What our customers say about their holidays
Andrea - Verified booking
We spent a wonderful weekend at the farmhouse celebrating a big birthday with family and friends.
The house is spectacular; it has clearly been renovated using the highest quality materials whilst retaining every bit of original character. It spraws over three floors and each room has been carefully decorated in keeping with the age of the property, apart from the bathrooms which are contemporary and newly installed. The kitchen is lovely: huge, and equipped with everything you might need for a holiday with a large group. The kitchen and dining room became the centre of our large group for meals, games, and talking late into the night. There is a single bedroom on the ground floor with easy access to a bathroom which would suit an infirm person - just a single step up and down between the two rooms - but the house is not otherwise suitable for anyone with reduced mobility as the two staircases are narrow and steep, as expected in a house this old. The garden was where we spent much of our days: playing rounders and on the large open grass area or just lying on the lawn to sunbathe and chat. There are nice benches on the patio which seat plenty of bottoms, a couple of huge old trees to lie under, and a pond which is home to a heron and lots of waterfowl. It is so peaceful, with no other properties around. Some of us began the day with a cup of coffee in the small adjacent barn which has one side entirely open so we could watch the heron fly in with a fish in its beak and listen to the birds, which is the only sound you can hear. There's plenty of parking. At one point we had eight cars parked comfortably when friends visited for the day. I wouldn't want to be the person who has to clean such a large, rambling property, but it was immaculate throughout. Big thanks to whoever takes on that task! We found that the simplest way to locate the farmhouse was to input only the postcode into our satnav as it's one of the only properties in the entire postcode. The satnav took us straight to the farmhouse. The owner Mick was so helpful and welcoming, and was available at all times, including prior to our stay, via phone and WhatsApp to answer queries. We would all recommend this property to anyone. It's wonderful.

We had a lovely week and the cottage was lovely.
With young children I enjoyed the no clutter feel and fact everything was off the ground - easy to find lost toys. Despite having booked for 5, I was disappointed that only 4 sets of towels were left out - the hand towels were too small to use for the baby. However the real disappointment of the holiday was the kitchen. There were only 3 dinner plates, which for a booking of 4/ 5 was insufficient. The kitchen was home to 13 egg cups and 10 wine glasses, yet no corkscrew. The pans had seen better days and the oven trays felt/ were cheap ( I was disappointed there was nothing like a pyrex dish for a pasta bake, but appreciate this one may be down to personal cooking preference). The serving utensils were so cheap they almost folded in half holding a spoonful of veg. Additionally the knives were limited - only 2 small veg knives - nothing suitable for cutting bread. I don't think it would cost the earth to provide a bottle of washing up liquid either. ( As it happens we were in our camper van so had our own crockery we could use but most wouldn't). I would recommend but manage people's expectations.

The property is absolutely beautiful!
The photos really do not do it justice, It is a lot larger than the photos show and all of the furnishings are immaculate. We stayed as a mixed age group from age 1 to 70 for my 40th birthday and it was suitable for all. The children loved the space and the outdoor areas and we loved the open fires and expansive dining room! The kitchen literally has everything you could want including lots of fridge space, mixers and blenders, children's cups/plates, you name it, it was there! It was minus 5 outside when we stayed here but the entire house was warm and cosy. There is a smart TV in the front room which we could get you tube and netflix on and a selection of board games / cards too! I would 100% recommend this property for a large family group. Thank you so much to the owners for making such a wonderful space for a home from home stay!

The cottage was an absolute dream to stay in, it was so nice to get off of the roundabout of city life and experience total peace and quiet and not a street light in sight or the sound of any cars.
Although we didnât see them very often the owners were helpful if you needed them. The cottage was very well equipped and tea coffee etc was provided. Tea towels washing up liquid and cloths were also provided there was also good quality towels supplied. Basic condiments were on hand to use salt pepper vinegar etc although Iâm not sure if the owners supplied them or they were left by other visitors to the cottage. There was no tv in the cottage which we was not too bothered about but it would of been nice to have the choice. There is no local shops i think the nearest one was about 6 miles away so if you intend to cook make sure you come armed with your supplies. Our dog loved the freedom of the walks and running about in the fields which the owners are happy for you to explore. We would definitely return to salters again.

EXCELLENT PEAK DISTRICT ACCOMMODATION Loose Hill Lea is ideally located for enjoying the very best area of The Peak District being only a few miles from both Hope and Castleton.
The house itself is situated in a very peaceful location at the end of a private road in the delightful hamlet of Shatton just two miles from Hathersage. The property is extremely well equipped, in particular, the kitchen where there is everything you need for self catering. Any instructions you need are readily to hand and couldnât be clearer - in fact the best we have seen whilst renting many other properties over numerous years. The owner was very helpful when we contacted him. We used the CH first thing in the morning and during some evenings and it is not only efficient but also heats up the house exceptionally quickly. We love this area for the fantastic walking and will have no hesitation in re-booking Loose Hill Lea on our next visit to The Peak District. Highly recommended.
