What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed for nearly a week and loved it.
Sue and Gary are very hospitable people, they can't do enough to help. Being a very dog-friendly place, set in fantastic scenery, we relaxed very quickly. On arrival, a few essentials such as milk, Tea and coffee plus a bottle of wine and some welsh cakes, all very much appreciated after a long drive. There are laundry facilities and a second freezer in an outbuilding at the cottage but you should let Sue know if you want to use the washing machine as she has to divert the water to the building. The cottage itself is made of stone and has been converted very well. It is in an area of "dark Skies", on clear nights the stars were magnificent. There are plenty of walking trails which you can follow. We were able to use the shop and takeaway facility of the Forest Holidays campsite down the track from the cottage. The campsite is a totally separate entity to the cottage but they were very pleasant and helpful. We had no telephone signal at the cottage but the owners have installed wi-fi which we found useful, we could use some whats -app saved numbers. I am not too tech savvy so other people might be able to do more. Beddgerert itself is very small with some eating places; we went to the local pub, the Saracens Head. The meal was fine but they stopped serving food at about 730pm for some reason. On the way to Snowdonia; about a 30-minute drive from the cottage, the sat nav took us through the village, a pleasant ride with some really good scenery. I would suggest keeping the car topped up with fuel. As filling stations are rather few and far between we tended to use the Tesco store in Porthmadog for shopping and fuel. Caernarfon is in the opposite direction to Beddgelert and about the same distance as Porthmadog, it has all the usual big town facilities, we just happen to use Porthmadog which is from where the Heritage trains left. The cottage is also not very far from Criccieth which has some good beaches and a castle. We really enjoyed the stay and are considering returning next year.

The remote location is stunning and certainly the best thing about this cottage.
The owners seem very friendly - we met them both shortly. Overall a very good stay. Cleaning was very good in all rooms, but a bit below expectations in the kitchen. The dining table cover was dirty in various places, and the handles of some of the cabinets felt greasy. We had to rewash some of the dishes and pots, and there was no proper sponge available for doing so. There was also some pet hair on the stacked table set, on the unseen tables. In covid times, given the 'extra time' and attention allegedly given to cleaning, one expects all parts of the house to be spotless. The other parts of the house were all very clean, no complaints there. There was overall certainly enough room for us, but the pictures online are taken with a wide angle and in fact they are smaller than one is led to expect. The garden was fantastic, with amazing views over mountains, sea, and sunsets. The garden furniture was adequate, with a table for eating and chairs for lounging or reading. Bedding could be improved: the mattress felt old and a bit sunk, and the duvet and cover are cheap synthetic material that made us sweat every night. Bathroom was spotless and there was always warm water, which was a treat after wonderful hikes. Overall a very good stay, with some room for improvement as indicated. We can recommend this place, especially for the magical remote location and proximity to very good walks in the fascinating Rhinogydd/Rhinogs. The village of Llanbedr is 12 minute drive away (narrow road!) and the beach just a few minutes furhter.

The location is absolutely breath-taking.
It's about 3 miles along a single track road once you leave the main road, as you get more remote, so does the phone and 3/4/5G signal (honestly - this is not a bad thing!). The owners are great and very helpful making us very welcome. The property was clean and had all the amenities we needed for our stay. Itâs remote but it was refreshing to be away from everything and surrounded by mountains. No issues with the TV reception on the free-sat. Some mention the shower isn't very powerful - don't panic... it does the job perfectly! Some mention cleanliness, we didn't have any issues. Remember it is an old property and you'll find the odd cobweb etc. It's a 2 hour walk to the nearest pub (The Victoria Inn). The food there is excellent as was the 2 hour walk back. There is no Wi-Fi at the property and as already mentioned the phone signal is hit and miss. If you are looking for a digital de-tox... look no further! We would definitely stay here again. One issue which has been mentioned by others is the lintel over the lounge door which is a little low - if you are over 5'10" make sure you duck when leaving the lounge!

The house had everything we needed, and more !
! The living room was comfortable and cosy which is just what you need after climbing a mountain !! The bed was also very comfortable and the bedrooms had plenty of storage. Both bathrooms had great showers. The courtyard is small at the rear but there are benches and tables in the front garden which is a little sun trap. I thought the little extras provided were a sweet touch, a pack of Welsh cakes (my fave) tea, coffee and sugar provided and also a little cleaning pack containing dishwasher tabs, clean cloths , throws for the sofas so dogs could be on there etc. This was very thoughtful. All in all our stay was perfect and turtwig cottage is a great base camp to explore North Wales, we visited Conway Bay, Rhyl, Bangor, Anglesey, Llandudno , Betws-y-coed, and of course Mount Snowdon. Will definitely be visiting again soon :)

The owners were fantastic and couldnât have helped us more.
The property is very remote and our delivery didnât make it, so the owner gave us food and drink to be getting on with and toys for our little boy to play with too! They were so friendly and helpful. The property is set in the most beautiful surroundings and we couldnât fault the location. The beds were comfy and the towels were lovely and soft. We were left a lovely bottle of wine and juice for our boy on arrival, which was a lovely touch. There were enough plates/utensils etc and it was easy to cook in the house. The views were fabulous and we loved the proximity to the beach. However, we felt the property was overpriced. Whilst it was lovely and we had a great time, for the amount we paid, we expected a little more luxury. The boiler was very noisy and kept us awake and the hot water was intermittent.
