What our customers say about their holidays
Michelle - Verified booking
We stayed here during the hottest week of the year so it was more like Tuscany than Wales!
We couldnât have chosen a better place to stay, as with the 30 degree temperatures, it was too hot to visit many places, (especially with our elderly dog), so we mostly relaxed on the deck and enjoyed the beautiful view. The parasol was missing from the table when we arrived, but after contacting Debbie, it was quickly delivered to us by her caretaker, Jo, from which point onwards we were able to eat al fresco from breakfast to supper. It was a lovely, peaceful location, with only the sounds of the birds & the sheep softly drifting across the valley. (Except for two days when several fast jets on their way to the Mach loop went over â which was thrilling!) The cabin was very comfortable, though we did have to buy a large fan to keep us cool day & night in the exceptionally hot un-Welsh weather. Everything you need for a short stay is there so donât let the size of the accommodation put you off. In fact, with the cabin opening out on to the large deck outside, it all felt quite spacious. Debbie told us we could use their hose to cool our dog down, and how to get down to the stream, which was literally a five minute walk up the road. This turned out to be a regular evening walk for our dog, who due to the heat, actually enjoyed paddling in the shallow water, (as usually heâs a bit of an aquaphobe). Notes for other stayers â Tesco & Asda deliver to the village, so we were well stocked up for our week in the sun without having to find a local shop. Like others, we couldnât get a TV signal, but it wasnât an issue for us given the weather. Also we couldnât get a phone signal, so did feel a little cut off at first. (The lodge has great wifi, but unfortunately neither of our current phones has calling over wifi available.) However, Debbie advised us to walk up the hill a little, which did indeed solve the signal problem. And Jo said to give her landline number to anyone that might need to contact us, as she is just down in the village. Our weekâs stay was heaven and Iâd thoroughly recommend it, as it is an idyllic rural location and the lodge has all the home comforts you need to enjoy your time there.

We are one of the first people to stay in the beautifully kitted out hut and we were so pleased.
The location is awesome: itâs quiet and peaceful which is exactly what we wanted. Itâs also very private as there are only three huts in the vicinity so there arenât many people wandering around. The three huts are also very spaced apart to ensure there is a lot of privacy and we were not overlooked by anyone. The decor is very modern and colourful. The bathroom very clean and functional - amazingly powerful shower. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you could need for a few days away. We thought it was such a lovely gesture by the hosts Chris and Fern to leave us local goodies. In fact, we loved them so much we went to the shop twice to buy more brownies! The bed was very comfortable and spacious - it was a king sized bed which is fabulous as Iâm a light sleeper. We also appreciated that we were provided with wood, charcoal and BBQ tools if we wanted to use the fire pit or have a cook-out. Our dog Tess, who is a Border Collie, also enjoyed herself - the enclosed garden was perfect for us. There were deckchairs available with cushions and a parasol so we were able to soak up the sun one day. We highly recommend this place and will absolutely visit again. Iâve already told family and friends who are more local to Wales that they should come and stay here. Thanks again to our lovely hosts. See you again soon!

Collen the shepherdâs hut is an extremely special place to stay.
Tucked away through some woodland, surrounded by nature, itâs an ideal retreat. The hut has been so well designed with every detail of everything you may need to make a comfortable stay as special as possible. The shower was great, hot & good pressure. The bed was sumptuous & lovely big quilt (Iâd just suggest a mattress cover for cleanliness). I loved the Kew Crockery along with every shape & size glass, bowl etc . It took me a little time to get my head around the air fryer but a very good idea. Iâd suggest little heat proof bowls that can be used for poaching eggs/smaller portions . I really appreciated the coffee, condiments & olive oil spray - how thoughtful! As per the cloths, bags etc Thank you for the gorgeous fluffy towels & body wash etc . I was all ready & hoped to use the little burner too but it wasnât chilly enough ! Iâll look forward to using it another time ! Lastly thanks so much Chris & partner for making this such a special place to stay - a break so often doesnât feel like a break when accommodation doesnât match up to expectations. It really does feel indulgent & very special Best wishes Jill

Extremely lucky to be the first visitors in Collen, one of 3 gorgeous shepherds huts.
The hut is superbly kitted out with everything you need and so tastefully styled and very thoughtfully designed. Everything is of a very high standard and quality. Very comfortable bed, excellent shower and lovely kitchenette. The huts each have their own beautiful garden with fabulous seating and fire pit and are fully enclosed to keep dogs safe. There is a very well designed shared garden/wildflower area and the huts are far enough apart to give you ample privacy to enjoy your own space. The woodland surroundings are just lovely with a short walk well marked out. The owners were lovely too, very welcoming and friendly and they kindly left for us some delicious local sourdough bread, bara brith and Welsh cakes, fresh eggs from their hens and teas and coffee and condiments. What an absolute treat and to top it all we had fabulous weather! We would definitely love to return and canât rate it highly enough.

Totally out of this world!
! We arrived after dark the day we were due to arrive so could not see the beauty of the view and in fact looked quite eerie as the ground fell away into pitch black darkness. After waking though the views were just out of this world, especially as the day woke up and the view evolved with the passing weather. We were all including my dog were in awe as we pulled back the curtains. This place was a total reset fo us and utter sanctuary as we stayed in the whole few days we were there apart from dog walks. Suggestions for the owners. The house sign was not legible in the dark as we drove past it several times till we found it and an outside security light that can light the way from the parking to the gated entrance as arriving in the dark and unpacking was hair raising in the dark due to the slippery stone and wooden steps. Also a handrail for the steep wooden steps as they are a bit lethal in the rain.
