Cumbria isn't all rolling hills and remote peaks, and the county is dotted with lots of picturesque towns and villages. Penrith, for example, is one of the large towns, easily reached by rail or road, and bustling with activity. What our customers say about their holidays

If you are looking for total peace and relaxation Cherry Croft is ideal.

The property is tastefully finished to a high standard, and includes modern touches like electric sockets with USB ports, and smart TVs. Although there are neighbouring properties nearby you do not feel at all overlooked. We spent two weeks doing nothing but walking, sitting in the garden and, on rainy days, watching the tide going in and out across the Solway Firth. The RSPB Campfield Marsh is a couple of minutes walk away and well worth a visit. Although there are no local shops and the fridge/freezer is a little on the small size (especially if you have to feed two sons in their 20s!) ASDA will deliver groceries, so it wasn't too much of a problem. The owners are lovely - on hand if you need them, but not intrusive. There are a couple of little things we noticed - there are no tall glasses for lemonade / beer, and there were very few cleaning products - especially toilet cleaner or bleach. Having stayed for two weeks, I would have liked to do a thorough clean before leaving. Also, we were lucky enough to have some really sunny days, but in the evening the heat makes sitting in the armchair quite uncomfortable, so maybe a blind or curtain on the side window would be a good idea. Overall though, we had a fabulous stay and would highly recommend this property.

    The property was lovely.

Kitchen and living area very well appointed and comfortable. Double bed very comfy! We didn’t use the second room as there was only two of us. The little electric fire was a nice touch , created a nice ambience in the evening. The shower was fab. Water pressure excellent. Lovely view of the lake from outside seating. Couple of reasons we would probably not return to this particular property though. The driveway from Rayrigg road is ridiculously steep and I feel it should be highlighted in the description on the website. The main road is also exceptionally busy with constant traffic with points where there is no pavement. It is is also very dark at night so walking back from Bowness quite treacherous! The internet connection was very intermittent too making watching tv in the evening difficult to watch streaming services. It would also benefit from a slightly larger tv. A couple of other points. The bathroom door did not close properly and there was mention of a garden but we couldn’t find it! All in all though a lovely property if you are fit enough to climb the driveway and are not bothered by the internet issue and for us it was a little to far away from Bowness centre walking for us personally.

Linden Barn was the perfect family holiday retreat. The Barn was bright, fresh and comfortable. All the details has been thought of - a high quality welcome hamper, plenty of wood and paper for the log burner, comfortable beds and lots of space for the children including the lovely reading area on the landing. The large utility room was very handy for storing all the walking shoes and coats. The outside space was very inviting, if small, and there were some fresh herbs growing, which we used in cooking. In all, it was a cosy and welcome place to return to after a day's walking. The owners were on hand and very friendly and helpful the couple of times we met them, but left us to enjoy our privacy. The Barn has a fantastic situation, minutes off the M6 and accessible to the nearby Lake District as well as the Northern Yorkshire Dales. We enjoyed varied walks in both areas as well as some walks directly from the Barn itself. The village is delightful to walk around with many little streams, pretty cottages and a beautiful Church. We would highly recommend Linden Barn for a stay in this beautiful area.

This is both the best holiday accommodation and most dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in.

The property was beautifully appointed and had so many great dog friendly facilities. As owners of a large dog, we were delighted that the garden was properly secure (high fences) and spacious. There were also a selection of dog bowls, a hamper of dog towels and a hamper of dog blankets for the furniture, if you have a sofa dwelling dog. The kitchen was very well equipped, with excellent quality kitchen ware. A great bonus is the upstairs entertainment room, with a massive TV, XBox, DVDs,CDs, books and a computer desk with monitors. The beds were comfortable, the showers were large with good water pressure, the towels were soft and there were even slippers and robes. Having stayed out of season, we were glad it was nice and warm in the house. I can imagine, it would be lovely to sit out in the garden in the summer. It is also in a great location; Wigton, nearby has good facilities, Carlisle is only 20 minutes or so up the road, or head south for the Lakes, north for Hadrian’s Wall, or west for the coast.

The property was private and cozy even though it's on the site of a working family farm.

That was actually one of our favorite parts, it felt like we were part of the countryside/community for a couple days. And we loved saying hello to the dogs and alpacas/llamas. We visited on a chilly weekend, so definitely use the space heaters provided if you get cold easily. We only used the wood stove (on purpose) and though that heats the living area so well and was extremely cozy, it was a little chilly in the bedroom without the heater on. Again, we did that on purpose, but not all like that. Our hosts were lovely the couple times we saw them and they were super responsive to texts - for example when we needed more kindling or teabags. The surrounding countryside was gorgeous and the inn/restaurant just down the road (The Crossings Inn) was great and so close by. It's also in Hadrian's Wall country. We loved it.
