What our customers say about their holidays

Iâm going to start with the positives.
Hot tub was amazing. Really bubbly and perfect temperature. However we have stayed in lots of holiday lodges and weâre used to having the hot tub checked and wiped over daily. This happened twice during our stay. Outside area is also lovely and comfortable with beautiful views over the field. There was however a cushion pad missing from the outside sofa which would have left someone with no seat if there had been 4 of us staying. I let the property manager know this by text. The pressure and temp in the showers was the best Iâve ever had in a holiday lodge. However, there was no sieve, colander, corkscrew or cafetière in the kitchen. I couldnât even make a pot of pasta as I couldnât drain it. Even if there was a sieve or colander, there wasnât a pot big enough to cook pasta. Given that this is a lodge for 4 people thatâs not good news. Only 2 rings worked on the hob also. The couch in the living room was very uncomfortable and as a result I spent most of my time on the outside couch. Thatâs fine as we had good weather but if it rained I would have spent a lot of time on a very uncomfortable couch. The pillows in both bedrooms were wafer thin and the fact that the pillow slips were enormous made them feel and look even more flimsy. Considering that we spent over £1000 for seven days none of this is good enough and I hope the owner reads this and makes the necessary changes.

Very clean and tidy, bed was comfortable which is more than can be said for the sofa which was low to the ground and very uncomfortable, chairs werenât much better.
Wi-Fi was very weak and kept going off line which was very annoying. Felt the bear minimum of utensils were provided with no condiments not even a dish cloth to wipe surfaces. Iâve stayed in many properties with Sykes Cottages and I think Iâve always found a small supply of tea, sugar and coffee but not here. As has been mentioned it would have been nice if owners had checked with us, to advise places to go roundabout, were to eat etc., but must give thanks for the bottle of wine. The dog, however enjoyed running round the field which was huge, and the area immediately outside the property was good for first thing in the morning and last thing at night for the dog to do his business, thankfully a torch was provided. The property was well situated for the many beautiful beaches and the corner shop was well stocked for everything we needed.

Cottage was immaculate and in a beautiful setting over looking the lake.
Host had left a welcome pack, including a dog bag with a ball, this was a lovely touch. The only recommendation I would make is that the holiday park is huge and not well sign posted when you enter. It was extremely hard to find the cottage on the site and I had to ask in the on site pub for directions (which they werenât even sure about). I appreciate this isnât the hostâs responsibility but the park itself could do with directional signage to the correct roads within. Thankfully I arrived in the day but it would have been virtually impossible to find in the dark. That said, we had a fabulous stay. The location is in a prime spot for exploring. I would imagine the site is very busy in the summer but I would definitely visit again at quieter times as thatâs just my personal preference.

A very nice chalet in an excellent position within fairly easy reach of all the things we wanted to do and see in the area.
Our dog really liked the field. The negative items, which are really minor but are frustrations, mainly relate to the basic items in the kitchen, like no salt and pepper, no cleaning clothes, mismatched glasses and no tea/coffee and milk for your arrival drink. The welcome wine was very nice but as it was white why was it not in the fridge? The information pack, such as it was, being 3 laminated pages of basic information with nothing about rubbish bins, dog poo bins, etc. Local information leaflets comprised a large unsorted pile under the TV with some dating back 2 years. Sorting and updating would be helpful. As a point of health and safety the shower adjustment goes from warm to very hot easily with no warning.

It would have been appreciated if the owners, who only lived 100yds away, made the effort to call in at some point during our stay to ask if we were happy with everything and to point out some places of interest or whatever.
The only time we made contact was when I phoned to tell them we were leaving a day early, as we had a long drive back to Devon and wanted to break the journey, and also to let them know about an outside light that wasn't working. However, the accommodation was comfortable and suited our needs and was very quiet. The only downside was that I kept hitting the leg of the bed with either my foot or leg especially at night, and being of a certain age that nature calls me out once or twice a night, this is due to the fact that when the door is open into the bedroom the gap between door and bed is about 9" and in the dark it's very awkward!! Regards, Tony
