What our customers say about their holidays
Keith - Verified booking
Thatched Cottage is very old and comfortable and has all one needs for a quiet relaxing holiday in a fantastic country setting, but needs some internal TLC, the wall as you enter the cottage is breaking away (plaster?
), in the excellent conservatory , and utility quite a few of the Double glazed windows have 'blown' spoiling the wonderful views . Having said this the cottage is well equipped and very comfortable if you want peace and quiet this is the place for you, many eating places and country houses/parks etc all close by, or relax in the lovely gardens with chairs and cushions supplied by the owners, listening to the birds and if up early enough to see the deer walking across the fields, The owner (Karen) who lives opposite the cottage is lovely and has fresh eggs and lovely venison produce if you are not a vegetarian, Both are highly recommended as in general is the Thatched Cottage, if the time and expense allows to fix the above items could be 100% perfect . The 5pm take over time is very late and should be brought in line with most other holiday lets, usually 3pm. (4pm at the very latest)

A lovely, cosy little cottage, very clean and welcoming.
In the write up about the cottage it quotes - Settle down at the dining table ready to tuck in, or venture out to the enclosed garden and base yourself amongst the shrubbery as you toast to a memorable retreat; treat yourself to a long soak or warm shower as the dishwasher takes care of your dirty dishes, and spend some extra time completing your skincare routine before winding down in the lovely double bedroom. Although no dishwasher was listed in the kitchen equipment we were further teased to have 2 x dishwasher tablets put out for us! We never did find the dishwasher. Problems with the TV only managed to get BBC iplayer, we donât go on holiday to watch TV but couldnât get the other channels quoted in the cottage handbook. Internet was slow or non existent at times but appreciate this maybe the location. Would recommend and the little outside patio is a real sun trap and quiet.

This was our first visit to the area and we definatley plan to return.
The cottage is very well located (just a 30 â 45 minute drive to some lovely walks and attractions, with Cerne Abbas just a 10 minute drive away), charming and well equipped. Phone signal/wifi is a bit âhit & missâ, but there was good wifi signal in the downstairs bedroom & conservatory (and for us, this was sufficient). The garden is huge & somewhat secure, although I would recommend you keep an eye your pooches as there are some gaps an âescape artistâ could possibly find. It was so tranquil and a very comfortable cottage to stay in. We came with 2 dogs â a senior & a puppy â and we found the book on the coffee table âDorset Dog Walks (or Ronnieâs Ramblesâ both useful and entertaining. Do take the time to meet Karen in the right hand cottage opposite â she is a mine of information & a source of local venison. We are looking forward to returning soon.

I thought that the cottage was beautiful, presented wonderfully and it was a joy to stay here, The facilities were fantastic and this made our little holiday fantastic !
The bedroom has a small wardrobe / plant room for the water tank, this did smell heavily of damp and the foul smell was noticeable enough for us to buy a scented candle for the stay, furthermore this cupboard has mouse droppings and a whole in the floor which seemed to be letting the mice in, the droppings were also in the bathroom around the window too. This was not enough to put us off coming back as we understand this sort of issue comes with the territory of being in an isolated location in an old cottage, the cottage was enough to make us overlook these issues. I would genuinely rebook this cottage again and most likely will for next year ! I think these two small issues can be addressed easily and will make this a 100% 5 out of 5 star property.

We thought the property was pretty, unusual and interesting.
The kitchen was well equipped and that is important to us. Our dog enjoyed it too. She managed to escape the gate a couple of times but came to no harm. A better latch might be a plan though. We enjoyed the location and managed to walk to the superb Smugglers Arms. Sadly, we only realised that this was possible on the last evening. There were two negatives, for us, but accept that both would be difficult to solve. The conservatory got very, very warm even on moderately sunny days. It was stifelling when we first arrived. It is very small, even for just 2 people and a dog. There was nowhere to store anything. But we still enjoyed our stay. The tiny garden area was charming and gets sun pretty well all day.
