  We've just spent a week at this cottage (3rd to 10th August 2024), a family of 6 with 2 dogs and would highly recommend this. Kevin & Kate, the owners were an absolute pleasure to deal with. They gave us all the information we needed prior to arrival, including tips on where to visit and things to do. They also kept in touch during our stay to make sure everything was ok for us. Fortunately, as we reluctantly left on the Saturday morning we happened to bump into them. A lovely couple. The cottage was immaculate and catered for all our needs. We reported a possible wasps nest to the owners who promptly dealt with that after our departure. We cannot fault this cottage at all. The gardens were beautiful with absolutely amazing views down the valley to the coast. Not forgetting the beautiful wildlife when you open the curtains first thing of a morning. The nearby farmer, Graham & family were lovely & friendly with occasional chats and lovely views of him with his 2 dogs rounding his sheep up in the hills. We will definitely be booking to go again next year but will be a little earlier as we just missed the annual week long festivities in the local village of Gatehouse of Fleet.

  This is an excellent holiday cottage which is really well equipped.

  It works really well for a couple or small family. It has excellent storage and has been really well thought out. The sofa bed in the lounge is very comfortable and easy to use. The owner had left lots of nice touches like wine, shortbread and fresh flowers. The owner is nearby and provides a lovely welcome and has lots of useful local information. The house is very central. Directly across the road is a lovely café and shop behind which is the local spar. Although no garden there is green space at the river, woodland walks and the local park are only a couple of minutes walk away. If you are here with kids then the Cream of Galloway outdoor play centre, Laggan Outdoor Centre and a range of pretty beaches are all within a short drive. We had a brilliant week and would definitely book again.

  Laghead Cottage is in a eonderful location if you are wanting to be remote, with amazing views down over the Solway Firth, but also close enough to Gatehouse of Fleet and Kirkcudbright for picking up shopping. The cottage itself was very comfortable for 3 adult guest and 3 labradors - it had everything we needed to keep us warm and comfortable all the time we were there, and the garden is very safe for the dogs! Our host was very attentive and promptly answered any questions we had, and when the start of our holiday was delayed 3 days due to the storms, he and Discover Scotland sorted out a refund for the lost days very quickly and without being asked. All in all, a lovely cottage in a lovely area which I expect we will be returning to and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to other people.

  A fantastic location for a week's break exploring Dumfries and Galloway.

  Very comfortable accommodation in which, everything worked. Good WiFi, smartTV, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, and well equipped kitchen. Right I'm the centre of Gatehiuse of Fleet, minutes walk from supermarket, shops, cafes, Mill, pubs and restaurants. Once inside, very quiet and comfortable location No allocated parking spot or garden, but even over a busy Easter weekend, we never had a problem parking on the street and there is a free car park opposite. There are parks and woodlands literally on the doorstep, so we did not miss a garden at all. Fantastic longer walks from from front door, so you needn't use the car at all if you don't want to go further afield. Very warm welcome and easy communication with the owner. Definitely recommended.

  This was a comfortable, not ‘luxury’ house, just outside Gatehouse. We could close the gates (bit old and shaky) and the area around the house was secure for our dog. Wifi reception was poor to non-existent, which was a minus point from us, as it was advertised (should have asked about signal strength). Kitchen has all necessary cutlery/crockery etc but make sure you arrive with tea/coffee and milk as nothing like that is left in cupboards. Nice views, saw red kites, buzzards, brown hare and rabbits (and some lovely ponies) in field opposite. Comfortable living area and beds. Nice shower rooms but bath towels very rough.
