What our customers say about their holidays

  • Claire - Verified booking

We had a lovely relaxing stay at this cottage.

Wonderful views across the highest tors in Dartmoor. Great base for exploring NE and NW Dartmoor. Only 45 minutes to Bude on the coast which is worth a visit. The cottage had a delightful cream tea on arrival and the owners were very helpful and friendly. We had lots of wildllife to enjoy including Mr Mole, Sheep, geese, wild rabbits and a horse in the paddock. The cottage had all we needed for a comfortable stay including a log fire which was cosy. The small criticism was that the Christmas tree had a coating on it to stop the needles falling inside the cottage, and unfortunately this gave off a pungent smell like linseed oil in putty. This did cause breathing issues for me as I have asthma. Plus there were a few cobwebs in the rafters. But these are minor issues as the tree was for Christmas time at the cottage and not there all year round. The memory foam mattress takes getting used to as it can cause overheating during rest but still comfortable. There are occasional noises to accept as the property has public toilets on the outside wall of the property for the use of the campers. But overall the holiday experience was great and relaxing and I have already recommended the cottage to friends. Great base for exploring and great to have an enclosed garden to use in the summer plus great for pet dogs to run around in safely . It was great to have everything on the ground floor and the water is really hot for baths plus large bathroom with good shower and toilet. Great to have heated towel rail too. Nice and clean with nice soaps and plenty of towels. Just need to vacuum up the cob webs from the rafters plus check under the leather cushions on the sofa bed to vacuum a bit of dust, but apart from that it was a great cottage

What a hidden gem! Firstly, the owner, Jan, is wonderful - nothing was too much trouble for her. The Hideout was amazing - clean, compact and with absolutely EVERTHING provided that you would need. We were very tired having arrived after a very long overnight flight so to see complimentary tea, coffee, milk and doggie provisions (towels, waste bags etc) meant we did not have to buy anything immediately or plough through our suitcases for dog "bits". Great, quiet location - lovely walks with or without dogs. The secure and pretty outside space was lovely so the dogs could wander around freely and we could enjoy reading and just chatting the time away. The inside of the Hideout was perfect for us - it was warm and cozy, great wifi (if you need it), TV, super comfy bed and fantastic bathroom. We slept exceptionally well with good quality curtains to keep out the light, an extra heater for the bathroom and great wall mounted heater in the living area which worked very quickly (it was 9 degrees outside!!!). As we decided not to cater for ourselves, popping in next door to the village cafe and store and ordering our meals was seamless. As we had a long car journey ahead of us we placed an order for sandwiches the night before "to go". The quality and price of the food was perfect. HAD we decided to cook for ourselves, once again, absolutely EVERYTHING was provided. If we ever come back to this part of the UK I would not hesitate to visit this property again - how can you improve on perfection?!?!?!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Olive Lodge in early June and were pretty lucky with the weather so we got to enjoy the comfortable external furnishings almost as much as the lovely interior ones.

The Lodge has everything you need to enjoy a week long stay, regardless of the weather (sunshine helps though!). It is ideally located very close to the local beaches, Avon Beach is great for those with mobility issues, and on a park with really good facilities which cater particularly well for children and the young at heart (rekindled our youth briefly in the arcades!). The on-site restaurant serves up a decent breakfast and dinner if you want a break from cooking in the well equipped and decent-sized Lodge kitchen, but don't wish to travel. The Lodge is a good size for a 4 person stay with two bathrooms, both with showers (one of which is very small but adequate). The multiple Velux windows help to keep the living area relatively cool on a hot sunny day and has a fireplace to keep you nice and snug on colder evenings. If eating out, we would say you can't beat The Rising Sun pub and Lins fish & chips (best ever!) for quality. If you are holidaying in the wonderful county of Dorset, we would highly recommend The Olive Lodge, which stands out as the best amongst its neighbours on the park

We booked a week's stay at View The Gallery for New Year 2023.

When we arrived, the barn was warm & welcoming along with a homemade cream tea from Gill, which was lovely & much needed plus a beautifully decorated Christmas tree! Unfortunately we picked the worst week in history to stay, as we endured sideways rain for the majority of our holiday but that didn't dampen our stay! The facilities were great, being able to store & cook all of the food we wanted, a huge bathroom with more than enough hot water (& lovely towels too!), Smart TVs (which we had to make use of given the weather on some days!), nice secure garden for our dogs to wander around in & private parking. The town is a short drive away with a great choice of supermarkets & shops. The barn is situated in a rural area so was fantastically peaceful with easy access to Dartmoor! Visit Meldon Reservoir, you will not be disappointed! We had our perfect New Year despite the weather & will definitely be back again! Thank you Gill & Derek for your kind hospitality!

On arrival the Chalet was clean though I had the impression that the bathroom at the rear had not been cleaned thoroughly due to the washbasin having a large pool of liquid soap from the dispenser underneath the dispenser which was not leaking.

The Chalet is pleasant to stay in and comfortable however the passageway leading from the main living area to the bedrooms/bathrooms is very narrow so that we repeatedly knocked our arms on the door handles as we passed, my suitcase only just fitted in the width of it. It was reasonably well equipped though on looking for a cheese grater there was none so I bought a cheep one, everything else was good with enough oven trays etc. The fact that we did not have our own parking space made things more difficult as we could not park next to the property and on occasions struggled to find a space. There is enough room at the side of each chalet but it is grassed and parking on this is not allowed. I struggled to connect to the wi fi and contacted reception, a man came and did something in the box outside and the wi fi was good afterwards, We enjoyed a good holiday and the lodge is a very pleasant one to stay in for a holiday.
