What our customers say about their holidays

The accommodation is perfect, plenty of space and amazing views from all the Estuary facing windows. This is our second stay because we love the area and this is one of the best apartments we have stayed at. The staff at Original Cottages were, as ever, very helpful. Spotlessly clean and comfortable lounge with three large bedrooms and would accomodate three couples. Our beds were comfortable and there was plenty of eating space in the kitchen. Sadly no necessities were provided on arrival and had to do a small emergency shopping to see us over until the morning. Good supermarkets are mostly within walking distance and a short walk down the hill behind the apartment there are some amazing eateries and the main shopping area. The slope down from the offloading area is quite steep and the front step a little difficult but once inside you will be well rewarded. The free parking pass for the Mayor's Carpark was most acceptable but we were lucky to be able to get the occasional space in a closed location.

Fantastic interiors slightly let down by external space
The property was very clean and offered a great deal of space for a family of five, which was important for a town centre location without a garden. The Victorian character of the house had been well-retained and was tastefully decorated, but with a modern kitchen that was excellent. The large lounge offered fantastic views across Dartmouth, with plenty of seating and high quality furnishings. The bedrooms were equally comfortable and well-appointed. The only downside was the exterior of the property, which was slightly shabby. The courtyard at the rear of the house could have benefitted greatly from an all-weather sofa or similar seating, as the plastic chairs were uninviting where a small haven could have been created. As a result, we didn't spend any time outside. Overall, the property is definitely recommended in its current state and superb location, but could be exceptional with just a few small adjustments. We'd definitely stay again.

The property is in a lovely location.
There was 11 of us in the property and it was big enough for us all. The property was quite tired and some of the electronic games didn't work the TV room TV didn't work either so no videos could be watched. Kitchen was well equipped but tired. The furniture was well worn and the throws on the settees were covered in dog hairs so needed washing or replacing. The vacuum wasn't safe as it sparked when used. One of the mattresses in the family room needs replacing very uncomfortable it looks like there's has been another mattress placed on top of a worn one. The windows are extremely dirty cant have been cleaned in months and its a shame as the views are great. We paid extra for the swimming pool which the kids enjoyed. Left a snagging list in the property when we left so hopefully these things will get sorted. Also sent 2 email to sykes whilst we was there they still havent answered them so wasn't happy about that. The location and the views really good easy walk to the town and amenities.

Fab holiday very comfy and conveniently located house
The house is very well appointed and comfortable with plenty of room for everyone and the kitchen has all you would ever need. It is extremely conveniently located within a few minutes' walk of Dartmouth town centre, a very pretty town with breathtaking scenery and fantastic shops and restaurants etc. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday. The only disappointment was the outside space, we knew the garden areas would be very small, but they could have been so much more inviting. Very uncomfortable old, worn outside furniture, broken step at the back, lots of pots with dead plants etc. The outside space was at odds with the high standard of the rest of the house. We were lucky to have glorious weather but hardly sat outside at no. 17 because the front and back gardens were both so uncomfortable and scruffy. Rectify this and you could not find a better rental in Dartmouth, it would make it superb.

I do not usually complain even if I have a really bad meal but because this property costs a fair bit, I felt I had to.
The view was outstanding...... but what a dump. The smell of damp as soon as you arrive hits you hard. There are not enough toilet facilities to accommodate the amount of bedrooms and the whole (hole) place needs gutting and updating. It feels dirty everywhere. My sheets on the bed were still damp from having been washed (hopefully) there is no downstairs loo but plenty of room to install one.... only mentioning this as it could be a big issue for people with mobility issues. The outside terrace needs a good tidy up with the removal of a large pot which contained numerous cigarette ends. We were greeted with the previous occupiers rubbish bags in a downstairs (outside) cupboard which had not been emptied before our arrival. The carpets are stained and have seen better days. I would advise anybody to think again before booking. What a shame as it could be stunning if completely knocked through and started again.
