What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Potter - Verified booking
A Disappointing stay We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years. Some have been a delight, others it takes a little time to warm to and some just remain hard work and unrelaxing. Sadly Church Cottage was not for us and fell into the last category. We found the low ceilings and even lower door frames and numerous steps or lintels into the rooms difficult and spent the week trying not to bang our heads or trip over, despite both being well under 6ft. The house booklet recommends anyone over 5ft 6 to mind their head. Although mentioned in the description, the narrow, steep staircases were worse than we expected, especially the offshoot one which twists steeply round and is the only access to the first floor twin bedded room and, inconveniently, the bathroom. Other interesting quirks we experienced were the church bells opposite the cottage which chimed on the hour and every quarter hour, day and night and a noisy cockerel from the early hours. I recommend bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper and don’t enjoy these sounds. We enjoyed the pretty courtyard garden and the dayroom which overlooks it and luckily could spend time in this part of the property as the weather was good. In comparison, we found the rooms in the older part of the cottage lacked any kind of aspect and were quite dark so didn’t get much use. The Suffolk coast and countryside continues to charm us but this was a disappointing stay and we will not be returning to Church Cottage.

The property has been updated and very surprised you are using old pictures/descriptions - all lovely additions to the property. New bifolds into the garden, new furnishings and an addition of a breakfast bar into the kitchen area. Also we were glad we didn’t have our 6ft 5” son with us as were unaware of low ceilings/doorways. It does mention in info book in the house but not on your website. Also think 9am for departure time is very early and 10am would be more reasonable. We were very disappointed with your office response when we reported a seagull had got trapped between the garden wall and next door, the only access to the bird would have been through Church Cottage and we had nothing to get the bird out with. It was on our last day and to my knowledge nothing was done about it. The neighbour was aware however he didn’t have access to Church Cottage/garden which is why I informed you to hopefully sort something out/get animal welfare people in, this was suggested for me to do however I am not local to the area and would have expected you to sort out. Also took ages to get through on the phone to you.

This cottage is in a nice and quiet location and Wangford has a nice pub and useful village store. It is not far to drive to the coast. The house itself was a disappointment. The front door lock was jammed so at first we thought we couldn't get access but then found the back door and used that. There was a serious moth infestation, with moths on the bedroom walls, on the carpets and in the bedding - not nice at all, The straight stairs up to the main bedrooms are steep and this is acknowledged in the description on the website but it does not make it clear that the route to the bathroom requires negotiating a narrow steep curved set of stairs, not easy to use especially at night. This house is only suitable for young people and not for middle aged/elderly or young children and we would never use it again

Cottage location is ideal for exploring the Suffolk countryside. Downstairs is charming maintaining many old features. Plenty of seating and 2 TV's. Although mentioned in the description as not suitable for those with poor mobility, the stairs are extremely steep and access to twin room is via a narrow curved off shoot. A number of door ways are low so care is required if you are more than 5'6" tall. As the name suggests it is across the road from the Church and it's clock. Angel pub is welcoming and serves good food.

Loved staying here, felt like home from the moment we stepped in. Everything worked and the beds and comfy sofas were great. Two bathrooms was a big plus as well as a walk-in shower. Easy to get into Southwold by car, bus, cycle or walk and handily placed for getting around Suffolk generally. The village store is well stocked and open 7 days a week. Didn’t eat in the pub so can't comment on that although we did get a pizza takeaway for the Plough Inn a mile up the A12 and it was really tasty.
