What our customers say about their holidays

  • Bryan - Verified booking

An hour after we arrived we experienced water coming through the kitchen ceiling (it was raining) and called the owner to report the situation.

He answered and said that he would be round the next morning to take a look. He did not arrive the next morning and we never received a call or text to say he was not coming. In fact he did not come round or contact us all week. We therefore had a kitchen bowl and towel on the kitchen floor all week collecting the water leak from the roof each time it rained. The cleanliness of the kitchen was disappointing. The dishwasher stank and we refused to use it on that basis. There was no spare dishwasher salt that we could use to try to rectify the problem. The cooker and oven had no labelling (temperature settings etc) which effectively rendered it useless. The crockery and cutlery was unclean and not of a standard we would have expected in a rental property so we washed items that we wanted to use. Some of the kitchen cupboards were full of junk. Island counter surface was dirty and having lent against it on the first morning had to change a jumper. All handles felt sticky and dirty to touch. Several lamps needed new bulbs which we did find and change. The toilet handle drips every time you flush it. The toilet brush was shocking. On our return home we sent the owner a photograph of the roof identifying a missing roof slate which was probably the cause of the leak. We also expressed our disappointment that he had not come round or had the courtesy to contact us to which he responded "Didn't want to disturb you as you seemed to want to keep yourself to yourself" We don't know how he came to this decision as we had contacted him immediately that the problem arose when we arrived. Overall our experience was a lot lower than we had expected. If asked if we would stay here again it would be a no but on a positive note the apartment was a great space but rough around the edges. We will choose yes to publishing our feedback. However it would be your decision to maybe see this property for yourself and make your decision as to what is acceptable for your website reputation.

The house was clean and comfy enough for the couple of nights we stayed there, the pictures are very accurate.

It's in an excellent location, a few mins from the lake, pubs, cafes and shops. It's also fantastic if you are climbing Snowdon. I do have a few observations/suggestions. The lockbox is loose on the wall under the window, it's very difficult to get the keys out and then also to close it afterwards. We struggled so much when we arrived I rang the emergency number ... but no one answered! Eventually we managed to get the keys but then had a struggle to lock the box. The key box is not in a great position. Also the door is very difficult to close with the key, it took two of use to try it for a few minutes before it locked. There is a very tiny step into the lounge, this needs to be highlighted with tape or something, all 6 of us tripped up into the lounge at some point, I hurt my foot and my arm trying to stop my fall. Asking us to sort out recycling is great, we liked that it was so strict, however asking us to take a full bin up very badly maintained steps to a gate that was very difficult to open is not great when we only booked this for 2 nights and had minimal rubbish/recycling. The steps at the back are dangerous, the gate is rusted. Some hand soap in the bathroom would have been appreciated, although I have since noted you mention not all your properties provide hand soap. A couple of hooks on all the doors (bedrooms and bathroom) would be helpful. It was a low cost option for us that did the trick, although I do hope the owner might fix the items I've mentioned. Many thanks. Sandy

We really enjoyed our week at Capel Mawr - it was well-equipped & spacious & in a great location for exploring north Wales.

The flat was spotlessly clean & the beds comfy, with possibly the best shower ever! Parking wasn't an issue as no one was in the downstairs property at the time. There was no sign of the raised decked seating area or summerhouse, so no outside space. Having the only toilet in the bathroom was inconvenient, but we knew to expect that. The 2 main issues for us were: The lack of washing machine (which could have easily been added to the huge kitchen, or put in the walk-in cupboard next to the bathroom). The total lack of storage in the main bedroom. There were no drawers at all. There was a shelf in the bedroom and a shelf in the room next door (dressing room?) as well as a few hangers, but no where to unpack clothes. There was LOADS of space to add some suitable furniture, so this was strange. My husband left all his stuff in his suitcase, & I piled things on a shelf & put socks in a casserole dish! We would also recommend hooks to hang coats, a rack for shoes, and more comprehensive information for guests, including details on bins/recycling. But we'd definitely stay at Capel Mawr again. It was perfect for our holiday with our 2 grown-up children - plenty of space for everyone to spread out. We also recommend the fish & chip shop around the corner, and the Garddfon Inn in Y Felinheli.

We had a reasonable stay over New Years.

Property was comfy enough, easy to find and well located. A few small points to note; The property has a feather sofa and a fair few feather cushions - which I feel may be worth noting on the listing. We had someone with allergies and this caused a rather intense reaction. Cushions you kind of expect and can easily move but I wouldn’t have booked had I known about the sofa. For a week long stay, it would be nice to have a couple of towels provided per person. One towel per person was a struggle, especially as there is no washing machine available. A washing machine would be ideal, especially in a known hiking area. Kitchen is well stocked but there were no baking trays and the knives are all blunt / chipped so was somewhat difficult to chop anything. Owner did call, leave a voicemail and then call again within a few minutes to challenge the numbers of people in the property. We had 6 people - we had booked for 6. This was settled fine on the phone and I offered for him to come check but I felt it was a little intense to repeatedly call, giving no opportunity to respond to the first call/voicemail.

The cottage was overall very nice and we had a wonderful staycation!

. The location is fab with the lake only a very short stroll down the street. The wood burner is a lovely feature especially on autumn/winter rainy nights! My partner was really pleased with the internet speed and sky TV! The reclining sofa was a real bonus for our tired & weary legs from walking up Snowdon! The cottage is cosy and comfortable and the kitchen is clean & is really well equipped for home cooking. The bedrooms are bright & airy with comfortable beds and nice quality bedding & bath sheets. The welcome doggy hamper was also very much appreciated by Daisy our Jack Russell! We do have several suggestions but please note these are not major critisms. The internal door leading to the living area does not close & swings open which gets a little annoying & you have to wedge it shut. The blinds also look a little tired and the yard at the rear could do with a little spruce up, although I do appreciate we visited in Oct and we had quite a lot of rain! All in all a great stay and if we are to visit the area again we would be sure to try and book Snowdon View!! Thank you
