What our customers say about their holidays
Kate - Verified booking
Iâve been renting holiday cottages in North Devon for the last decade, and this property sits firmly in my top three!
The location is just perfect, only a couple of minutes to the (dog-friendly) beach and the town centre. Combe Martin itself is a great base location generally, but the proximity to the beach really makes this property stand out. The house had everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay. The stairs are a little difficult to navigate (as someone with mobility problems) but this was made clear within the listing. The cream tea on arrival was really welcomed - some milk would have been nice so we could have brewed up on arrival. The addition of a dressing table would be great as I found it difficult to dry my hair, having to move one of the bedside tables to be able to sit on the floor near an outlet and mirror. The lack of an enclosed area for the dog was the only draw back we could find; Newberry Beach is just across the road and is dog friendly all year round so this was exceptionally convenient for us, though having to get shoes on, leash up the dog, and then walk him up and down the street outside for his final toilet break before bed was a little frustrating, it would be nice to just be able to open the door and let him outside as we do at home. We did also find ourselves having to pick up a fair amount of cat faeces from the front gravelled area, though thereâs really very little that could be done to prevent this itâs maybe something the owner should be aware of as we did worry that it would be assumed that any we didnât manage to get would be attributed to our dog. Iâm unable to really pass comment on the cooking facilities as we ate out every evening, but at a glance it appeared as though everything needed to prepare meals was available. We had a fantastic week and this property and itâs location really contributed to that. Despite the slight niggle with the lack of enclosed outdoor space, weâre already looking at booking again for next year - and we have never re-booked a holiday let before! Thank you so much.

The kitchen was poorly equipped.
No serving spoons. cutlery thrown in the drawer. The cups has stain spots and we could not remove them. Also when water was tipped down the sink, it glugged for a while and then there was a slight odour of bad eggs. Think it needs some drain clear. I doubt the owner is aware of this. We had to have help sorting our the underfloor heating. One switch was in a cupboard that had no handle. We thought there was a shower not just the jacuzzi. Our fault we know. Never assume!! But it was difficult to crouch down in the jacuzzi to have a shower, using the hose which had a temporary repair. The photo, showed a private courtyard, but from the Coach house you looked out onto other parked cars and the side road and when you were sitting inside you felt you were in a goldfish bowl as everyone could see right into the room. My last comment is a personal one, but the bedding had been washed in very strong smelling detergent - fabric conditioner and it was so over powering it made us sneeze. Fortunately there were spare pillow cases, so we covered 2 cushions and used these instead. The smell was very strong. This is the first time I have ever written an adverse comment, but feel I should.

A lovely place to stay, with plenty to do.
Having the private beach was a real bonus as no need to get in the car if planning a day at the beach. Our grandson enjoyed the play area and had lots of fun together with children from the other cottages. The cottage was as described, and yes small but adequate for us and our grandson. We struggled to sleep well due to the small double bed which I had read about in previous reviews but chose to ignore hoping this issue may have been addressed. The cottage is nicely decorated and fairly well equipped, the towels were lovely and soft and although small , the bed was comfy. Our dog was also well catered for, treats, poo bags and even a towel. The animals were very friendly ,well cared for and enjoyed being fed on a regular basis (food available from the shared utility room). We didnât have a problem with the wi-fi or mobile signal as was previously mentioned in reviews. Staff very friendly and seldom seen so not intrusive in any way. The location is excellent, plenty of walking directly from the farm and a very short drive to Ilfracombe for supplies or day out etc. Also walking distance to local attractions and eateries. All in all a fabulous place to stay and highly recommend.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose

A mixed review.
Great location and the cottage had a well equipped kitchen. The garden is a nice feature and is sunny until the end of the day. However the main bathroom being on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are on the second floor is not ideal. We had the second bedroom set up as a twin room. The room is tiny, you can barely walk around the beds and neither of us could unpack as there was not sufficient storage. The twin beds were incredibly narrow (about the width of a pillow) but the quilts were single size and kept falling off during the night. The ground floor bathroom has no ventilation so it was very steamy and musty. The cottage is nicely decorated and has attractive artwork. Being a cottage there are lots of stairs, so it would not suit elderly people or families with young children. I would recommend the cottage for couples. The proximity to local shops, pubs and the harbour is one of the best things about the property.
