What our customers say about their holidays

It was a wonderful little cottage.
It's not the biggest, but it's very cozy and has everything you need. I've saved it for future visits. Perfect for Bude (25mins) and surrounding area, whilst Padstow area also easily accessible (45-50mins). Camelford a short drive for the Co-Op there, large brand supermarkets a short drive also in Launceston and Bude etc. Note, the Premier shop listed on the website and in the cottage info folder appears to have shut down - clarification on this would be useful for future guests. Highly recommend the Preston Gate Inn near Bude - wonderful service and excellent food. Brendan Arms is also nice in Bude. Approx £80-90 for two adult-size meals and one child meal, plus drinks and desserts. Improvements would be the shower - I expect low water pressure in general due to the rural location, as expected, but perhaps a shower pump to get this raised a little. Fine for myself, but my pre-teen daughter struggled to wash her hair. Broadband was great in most of the cottage and a decent speed given the rural location, which was brilliant for the evenings when I streamed the various apps using the smart TV (also hooking up to my laptop to watch the football on Sky). The master bedroom had a weak connection, but it was still more than fine. A little more additional space for clothes in the twin (kids) room would be helpful. Bin was full from previous guests on arrival, so hardly any room for our rubbish on leaving day. A lovely couple living opposite, who came over to check we were sorted on arrival.

A unique property in a breathtaking location! With seals bobbing in the ocean below, excellent views over to the old tin mines at Geevor and Botallack, and a beautiful sandy beach with nice surf just a 10 minute walk, this was an amazing place to stay. Beyond that, for those with an interest in maritime history (like me) being up close and personal with an active lighthouse is a very unique experience. On misty nights, it's like having your own slightly eerie - and predictable - laser light show (however, I was very glad that the old foghorn was thoroughly decomissioned, although the dispersion horns are still present on top of the foghorn building, and if you look carefully through the windows, the old machinery is still present). Diana, the housekeeper, was very discreet - never got in our way at all, other than to inform us upon arrival that there was a slight issue with the shower but a fix was coming (this was fixed while we were out one day, with our permission). The property is extremely clean and beautifully presented, with all of the facilities you would expect. You really don't need to bring any domestic supplies, as everything necessary is present.

The cottage was wonderfully clean, and it’s a gorgeous place in many ways. We will return but there are a few issues: I am not sure it was necessary to remove the pictures and cushions, so I wonder if you can rethink your policy on that? Whoever planned the kitchen did a really bad job. It looks very smart I agree, but that cutlery drawer is the stupidest thing ever. It’s a cottage for 4, yet they only gave a narrow dishwasher. There would have been room if there hadn’t been a silly narrow cupboard. And it’s false economy to buy cheap dishwashers hobs etc anyway - brands you’ve never heard of - this one didn’t get things clean. It was a cheap hob too and kept cutting out at odd times, so it wasn’t worth getting a repair man out.

Super location, very clean (thank you Diana), cosy and well appointed. Décor smart and in very good order / well maintained. Only two small points: bathroom sink very slow to drain and lots of woodlice in 'outer; toilet room' - appreciate difficult to eradicate in older buildings - and was pre-warned by Diana! It was thoughtful that Diana phoned us to check on preferences as to Bread and Wine for the welcoming hamper - this was a very nice thought and much appreciated. All in all, a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday -notwithstanding the storms and gales. We would definitely recommend Solebay and Rural Retreats and will most definitely consider booking another holday with them.

We have stayed here over 20 times during the past 14 years. Sadly I don't know whether we will be returning. The lack of WiFi is a real game changer for us especially as the phone signal is so poor down at the Lighthouse. We already pay a premium for staying as such a unique location and now with prices rising all the time, I am disappointed in Trinity House by withdrawing the WiFi from the Cottage. The Cottage itself is beautiful and kept in a great condition by your hardworking housekeeper Di. Come on Trinity House - think of your customers and restore WiFi to this beautiful property.
