What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Burton - Verified booking
The lodge itself was great. Well-equipped, clean, tidy, and comfortable. Nice to have nice quality glasses and cups/mugs in the kitchen where there`s kettle toaster microwave dishwasher and fridge-freezer (smallish freezer but big enough for the important things like a bag of ice cubes and ice trays). 2 bedrooms, one with a regular size double bed and one with 2 singles. Plenty of towels provided (good quality ones too). Very comfy duvets. Excellent wifi strong enough to stream to the smart tv and run a tablet and a laptop at the same time. Nice clean bathroom, good shower. Site itself was quiet although I don`t know how busy it might be in full season. The surface of the road around the site is a challenge due to some major potholes and craters, and really vicious speed-humps - for which of course the owner of this particular lodge isn`t responsible. Very useful airport-style luggage trolleys available in the carparks were really helpful as you can`t drive up to the lodge itself. The only facility on site appears to be the laundry (which I couldn`t get to work!) so if you`re looking for a shop or a bar etc you`ll be disappointed. But if you don`t mind the absence of those it`s absolutely fine, and the garden areas are beautifully maintained. The village of Yarmouth is about a mile away where there`s bars and restaurants and a ferry terminal if you`re coming from Lymington on the mainland. You`ll find an Ordnance Survey map of the island in the lodge too. The acid test I suppose is whether we would stay there again - yes, we would.

We had a lovely time at Threshing Barn and the owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had gone for a metal detecting weekend which was around 30 minutes drive from the cottage so this was a great base and allowed us to spend the weekend with friends partaking in our favourite hobby whilst having the comfort of a soft bed, shower and toilet as opposed to the limited amenities of the campsite! I marked down slightly on cleanliness and comfort for 2 reasons. Firstly there were a few cobwebs in the ceiling, however as this is a former barn and in a very rural location this is to be expected. Second reason was that the windows do not open very far. We were lucky to have some amazing weather, but this did mean the house got a bit warm through the day, particularly upstairs. There was a fan available and we took this upstairs which provided some comfort but an open window would have provided a bit more of a comfortable night! Apart from those 2 very minor things, everything was perfect. As I said the owners were very friendly and we spent time talking to them both, the location is fantastic for evening strolls and walks with the dogs. There is an enclosed meadow with a stream that the boys loved. Finding the house was very easy and parking not a problem. Mobile signal is best with o2 apparently which is who we are with so we had no problems but apparently other networks may struggle. Wifi in the house is pretty good too. Thanks very much, we hope to visit again in the future!! Tom & Marie

Absolutely brilliant place to stay as a base to explore the south of the Cotswolds.
Peter met us and our 2 dogs on arrival and was very informative about the place, history and area and we met he's fabulous dog too. The place is huge and has everything you need. The games room was particulary great at night. I can understand the decor isn't to everyone's taste but we loved it and all the quirks, can see all the Cuban influences everywhere. The barn is on a farm and after seeing other reviews not happy with the surrounding tractors etc, I have to say "what did you expect?". There are vehicles and farm equipment around but it doesn't affect anything and just adds to the authenticity of the area. There is a bbq / pizza oven area across the road in some woodlands which was nice but we didn't use these facilties. Only thing to mention for others with dogs is that there is no secure garden area to let your dogs off, this didn't bother us though as we explored all day and only came back in the evening to relax and sleep. If you were travelling here with dogs with the intention of mostly staying in the barn I'd say maybe it isn't for you (mostly due to no secure garden) as it's quite secluded and although you could walk to the nearest pub it's a few miles away. (Fine with us, we drove to a different pub each night). But as a base to spend the day exploring and then coming back to later on its 10/10, highly recommend :D Would happily return with our dogs in the future.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and very clean with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.
There is also plenty of wildlife to watch. It is not the easiest place to find. Continue along Woodlands until you come to a left turn, turn left, continue to bottom of paved road and take left hand unpaved track, turn left at top of track through metal gates and the cottages are in front of you. The heating in the cottage is controlled by the owner and he is quite economical with it. You have to ask for the heating to be put on. Whilst I appreciate the reason for it, I did not like this aspect of my stay at all. The WIFI appears to have been sorted out. It dropped out occasionally but no major problems. There is a lot of equipment in the cottage, e.g. Sky TV, Bose sound system, DVD player and video recorder, sadly most of it does not work. This is mainly due to most of the remote controls having flat or no batteries. The Sky TV was not receiving a satellite signal so was useless. The only TV available was Freeview. There are instructions for the kitchen appliances but none in English. It is a case of trial and error. The outside area could do with a bit of TLC. Some proper garden furniture is required and the old plastic bench at the bottom of the stairs needs to go. The existing outside furniture was very dirty. We enjoyed our stay but would not return.

A very pleasant stay.
Peter the owner couldnât be more helpful. Very secluded and peaceful location. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever experienced in any hotel, airbnb or similar. Cooker took a little getting used to and the living room would have benefited from a wood burner or similar and not relying on the underfloor heating which as a guest you had no control over. The staircase would prove tricky for those with mobility issues, but itâs the only way to access the gameâs room and the second en-suite bedroom. The other bedroom is on the ground floor. Couldnât work out if the unpainted plaster walls were meant to be left like that, but the barn was clean if not having a not quite finished look about it. Overall would recommend. Certain areaâs did resemble a junk yard behind the second barn with old cars and trailers left abandoned. Overall would recommend for a peaceful stay.
