  There were a few faults with the property the first being the sofa it was so uncomfortable to sit on and its definitely due an upgrade.

  When hanging a towel on a hand rail in the main bedroom’s bathroom one side of the towel rail fell off as it wasn't attached. The bathroom itself need an extractor fan as there seems to be a build up of condensation, slight damp which shows the cracks that are appearing on the ceiling. The fan lights in both bedrooms need to be replaced or maybe firmly attached to the ceiling as they move and spin erratically which didn't seem safe to leave on. We also had to reattach the fan pull chain as it came off when turning the fan off. The main dinning table was very unstable so we had to wedge some cardboard under the leg so it was sturdy to eat on. I think the main thing for us personally was not being able to close the curtains it was far to bright in the rooms however the blinds served a good purpose for privacy but come early morning when the light broke through we were woken earlier than expected. However there was positives to property to it was very clean baring the smell of dog odour in the lounge area (which us to be expected being a dog friendly accommodation) we had access to all of the amenities to cook, clean and wash our clothes if need be with a wide selection of kitchen utensils. The beds were comfortable, The property itself was spacious well decorated and it did feel homely. On a bonus the property its situated in the perfect location to Torquay town centre which is within walking distance and if you find those stairs which leads down to the middle of town centre it will shorten your journey considerably. Overall the holiday experience was a pleasant one and minor the the few things I stated above. i would recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to be located in the perfect spot to have the peace and quiet during the night or day with many destinations that are only a short car/train journey away.

  Having been assured that the house would be deep cleaned before our stay I was horrified by the state of the place.

  It was extremely disappointing. On opening the front door and seeing the place for the first time I really didn’t know if I actually could bear to stay there for a whole week. Putting new geraniums in pots outside was no answer to making the rooms fresh and clean and clearing out all the clutter. The big bedroom on the right was so very dirty that no one would sleep in it. We found cloth and huge dust balls under the bed. It was disgraceful. The pillows and under sheet were not clean in the other two bedrooms. Only one bedroom on the right was of a decent standard. The carpets were so grubby and not suitable for my 9 month granddaughter to crawl on. The kitchen was haphazard and badly equipped. We had to take a door off the kitchen cupboard on the first night as it was loose and dangerous. The whole place was fusty and grubby. It was actually creepy to be there. The patio was unswept. The list goes on. As I had been in touch with Sykes before about the state of the house and been reassured that it would be deep cleaned I was hugely disappointed to find such an unbelievably dirty place. I expected some refund. I also recommend that you take this property off your books as it doesn’t reflect well on your company to have such a substandard property on your books.   Although the accommodation was clean on the surface (work surfaces/bedding/towels), there were many areas which haven't been cleaned for a long time and have huge amounts of cobwebs on them (fireplaces/windows/corners of rooms/outside porch).

  The terrace was also unswept and there were several pieces of rubbish laying around here and in the driveway. Muesli and large crumbs were also on the floor of the fireplace in the kitchen. Generally speaking, the house is showing some larger signs of neglect. The paint is peeling off the windows and comes off when opening and closing the windows - behind the shutter in the piano room the plaster is also coming off. The small stand and the table in the piano room both need fixing. The cutlery draw and the cupbaords in the kitchen are dirty and stuffed full of unneccessary items and there is hardly any room to store food because of this. Several windows cannot be closed properly and particularly the small window in the kitchen is a security risk because it cannot be closed at all because the handle has fallen off. We are happy to provide photos if this is required. Just to clarify - we do not count the problem we had with the electric (light in the piano room) as a problem. These things can happen and the Sykes employees we spoke to were fantastic and solved the problem (together with the owner?) quickly.

  Lovely little cottage, very centrally located in Torquay town centre.

  We were left a thoughtful gift of a bottle of wine, fudge and a dog toy on arrival by the owner, Joff. The cottage was clean and the white decor maximised the space and made it feel fresh. It was the perfect size as a base for our party of two adults, one teenager and our dog. I would have been slightly apprehensive about the stairs in the property if I’d been staying with a very young child, as they are fairly exposed at the top of the landing. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and opened out onto a patio area which was nice to sit out on. If, like us, your dog will only toilet on grass, there is a park about 5 minutes from the cottage called ‘Torwood Gardens’. To find it, turn right when you come out on the road, walk past the doctors surgery and Trinity House and walk along Torwood Gardens Road. We would definitely return to this delightful property.

  The cottage itself was pretty much as described and met our needs.

  Unfortunately the cottage stairs were very very steep and not at all compatible with my elderly Mum! As were the very hilly surrounding areas. The car park was also a problem as although I had purchased a week long parking permit, I was loath to move the car as the car park was very small and there were no guarantees you would get a space! Sadly we found the surrounding streets very dirty with litter and the actual entrance to get to the cottage was also sadly quite rundown and lacking any care and attention. The landlord was very friendly and helpful and the wine, fudge and dog toys were a nice touch. Not in a hurry to return to Torquay again.
