What our customers say about their holidays

The property is semi detached and Jane the owner lives next door.
It is very rural, between two hamlets with views of the South Downs. Jane met us on arrival and took us around the cottage and pointed out one or two things to be aware of and to show us which keys fitted which locks. She said if any issues we could speak to her as she was about most times. The cottage was very clean and carpeted throughout except the kitchen and utility area. The bedrooms and bathroom were spacious and the bed very comfortable. Ample storage and cupboards were provided. The shower has a pump system and a choice of rain shower or hand held shower and was very powerful. There was plenty of crockery, kitchen utensils etc for our needs so no problems there. Also a linen line was available to dry the washing. We were also entertained by the wildlife including birds and a family of rabbits which visited the garden in the evenings. All in all a very enjoyable holiday (helped by the good weather) and a very pleasant place to stay. Jane had a chat with us before we left and wished us a safe journey. We would certainly return again in the future.

Whilst the accommodation is sound, quiet and in a good location we had extreme difficulties getting any basic necessities like toilet paper, kitchen towels, rubbish bags, dishcloths, dishwasher tabs and laundry detergent. The advertised iron and board were not available and any efforts trying to get anything done was met by a string of endless email excuses by the host (I use that term loosely). The furniture is old and uncomfortable especially the bed. The sofa is stained and a hairy dog blanket was placed on top to cover it. Outside furniture is no better with just 2 grubby camping chairs much like the table. There is no storage whatsoever, all are packed with white towels from their laundry supplier. Five hangers is all you should expect. We extended our initial booking and were billed for a second cleaning fee which we are now trying to resolve with Airbnb. Any help by the ‘host’ again non existent, I’m sure I was dealing with a bot most of the time with all the copy and paste…

The studio apartment location is perfect for access to Rottingdean beach, High street, The Grange museum is next door and buses into Brighton were a short walk away very regular running late into the evening. The price is affordable compared to others in the area. On road parking was not easily found, I recommend not arriving during school pick time ( 3-3:45pm) As the traffic was very busy along Vicarage Lane. After that time we had no problem finding a space 5 mins from the apartment. However I agree with others that the studio apartment is looking a little tired. The wash basin was cracked in the bathroom, blind in the bedroom broken, although the bed looked new and was very comfortable. The outdoor patio could be lovely but was unkempt lots of weeds and dead plants in pots with dirty patio furniture. More highs than lows but there is room for small improvements.

We have just returned from a lovely week in Sussex staying at the Dog and Trout. The cottage was super comfy and well equipped, with lovely large bathrooms. Our cockapoo was able to stretch his legs in the pretty and secluded garden. We really appreciated the lovely welcome gifts and it was nice to meet the owners, Julie and Martyn, who were very helpful. We were lucky enough to have mostly sunny weather and particularly enjoyed the three village pubs, which were all dog friendly and served great food. We went for some lovely walks from the cottage across the downs, up to Cissbury Ring, and travelled further afield to the coast and to the Weald & Downland Living Museum. Would recommend a car to get to the shops and village eateries. We may well be back!!

I was here for almost two weeks and enjoyed it very much. Great location generally. A plus was that it was set somewhat back from the back road which meant it was peaceful and quiet. It's close to supermarkets, independent coffee shops and bakeries, pubs and the beach, under-cliff and countryside walks. Getting the bus to and from Brighton is super easy. The property is well-equipped with everything you need for a longer stay, and, always a consideration, had a proper, sturdy bed and mattress for a good night's sleep. To top it off: it's really pet friendly with a small but excellent court yard. All-and-all, I highly recommended this for single professionals or couples. I'll easily go back.
