What our customers say about their holidays

Stayed at The Bothy as a women and her dog, wanting an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
Wow! Did this place deliver in spades. The cottage is amazing. Quirky. Packed with character. Very well equipped and immaculately clean. Mark and Jo are super hosts. Genuinely one of the nicest couples Iâve met. Whilst they live on site, I never saw them (except arrival and departure) but it was great to know they were there if needed. The scone and fresh eggs on arrival were very welcome too - thank you! Now locationâ¦. This cottage is on a hillside in heaven! The views from The Bothy are incredible but there are also so many walks straight from the door and a variety too! Whether you want 1 mile to 50 mile, riverside or moorland, the one thing you can be sure of, is the area has it all. I parked the car up on arrival and it didnât move again til I left. I walked a total of over 45 miles during the week and never did the same walk twice! Not only that but I reckon I didnât see more than a dozen people throughout the entire weeks walks!!! Having said that this has to be one of the friendliest places Iâve ever been. Every single person I met was absolutely lovely Nenthead (under a mile away) has a local shop and fabulous cafe (the Hive) and the mine is a great visit. Hopefully the local pub will reopen soon. Alston (3.8 miles) has a variety of shops with a couple of pubs/restaurants. Issac Tea Trail literally runs from The Bothy but honestly this whole area is a walkers paradise. For anyone whoâs thinking of bookingâ¦. Do it! You wonât be disappointed!!! I canât wait to return for New Year and this time Iâm taking dog and hubby!

The Bothy is an absolute gem, a comfortable place to come back to after a day out walking in the hills, a fabulous location and made to feel very welcome by Mark and Jo.
The eggs and scones were all appreciated, and it was lovely to enjoy breakfast hoping the red squirrel would visit the bird feeder (other than one day it was there everyday!). No matter the mixed weather, and other than one day's short trip into Alston, the car stayed parked, as the walks out were fantastic and in fact a reason I am already looking forward to coming back as there are still more to enjoy. For me a magical part of the stay was to be in the hills seeing and hearing the curlews, seeing curlew chicks on the ground, and providing memories of long ago holidays, lovely to see them again. The Bothy gave me the relaxing yet fun filled break I was hoping for, in a part of England I had not appreciated is truly magical, and somewhere I was made to feel truly welcome. Once again, thanks Mark and Jo and hope to be back again very soon!

When we stayed here there was a ladie underneath us, and omg did she have problems!
All she done was bang the doors all night long and we never got any sleep. We had enough so we left early and as we was packing our cars she thrown a pair of her knickers at us, and omg we was shocked. We did not feel it was safe as she clearly had issues. Tony and Susan offered another week end stay for free as a gesture of goodwill, which was so lovely of them. We have just came back from staying there again and had a peaceful chilled stay. Massive thank you to them. We loved it there and we will be going again well long as that unhindge women is not there again haaaa. Sorry I no she won't be lol but we will be. If you want to go anywhere with beautiful views walks and amazing I would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you again xx

The cottage was fantastic it was warm and cosy and so clean, the people were very friendly and even though they lived on the property were happy to leave you to your privacy or have a friendly chat if you wanted.
However the customer service and helpfulness shown by the sykes team was disgraceful, I had emailed 6 times, months before our holiday with a number of queries and they were ignored until I got one rather rude reply basically saying either go and don't have the things i queried (which i found out you had misinformed me about and the couple running the cottage said were never an issue anyway!!) or cancel and lose yr money! There was no sorry we have ignored you or how can we help correct this or even sorry you have concerns? Just a blunt either go or cancel no refund reply!! Needless to say we won't be booking through Sykes again and have advised others of this before they consider your site if at all.

What can I say about The Hayloft?
?? Absolutely brilliant!! The hospitality of the owners was 1st class. The cottage was always warm, very clean, Spacious & comfortable with utilities so u need for nothing The hot tub was fantastic until u get out then it's a quick run back to our home away from home ( well we would go in in February lol) Our boxer Georgie loved it here & settled into his new surroundings immediately ( normally he doesn't eat for a day on other holidays) & his new love now is a open fire! All this is surrounded by beautiful countryside & short drive to Penrith, Carlise, Keswick & Hexham of the places we visited We will definitely be booking again
