What our customers say about their holidays

Simply, this is a beautiful property.
Finished to a very high standard. With a spectacular view outside in a quiet a peaceful area. The surroundings really are quite lovely. The bedrooms, beds, linens and towels are all excellent quality. The carpeting in the hallways and bedrooms was lush. Everything (almost) is comfortable and the hosts should be commended for presenting such a genuinely great building to stay in. Bathrooms (3 toilets not the advertised 2) and showers were really great. Well lit and furnished. Water pressure was high and enjoyable. The WiFi worked great throughout. The heating was top notch. The television while a little on the small size for the living room was a smart TV so streaming services were available. The kitchen was very well equipped, enough to make any sort of meal for even a large group as there are settings for many. Though could use a whisk and some larger drinking glasses. Cooking in it was a pleasure. An instant boil tap means no kettle in sight, it was a great addition. We did have some gripes however, but will point out that this could just be personal preferences but felt necessary to mention... The property is right next to another building. Like almost attached. The pictures do a good job of not showing that. You share a driveway and a car port. We did see the inhabitants several times and they did seem to be peeking once or twice. The building is surrounded by active security cameras, which is great for security but can also give you a slightly uneasy feeling that you're being checked in on by the owners. Inside there are quite a lot of signs and labels telling you not to do something. Every bedroom has a big door to the outside. These all have labels on saying not to open unless it's an emergency. 2 of the rooms have no windows other than this big glass door so it seems a bit restricting. Also one in the living room has that same label. Ugly sheets ruin the look of the kitchen detailing rules to follow and procedures for waste disposal. These things combined to take down the comfort level. Made it seem like you were being watched. Also the giant, very comfy sofa is a recliner. But the controls have been taped up and the power cables removed thus removing that function which is an odd choice. Could also use some pillows.

Rospletha Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Cornwall and probably the UK.
We had an amazing few days exploring the local area, with the Minack theatre, the coves and the coastal path right on our doorstep! Simply stunning! Sadly, the first few days of our week were spoiled by the unclean state of the kitchen when we arrived. I had to put all the plates, cutlery and utensils in the dishwasher, wash the tiles, the shelves, the glasses. There was even a full cup of coffee left in the microwave, with mould on it. There were cobwebs in lots of places (stressed me as I am not a fan of spiders) and we werenât able to open the French doors onto the patio until the owner âforcedâ them open later, which we had not dared to do. The hinges were just very rusty, due to the sea air I guess. We were also put off by the fact that the owners were staying in their wooden chalet in the garden, right across the cottageâs patio, so sitting outside didnât feel private at all. This chalet is neither mentioned in the cottage description, nor showing on any of the photos for the cottage on Sykes. Also, there IS a huge field at the back of the house, with sea views, but it is also the overflow car park for the Minack theatre, so every afternoon, we had hundreds of cars/vans and people just 100 meters or so from our rental. Again, something which is not mentioned in the description. The owners of the cottage / chalet had visitors coming across âourâ garden on two occasionsâ¦this was not acceptable. On the first night, we arrived quite late because of heavy holiday traffic. When I saw the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen (namely dirty plates and cutlery draw), I went over to the chalet to mention this to the owner (who had just welcomed us and said to come and see him if there were any problems). I thought theyâd like to let their cleaning company knowâ¦well, I was not received well at all! I wonât go into the details as we did receive apologies the next morning but I was left shaken. Rospletha is an amazing place, but, as a family, we all felt the same: Rosphetha Cottage needs more cleaning, TLC and private garden space. Also, I would not have chosen this cottage if Iâd known that we would be sharing the garden with its owners.

The property is lovely, comfortable and very well equipped (though it could do with a BBQ and a freezer).
We really appreciated the speed with which the local Lyme Bay holidays team addressed the issues with the en suite door and the shower in the main bathroom (wobbly loo seats remained outstanding). The only downsides from our perspective was the location and the levels on the outside space. I know this is down to the lay of the land so can't be helped, but the steps in/out of the property and around the garden are huge and the listing really should state this so that customers know it's not very elderly or child friendly before they book. The fact that there is no pavement on the road should also be mentioned as this makes walking to and from the town a health and safety risk for young and old as road users are not very pedestrian friendly! The listing also states that itâs ~0.5 m from shops, which is likely true BUT it doesn't mention that the walk to and from those shops involves an extremely steep hill, so again if your party contains young or old members be prepared to be driving back & forth into town to drop off or pick up as walking up the hill is likely not an option! Finally, again I know there is nothing you can do about this but the house is very close to a noisy road, and the noise is very invasive if you're not used to living by a road. The master bedroom faces the road and its very noisy with the window open when the traffic starts from 6am so again I think this is something potential customers need to know. In summary - it is a lovely property, well laid out, decorated and equipped but on balance I would only recommend for fit or able adults only, not for older customers or families with small children.

Yew Tree cottage is an absolutely stunning cottage on a lovely little hamlet in the north lakes.
The cottage is furnished to a high standard and facilities provided are fantastic. The beds are super comfy and it is so quiet in the village that you get such a good nights sleep. Our only criticism would be that the smoke alarms in the kitchen/dining area are so sensitive that they go off even when using the toaster- if this could be addressed, that would definitely be an improvement. The garden is so special and has been carefully designed to allow you to relax and enjoy being amongst the wildlife. You definitely need a car in order to stay at this property as there is no public transport nearby- the nearest pub being in the next village at Great Strickland. With a car however, it is ideally located to be able to visit lots of lovely towns such as Keswick, Grasmere, Penrith, Ambleside and other attractions such as Lowther Castle, the Jersey Ice Cream Farm, and Askham Hall. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing time in the north lakes. The hosts do a brilliant job at making your stay extremely comfortable and offer those added touches to make it even more special - including a gorgeous bunch of wild flowers from the garden and delicious homemade blueberry muffins - it is a very special place to stay.

We hadn't realised that the adjacent Minack Theatre is now so popular, and it was challenging that quite often it was almost impossible to get out of the bungalow or return because of the sheer volume of traffic coming down the very narrow lane.
The bungalow is situated right next to the Minack overflow carpark, which wasn't made clear in the description. The bungalow is an illogical construction; it must have been extended several times. It was well equipped - we had everything we needed, but has a general air of being unloved and rather neglected. Lots of spiders. The seats of the sofas have sagged appreciably. Information about recycling, rubbish disposal and what is available in the area would have been useful. We met the owner, and understood the housekeeper was ill, which might answer some of the issues we have mentioned. It was disconcerting not to have a local contact number in case of emergency. Ringing Sykes Cottages is not a good option, and we were fortunate not to need to contact anyone urgently. The views from the bungalow are magnificent and we were lucky to have good weather and some amazing sunrises and sunsets. It was very kind of the owner to come down from London to sort out the bungalow, and to get us some milk and flowers as a welcome for us.
