What our customers say about their holidays

Itâs the worst cottage Iâve ever stayed in, and weâve never had the feeling where we want to get home.
We arrived in the dark, and went straight to bed, however even in the tiredness there was a smell. We woke up the following day, and the first thing we done was to go in the garden with the dogs. They couldnât use it as it was so overgrown they couldnât walk through it, and there was dog poo everywhere. There is a resident next door who said he cleared the path of dog poo also. The owner did get the garden sorted. I wouldnât also class the garden as enclosed. Anyone at anytime can walk through as thereâs a path that runs through the middle, it also isnât very accessible and itâs quite dangerous, especially the steps down to the house as they are steep. Even worse when itâs been raining as there is a lot of moss which is very slippery. There are also two dog bowls in the garden which have been sat there a while as they had green algae floating in them. Back to the property, the smell we couldnât get rid of and it stuck to all of our clothes. Unfortunately there is no washing machine to be able to wash the clothes. The property itself needs renovation work done as itâs very dated and also not practical. The floorboards in areas rock and squeak so loud so you cannot get up during the night without waking everyone up. The stairs are dangerously steep and narrow. They are not child or dog friendly, as an adult can barely get down them without holding on. The ceilings are also so low going into the bathroom you have to remember to duck. The bathroom is just not practical, itâs tiny. If you are of a larger size then I wouldnât bother booking! The toilet flush is temperamental, the water in the sink ran out brown on and off which was disgusting. The shower has mould in, and the shower is just appalling. There is no water pressure unless youâd like an ice cold shower. You have to turn it right up and run it for a good 5 minutes before any hot water comes out (same with taps throughout), and it dribbles! It eventually scalds you and then you turn to put a little cold water in the mix and it turns to ice. Downstairs was ok, again just very dated and smelt. The sofa is squeaky. The kitchen is also tiny, and has to be spread out for storage into the dining room. The fridge was turned off when we arrived so had to switch that on to get it cold and the freezer door was broken. The windows are draughty and the bedroom one didnât close properly. We also had rain when staying and they leaked water inside. The front door and porch door also need sorting as they donât close properly. The porch door is very worse for wear as itâs splitting and is probably due to be replaced. The last thing, is the parking. Itâs appalling that a cottage hasnât got any form of parking. It confuses me why all the others along the row have parking round the side and this one doesnât? You have to leave your car parked against a wall tight, on a narrow country road. There is a pub opposite which the owner could make an agreement with that one car could park there! Overall, I wouldnât stay here again and we were really disappointed as it looked really lovely in the images but Sykes really need to update the listing to be accurate. I did contact during the stay, but they were so slow to respond that I gave up waiting. We spend so much time travelling the UK with the dogs, and go to a lot of cottages, but this one just doesnât seem fit to be renting out to the public. It really needs updating and work done prior to doing this! We thought maybe because it was a listed property, thatâs why theyâve not done anything with it, but then we looked on a competitors website at the rental cottage next door and theyâve made it practical! I feel so bad but someone needs to be honest to help get this improved and itâs very disappointing at present.

Itâs a lovely cottage and location.
The cottage has comfortably sized bedrooms, living room and dining room. The original open fireplace is a lovely addition although not needed for a summer stay. We liked being able to pop over the road for a drink in the good quality pub-restaurant and loved being able to walk through the fields to the coast and observe local wildlife: deer, hares and many birds. Langton Herring is in easy reach of Weymouth, Lulworth Cove, Bridport and Lyme Regis. We didnât like the tiny bathroom or having to crouch to move from room to room upstairs. Smartening up the bathroom would help a lot, as would some subtle signage to remind guests to duck to avoid banging their head at the top of the stairs. Parking was fine once weâd worked it out. A map of where to park would be much more useful than the photos provided in the folder. Having to double bag all rubbish, as stated in the hostâs information folder, was the worst thing. Having paid a lot of money, being required to fish rubbish out of the bin to double-bag it just so the owner can avoid paying trade rates for waste felt very unwelcome. Itâs not our responsibility to help someone avoid paying taxes they donât like.

We had a really lovely stay at Badgers Cottage, starting with a wonderful welcome package full of delicious local produce, which was a real treat.
The beautiful cottage was very well equipped, with every pot, pan, and utensil you could need, including a slow cooker, and the living room had the comfiest sofa I'd ever sat on. The garden was a real sun-trap and the bench overlooking a field of lambs was the perfect spot for a cuppa and a book. Langton Herring is so peaceful and The Elm Tree Inn is a stone's throw from the front door. Plenty of beautiful walks with stunning views and all the people we met were really friendly. It was great base for days out to Weymouth, Portland, Abbotsbury & Durdle Door. The only feedback I'd have is that the bathroom needed a little TLC, but we were informed about this prior to our visit. Also, we had a couple of blustery days and there was a lot of noise coming from the chimney in the twin room, I think where there's a covering to prevent drafts which blew about a bit. Boys were happier once we'd established this wasn't a ghost. ;) Overall I would not hesitate to recommend Badgers Cottage as a perfect base for a Dorset holiday. Thank you for helping us make happy family memories.

We enjoyed a lovely week at Badgers Cottage in September.
It is a charming cottage full of character and very comfortable. The equipment was first class. For a cottage of this age and nature it is very spacious apart from the bathroom which we were warned in advance was very compact. There was a large enclosed garden at the rear safe for our dogs with a huge fruit laden apple tree. We are very mobile pensioners in our late seventies, but the challenge of the steep steps from the back of the cottage to the first level was daunting and from a safety point of view really required some type of hand rail to avoid potentially a serious accident. The location of the cottage for touring the Dorset coast is ideal. It is a shame that the Elm Tree pub opposite was closed down as this would have been a great asset during our stay. The village is charming and the walk down to The Fleet is worth the effort. All in all a most enjoyable Autumn break in this homely cottage.

Wow! Where do I start?! We have stayed in cottages all over the country and this gem of a place has been the best! Lovely helpful owners who told us about some fantastic place to visit. The welcome hamper was amazing and the freshest eggs from the cottages new chickens! The cottage was so comfortable and cosy and had everything you could possibly need, set in a stunning little village. The walks from the cottage were superb. If you don’t fancy cooking there are numerous places nearby to eat for example Millers farm shop for breakfast and snacks and a little shopping, to Tuckers thatched pub just a few miles away. I would recommend River Cottage Kitchen in Axminster for an evening meal, delicious! Over all I would absolutely return to this cottage. We simply did not want to leave! Thank you 😊
