What our customers say about their holidays

The Windows apartment; absolutely blew us away!
This apartment is truly first class. The entrance hall was perfect and very welcoming; so handy following a day out; we utilised the very useful coat hooks and radiators to dry our wet coats, scarves and gloves following rainy days in the beautiful surroundings. Up the stairs and into the gorgeous naturally lit open planned living area; the photos really don't do it justice. You really appreciate why the apartment is called Windows. The huge windows flood the entire space with natural light and beautiful Lakeland views (gorgeous views of the fells); if you haven't visited the lakes before; Lakeland views doesn't always mean views of lakes; it encompasses the entire lake district vista of fells, countryside and sometimes lakes. We were suitably impressed with the décor and facilities on offer; both bedrooms were en-suite and of decent size; we were particularly impressed with the size of the master bedroom and great use of space in the second bedroom to allow for twin beds. The kitchen was well equipped and we thought that the cleaning pack was a nice touch too. Additionally, we felt that the storage cupboard at the top of the stairs was a great use of space for the cleaning appliances. Although we weren't in the lakes for the tv; we felt that the number of tv's in the apartment would certainly keep a family entertained (easy to use Freeview and no problems accessing any channels) in addition to the games console and we thought it was an excellent choice to include a digital radio (we stay in many holiday cottages and this is sometimes overlooked). The apartment is located in a great position; with the handy car parking spaces and on one of the main routes into Ambleside; yes you do get a bit of traffic noise; but this should not put you off staying here; it is comparable with staying in the town centre on one main roads. Only a 5 minute stroll into the centre of Ambleside which is a bonus. To use a cliché, we will certainly be returning to Windows in the near future, we cannot wait to visit this apartment again and feel that it will be our go to holiday stop in Ambleside (we have stayed in other properties in the area previously and this one wins hands down).

This is a first for us we have always been very satisfied with our previous bookings with sykes, however on this occasion, we were dissatisfied with the misleading description of the property.
The location very good but the property would not be our first choice of booking due to having a young dog who is still in training, there was no mention of stairs & upstairs bedrooms, leather furniture is not practical with a young dog and the enclosed patio was misleading as it gives the impression that it's behind or adjacent to the property & it is not, the property photos does not reflect the actual cottage we were staying in, in fact the photos appear to be of the next door property which is attached to another 3 cottages, there is also a request on the back of the main door no dogs allowed in the bedrooms but it is open plan & no provision for the dog to NOT go upstairs ,( i.e stair gate ) we had to block the stairway with chairs to avoid him following us into the bedrooms which may have caused some disturbance for neighbours as he is only 1 year old and has a loud voice. Some of the kitchenware was not to the usual standard of previous sykes bookings, acceptable, however previously we overpacked, in this case we underpacked. We do not normally complete your customers surveys as our previous bookings have always been satisfactory, but we felt it necessary to voice our opinion on this property, we have to stress the property itself would be ideal for a couple however our booking priorities are for our dog which means back yard/garden enclosed area where he can have toilet breaks without having to put a leader on him and walking him outside late at night and early morning, we believed the patio would give us this provision, the stairs are a no go as its very impractical for a young dog, no means to stop him adventuring upstairs, it was very difficult trying to keep him down on the first couple of nights, it was a lovely cottage but we felt a little mislead and disappointed Previous skyes bookings have fulfilled our expectations but on this occasion, unfortunately we didn't feel we could relax as much as we had hoped

I stayed at the property with my husband and small dog.
The property was perfectly situated to get around the Lake District and it had a beautiful country view. Although the property had two bedrooms it was very compact I would say that it is not suitable for four adults, maybe two adults and two children. The sofa wasnât very comfortable and there was only one other armchair so if you were having an evening in there would be three people squashed on the sofa and one on the chair. The TV was small and the remote control had lost the battery cover so you had to hold the batteries in when you wanted to change channels. There were a couple of issues the shower worked for the first morning but then ran cold this was reported but didnât get fixed we had to report it again after which it was rectified. The other problems were that the extractor fan over the cooker wasnât working the on off switch was completely missing this was reported but never fixed. The radiator in the downstairs bathroom didnât work, this was reported but never fixed. The thermostat on the radiator in the upstairs toilet didnât switch the radiator off and it remained on full blast the toilet was like a sauna, this was reported it was turned off when the shower was fixed but it only lasted for one day and the rest of our stay blasted out at full blast and couldnât be switched off. There was an area on the kitchen work surface that the Formica had blown and the mdf underneath was visible. The work surface needs to be replaced. This cottage was very pretty but is in need of some repairs and refurbishment. If you have a dog there isnât an enclosed space to let them out for a wee every time your dog needs to go out you have to put it on its lead and take it out.

Blackthorn Copse is without a doubt the nicest of any accomodation we have stayed in, the lodge is beautiful and sparkling clean.
The park is very quiet with no noise or light pollution, if you're lucky enough to have a clear night the stars are amazing. Plenty to do in the surrounding area, take a ride on the steam train or a trip up the lake on the steam boat, hire paddle boards or kyaks and of course plenty of walks. The lodge was beautiful with lots of space, the bedrooms are large and both have en-suite showers. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. The small touches like coffee pods, tea bags, sugar, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, milk, dishwasher tablets and bin bags are all things that you might not think are important but they are and it was a lovely surprise to fine a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge! The little things like that are the things that make the difference. Unfortunately the pub was closed while we were there but there are plenty of other places to go. The only small thing I would suggest is putting a gate on the outside space. It's fine for adults but if you have small children or dogs they could easily get out and with the river being literally meters away it could be dangerous, apart from that our stay was very enjoyable and I would definitely not hesitate to book this again.

We have just come back from a 2 night stay in Windows.
On the whole it has the potential to be a lovely apartment but we felt it let itself down on a few issues. The 'storeroom' was a real mess. Considering it is for use by residents if you want to use the washing machine etc., it was dirty and disorganised. The outside areas, ie. the entrance porch and the balcony were shabby, and should have been at least swept. The exterior could do with a lick of paint, too. There were two dedicated parking spots for Windows residents, according to the guest info and the notice on the wall, but someone else was using one of them, we think from the accommodation next door. We think a stair rail/bannister would be beneficial for the first staircase. We thought the step down from the twin room should be highlighted in some way, perhaps some yellow tape on the edge. The guest info should be rationalised and updated. We have used Skyes Cottages and similar for years, so we have lots to compare it with, and this is the first time we have felt compelled to comment. Finally, we knew it was on a busy road, but we didn't expect it to be quite so noisy. Another layer of glazing would make a big difference. Overall, we don't think it was value for money.
