What our customers say about their holidays
Linda - Verified booking
The property itself has all you need for self catering holiday.
If you like a hard mattress then the beds are fine but myself & sister take our own thick bed toppers to help make the mattress more comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment so meals can be prepared & cooked. The main downfalls which we encountered last year & this year also is there is no lighting in the car park which is just a rough earth surface & is pitch dark in the evening when coming back from a night out & no lighting in the area where Drakes cottage along with all the others in that complex are, which are set out in a quadrangle around a grassed patch in front of the cottages, the lights on the cottages occupied by owners & holiday makers are the only available outside lights on the cottages so you can see your way back to your holiday home & only if the people in them leave the light on ( most donât) & they are on timers.. we asked the owner could he do the timer to go off at 12pm which he did as he was in the island at the time. Holiday makers donât have access to the timer or Lx outside lights, I recommend taking a good torch. Also the smell that smells like rotten eggs permeates the area & itâs vile, windows had to be kept shut both times we were there in September last year & this. Some say itâs the pond causing the smell which does appear more strongly when youâre near the pond and the pond is near the cottages. Also evidently there is a sewage plant adjacent to the car park and the cottages, some think it comes from there, tbh you canât fully tell where it comes from is vile and very offputting. After experiencing it two years running. I donât know if myself and my sister would go back again I really couldnât stand it. It made me gag and heave. Other than that the cottage is very nice apart from the beds being too firm and that awful smell thatâs constantly there.

I stayed here for a few days and immediately wished I'd booked for longer.
The cottage is beautiful. I loved the layout and the decoration was very welcoming to make one feel 'at home'. We had absolutely everything we needed within the cottage and it was easy to find. The welcome pack of information was very helpful - we went to the cafe recommended for breakfast with the best coffee and weren't disappointed! They also advertised the local Indian restaurant which we were so pleased with. One staff member in particular took a shine to our baby girl which made the experience so lovely with fantastic customer service throughout and gorgeous food. The cottage is in a great location with just a short walk down hill to the beach and pool type area. We loved that it was more quiet where we were with the option to walk a little bit further to the busier area of the beach. Ventnor is a great place to stay - we thoroughly enjoyed exploring and will be back again so explore more and hope the cottage is available for us to stay in when we do! Suzanne the owner, was very easy to get in touch with and was so helpful letting us know an event going on and the parking situation. Thank you so much for a lovely and regrettably short stay in your lovely cottage. We felt so welcome and relaxed and enjoyed the garden area in the sun, it was so peaceful. Added bonus of having netflix and prime available for settling down in the evening with a glass of wine! Thank you again for a wonderful experience

I cannot recommend this property strongly enough.
It is very central in Ventnor with supermarkets. chemists and pubs literally. 2 minutesâ walk away. 5 more minutes takes you along Pier street to the breathtaking spectacle overlooking Ventnor Bay and the unbroken horizon of the Channel . I visited in early January and the property couldnât have been cosier. The gas central heating was quick and efficient, It is controlled with a portable device so you can start it off in the morning from your bed. Very handy! Thereâs also a very efficient electric log effect fire in the lounge. To the rear there is access to a charming area of decking with nice views of the Church and Ventnorâs subtropical palms . In January it felt a little like Madeira! Out of season thereâs loads of free parking 5 minutes away on Park Avenue. I also commend the owner whom i contacted when I managed to confuse the heating controller. She was very patient with me and tried to solve it for me but then asked a handyman to pay a visit. He was there in minutes and was polite and helpful and didnât point out it was all my fault! So if you want a central well-equipped home in Ventnor, 1 Tulse Hill is the place to be! Fantastic! I forgot to mention the great wi-fi, comfy beds, en-suite bathroom, quiet neighbours and two loos!

We had a fantastic stay here.
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The views are amazing and great for birdwatchers. We saw/heard about 15 species from the back garden and would probably be great for winter birdwatching too as this is a wetland area. You have a completely separate raised section of the family's larger garden and apart from their older son occasionally riding his bike we never saw anyone and there was virtually no noise from the other properties. The road at the front is barely noticeable in the back garden and quietens right down at night. The property is just steps away from The Solent across the road where you can walk along the sea wall into pretty Yarmouth. There are lots of footpaths near the property and we did a walk that runs parallel at a distance from the property around the woods. This leads you to the edge of Yarmouth and the lovely Off The Rails cafe and then along the estuary to the Red Lion at Freshwater. We also found the dinosaur footprint casts at Hanover Point. We would love to come back again to this area and the property.

Windy Ridge is a perfect home away from home and an ideal location.
Yarmouth itself is only a 15 minute walk from the house and is a beautiful place. It was our second time staying in Yarmouth, we enjoyed it so much last year that we booked for this year while still there! The Wheatsheaf is a wonderful pub and we ate there 3 times. The food is excellent, service very good, friendly staff and also has a nice outdoor space. Gossips Cafe is also definitely worth a visit, good food and a beautiful view. Inez was an excellent host, she came to greet us on our arrival day to let us know she was on hand, she came to make sure we'd had a good stay on the day we left and was available to answer any questions during the week. The road is busy and if you're in the in the upstairs bedroom there is quite a bit of traffic noise. However, the gorgeous view more than makes up for it and wouldn't stop us booking again. Lovely little garden area at the back too, also with a stunning view. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
