What our customers say about their holidays

The location and size of the apartment was good although the layout was inconvenient (bedrooms right on street). The living room furnishings were ok and very abundant although bedrooms were missing storage and the decor was confused, a sign saying "man cave" with other man cave items, along with dainty chairs and a surfeit of cushions. A nice table to eat off in the kitchen and apparently a lot of kitchen utensils although we didn't cook (and many weren't clean). The shower was powerful and there was adequate heating. However these weren't enough to offset the bad things. DON'T STAY HERE.... Host & Stay do not care about you - they just want your money. Black mold in shower, plates, trays and table mats filthy and sticky. Yard full of rubbish, looked like it hadn't been swept for years. No kitchen roll on empty holder. One toilet roll and after that you have to provide your own (we were told). Too stingy to even provide another toilet roll! Just cafetiere for coffee. No dish sponge, just dishwasher-horrible waste of energy & water for a few dishes. Bedrooms are literally on the street; the other side of the windows is pavement where people are walking. No nets so have to keep blackout blinds down and lights on or you will be on show; what's the point of those windows? Get some nets on there!!! No windows in living room btw. Floors wonky, edge of mattress collapsed, socket hidden behind bed, no good place to hang or store clothes. Horrible smell in second bedroom, walls covered with cobwebs. No internet the entire time. Wrong wifi given in online info so we connected to wifi router actually in apartment but it had no connection to the internet. Called and emailed Host & Stay many times & received absolutely no help. Day 1 said they would contact owner, nothing Day 2, Day 3 they said fault with ISP. Day 4 (as we were leaving) said they were going to contact the owner. Wait, what? Hadn't they done that already? Obviously not. Then they insultingly sent us a message asking us if we were connected to the correct router/modem. I had sent them multiple screenshots showing we were but there was no connection to internet. It's shocking how little they cared. I lodged a complaint over a month ago and heard nothing from them yet.

Central location was excellent overlooking the castle and well placed for pubs and restaurants. Property was well equipped and modern and the kitchen was a lovely space. No parking or parking permit provided. There is parking nearby but the nearest requires a permit. The bedrooms were directly overlooked from the pavement and the kitchen and living room was overlooked by people accessing the other properties within the location. Privacy was therefore an issue. Windows onto the street were dirty making the property look scruffy. No mop or brush was provided although there was a vacuum cleaner One bath towel was provided per person which was insufficient and a request for additional towels was refused. We had one towel each for one week. No mat was provided so when it rained the communal entrance hall floor became wet and dirty. The double bedroom smelled of damp and has made our clothes smell (there appears to be damp around the window. We bought a scented candle to mask the smell. The living room has very little natural light and the lighting provided doesn’t help to brighten the room. Same for the bathroom which needs a light around the mirror at least. During the evening the living room is cosy with the lamps provided but during the day it feels dingy and a bit depressing. The outside area could do with some attention - could’ve been brushed to clear up old leaves and dirt. Just made the area look unkempt.

This house is an absolutely gorgeous space and was perfect for our family gathering. The location is amazing, the castle and gardens are easily walkable as well as local shops. The living areas are spacious and comfortable, and the decor throughout is immaculate. The house is well equipped and the owner was very responsive and helpful when we had questions. The beds were really comfortable, and the multiple bathrooms makes life easy. Two little issues - The WiFi works brilliantly on the ground floor but gets progressively intermittent as you go up the house. Some Wi-Fi extenders would be helpful. The local 4G works fine though, if you have plenty of data! The childrens bedroom (bunk bed room) bizarrely has a Yale lock on the inside which puts them at risk of locking themselves in - we kept it on the latch but then the door didn’t stay closed. Neither of these issues impacted our stay too much but worth being aware of. We had a great week here and would definitely choose to stay again if we visit Alnwick in the future.

Self catering so brought our own food. Good location, really close to Alnwick Castle. Outdoor area was good as we had a small dog. Bins close by too although no blue recycle bin as mentioned in data. Disc for parking should have been supplied, we parked initially in 24 hour car park and the day after went in search of a disc. Sofas were well worn and not comfy to sit on. The high bar table was wobbly, definitely not suitable away from the wall. Marks on pillow cases in front bedroom. Light outside made it illuminated so eye mask required. On second night people had moved in under us, they were very loud and kept slamming doors until gone 11pm. On third night people moved in above us and we were woken at 6am with screaming shouting children till 7.15am. People from rooms along the corridor downstairs kept leaving both back and front doors open. Front door was unlocked on numerous occasions, very dangerous as it leads onto a busy road.

We were delighted with Claremong and would definitely book it again.
Lots of plus points - it was spotlessly clean, spacious, warm and comfortable and, of course, the view from the lounge window was fantastic. The bed was very comfortable too. It was a great help to have clear instructions for use, with photos, for all the appliances. The information file was very comprehensive. Details like plenty of hangers in the wardrobes were also appreciated. There were just a few small things that we would have liked eg hairdryer, small milk jug, chopping board (we only had the bread board), tray. We didn't expect to have to buy things like salt/pepper as our previous rented property had these basics. Given the price of the property, we were also disappointed that we had to provide our own towels. But it was a lovely flat and we would very much like to return to it.
