  We stayed in the Tunstall for four nights. Location good. Close to the Elvet bridge, city,restaurants Quiet at night, bed comfortable, nice and dark at night. We both slept well. Apartment warm. Kitchen worked well. Shower great. Well equipped. Internet didn’t work. Phone call to manager who said they would come round and fix it. They didn’t. They did give us the password to another apartments internet and that worked, but you had to be in the lounge. The modem box was out so we guessed this was not a fresh issue, just an issue that has not been addressed. 2 adults for 4 nights and only two toilet rolls !!The place costs gbp 210 a night. I’ve seen this same comment previously, so BYO toilet rolls. Same comment shampoo and body wash. Instructions on how to lock the door would help people from overseas who have not seen that type of locking mechanism before. The confirmation from booking dot com shows an extra charge of gbp 25 for cleaning but no one cleaned while we were there. It also shows an extra charge of gbp 25 for “service fee” I am not aware of any services that we received. The managers of the property send me an email about checking in, every day. Every day before checking in, every day after checking in and daily after checking out. It looks like a glitch in the system. Floor rug in lounge is stained and needs replacing. Extraction fan in the toilet would not turn off. Didn’t like the smell from the vanilla scented plug in air freshener. It was a lovely place with a lot of positives. But …too many negatives for the price (gbp 210 a night). In my opinion it did not represent good value for money.

  A return visit to this lovely clean, comfortable and we'll appointed apartment.

  A perfect base to explore Weardale and Teesdale. Greeted by the owner to show you around the apartment and general information about the village, very informative and useful. A generous welcome pack of victuals left for your enjoyment. The bed is very comfortable and I have come back home very rested and relaxed even after a busy week of activities. Wolsingham village is well appointed with shops, eateries and the people always speak and are friendly. Walking guides of circular walks starting in the village are available in the apartment. There is a range in distance and difficulty of the walk, to do. The two I have completed were delightful. This week I visited, High and Low Force Waterfalls, Lanchester Garden Centre then a Family circular walk around Wolsingham, Killhope Lead Mine Museum, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal (1 hour 10 mins away by car), Low Barnes Nature Reserve (saw a Kingfisher or two) and Escomb Anglo-Saxon Church, which is on a pilgrimage route for St. Bede. So much to see and do. This area is a hidden gem England. I will return.

  Please don't be deceived by the website photos.

  To say this was disappointingwould be an understatement. My partner left after one night, due to the following: The stairwell smelled absolutely disgusting. The flat was in need of a deep clean and the bathroom carpet was stained and showing signs of total wear. The windows are single glazed, really dated and these are totally dangerous. The sky lights in the bedroom were in a state especially the blinds and these were broken on one side, far too high to adjust which meant you were awoken by light very early. The windows overall are a health and safety hazard and in very poor disrepair and god forbid any children were there. The televison is like someting from noahs ark and covered in dust, relying on scart leads and if you turn the volume up to hear anyone actually speak the people living below bang on the ceiling it was horrendous. The oven has no markings at all and there was a scratty piece of paper to tell you how to adjust settings but not the temperature. My partner was really upset and said she was leaving as literally couldn't stay there.

  I really enjoyed my week away at the Old Queens Head in Wolsingham.

  The flat was perfect for my needs and was even better than I was expecting - the photos don't do it justice. The bedroom, in particular had a lovely high ceiling and made the room feel very light and airy. It was well stocked and Jackie really has thought of everything. Everything went smoothly from the moment I met Jackie to get the key, to the moment I left. I never had any trouble finding somewhere to park at the back of the flat. The neighbours were friendly too and offered useful suggestions as to places to visit. My only gripe (and it is the only one - and pretty small) was that the oven is missing the temperature markings/dial so it was difficult to work out the oven temperature. However a combination of an internet search and trial and error sorted it. The folder of useful info did contain instructions on using the oven but I couldn't find anything about the temperature markings/dial - apologies if I missed it. All in all a great holiday, in a really lovely part of the country.

  I had a fairly blissful week at the Old Queen's Head.

  As a pedestrian I explored my immediate locale and went further afield by bus. The fact that there are various bus companies operating in the area meant that my transport costs were more costly than ideal but not disastrous and not the fault of the holiday flat's owners. The bed was queen size, firm and comfy. The sofa, where I spent restful evenings gazing out at the scenic view of sheep and cattle grazing on a verdant hill, was also comfy and firm. The shower cubicle was a little cosy but great temperature and very powerful. The roof of the shower cubicle needs a bit of attention but this did not majorly affect my enjoyment of the flat. A few days into my stay a scaffolding platform was erected directly outside and there was some very mild and temporary noise. This was a little concerning and I would have liked to have been priorly informed.
