What our customers say about their holidays

Spent a week at Kites Nest in June '22.
Now, perhaps I should keep quiet about this place, don't want to encourage others to stay here and spoil it! You may have read many of the other reviews explaining just how great this place is, the friendliness of the owners, cleanliness etc. etc. and I can assure you that all are perfectly true. You may also have notices the two that stand out to me - a complaint that the sofa is 'too low' and another moaning about the potholes on the tiny rural roads. GET A LIFE!! This group of very rural cottages is fabulous! True, perhaps not the best place if you have mobility difficulties or expect to glide along trunk roads in your Porsche, or don't want your little Pomeranian to get her paws dirty! And don't moan about the cockerel crowing, waking you early in the morning. But, if - like me - you enjoy the rural life and long rural walks in the beautiful countryside and woodlands; somewhere your well behaved dogs will be just as welcome as you are...look no further. It's a few miles to the shops and the pub (you can walk up an appetite getting there). At about six or so in the morning the mist is lifting off Wenlock Edge as you walk up to give your dogs a good run through the woods, a truly beautiful sight; fresh, clean air and complete peace. Or, if you prefer, a quick tour round the beautiful private garden and woodlands before breakfast. Kites Nest is small but comfortable and well equipped, perhaps a little too small for two of us and a pair of Border Collies so our next stop here will be in Betty's Barn with the extra space. Being country folk ourselves we're quite used to sharing space with the odd spider or occasional mouse (entertainment for the dogs) but we never encountered any here, the place was immaculate. Try doing the shopping at Tuffins supermarket in Craven Arms, plenty of choice and value here. Please, enjoy your stay and leave it as you found it!

My dog spent the first few minutes of our arrival trying to get his nose under the sofa, when I put my hand under to feel what he was after, I could feel crumbs and old food.
Underneath the sofa hadn't been cleaned in ages - it was filthy. The sofa was very easy to move so it shouldn't have posed a problem We could find no instructions for the dishwasher and, never having owned one, we hadn't got a clue so, since there was no washing up bowl, we had to wash up in the sink. Trouble was the plug didn't fit properly and the water very quickly drained away. We did (eventually - when we were packing up) find the instructions for the microwave, but they were pushed up on the top shelf in the kitchen wall cupboard. The 2 sofas were very tired looking, too soft and quite grubby. The windows (what windows there were - it was very dark) looked as though they hadn't been cleaned all season. The bathroom was so dark it was impossible for my husband to shave and anyway, the shaving mirror was 'floppy' and wouldn't stay where it was put. The flush on the toilet was very short and it never felt as though it wasn't enough to flush it properly. Under the bed was very dusty and one of the knobs on the bedroom drawers kept coming off. There were absolutely no cleaning products, so we were unable to clean anywhere before we left. A bottle of bleach for the toilet and plugholes wouldn't have been a bad idea. There was a Henry hoover but I was damned if I was going to use it and leave the place cleaner than we found it. We'd booked Friday to Friday, but, partly because of the weather but mainly because it just wasn't a nice place to spend our time, we left for home on the Tuesday. On a positive note, the people in the village are all very friendly. The shop seems to stock most things and the bread they sell is wonderful. We ate twice at the pub, staff were lovely and very heplful and it was very reasonable. Both times we were more than happy with our meal (although the sprouts were disgusting

We felt that the dish washer was superfluous for just two of us: whereas a washing machine would have been handy.
The situation was superb and a map of the area was unfortunately missing, or rather hanging on the wall which is not exactly the right format for walking. There was a vast array of tourist information leaflets which was commendable, but nothing to highlight the wonderful walks near to the cottage. Compared to other organisations this was good value for money and we knew that the owner was always available in case of problems. The issues we mentioned are minor since we consider this the best of the many holiday cottages we have rented over the years. I feel impelled to mention that the signposting .of footpaths in the area is appalling and caused us considerable problems, though we appreciate that it is nothing to do with you or the owners of the cottage. However as a major player in the tourist market you might be able to influence the local authorities concerned.

The location of these rather pleasant barn conversions seems the most remote of places.
There is as near to zero traffic as you will get. The only sounds in the morning and evening are the activities of the local hens, peacocks and horses. The lanes are very narrow and windy, but there is very little traffic, so nothing to worry about. Shopping at Craven Arms or Church Stretton for food is around 20 minutes away. Wonderful walking country on your doorstep and interesting places to visit such as Much Wenlock and Ludlow are both very close. Although we went at the height of the tourist season, it still feels relatively undiscovered as an area. The hostess was very friendly and interested. They live in New Hall which is a fifteenth century house, with extensive gardens and woodlands. They have created a rather nice walk for the guests to wonder around, which is an added bonus.

They advertise a DVD player and there isnât one!
Only 6 mugs one of which is chipped. If you have a dishwasher you need more mugs, they are not expensive and it means you only need to put the dishwasher on maybe once every 2/3 days and save electricity. Was very surprised that there wasnât a j cloth in the kitchen⦠not expensive and it does help with the washing up. A boot scraper by the front door would help as thereâs no hall to stand in and it will save the front room carpet getting dirty! Also when wiping the kitchen floor on the 3rd day it was black so hadnât been washed properly for some time!
