What our customers say about their holidays

What a fabulous find this cottage is.
One of the most relaxing and comfortable that we have stayed in. From the moment of arrival ( parking was very close and really easy all the time of our stay) into the little front garden, to the end of our stay we felt completely at home. Both of the outside spaces were well kept, dog safe (patterdale terrier in this instance) and lovely for a morning brew or an evening glass of wine. The sofas and beds were comfy, the kitchen had loads of storage space, and plenty of glasses and cutlery for the two of us. The living room and dining area was a little haven of peace and quiet. The upstairs bathroom was roomy and the little shower room off the kitchen was "cosy" but the shower was really good. I don't think that the photos really do it justice. It is in a great position in the village with easy access by foot to everything, shop, restaurant, takeaways, cafe, butchers and bakers (except maybe the Spar at the Fuel station that's a good walk or a short drive really) For those interested in what's in the village There are many paths around the beautiful village for pretty walks or picnics. There are 3 pubs in the village but currently (May 2022) only one serves food and only Fri, Sat, Sun (which only really matters if you want to eat at the pub) but there are lots of places with a 15 minute or less drive to go to eat. The Chinese takeaway is good but only takes cash, The chippy only open Friday, Sat and Wed. The cafe does a really good meal and the butchers and bakers are fab The Italian is just Fabulous .. try it! Wolsingham is in a great spot for exploring the area around - or for just staying put, having a few walks and relaxing.

Just stayed at this beautiful cottage for 5 days and it was clear from the start the owners took great pride in their cottage and put their customers in front of making profit.
We recieved an email from the owners with excellent details before arriving with places to park and detailed instructions when in the cottage, never had this before. It is kitted out brilliantly. There is everything required and it has been thought about from a customers point of view, clearly taking up any issues arising and rectifying them after every visit, as seen in the guest book! Fully stocked tea, coffee, sugar, dishwashing tablets, cleaning stuff, sashet milk and all utensils required if you're wanting to cook or take out a packed lunch. Huge amount of storage, great lighting, decor is lovely, dogs welcome with easy wipeable flooring downstairs and lovely thick carpets upstairs. The children thought the bedding was divine. The colour schemes in the rooms e.g. pink bedroom looks great. Asked before hand if the bed could be split into twin beds which was set up on our arrival. Great matress, duvets and pillows often any old mattress and bedding is provided cheaply but these were really nice to sleep on. Very clean and tidy and beautiful front and back yard fully enclosed. We have really enjoyed our stay and the way you've set the smart heating etc so it's nice and cosy with starter wood if desired for the fire is such a fantastic idea. The kids enjoyed many games of chess and the big screen enabled us to watch family movies each night. Well done Tracy and Andrew, we normally use hoseasons but will definitely use sykes cottages again!

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday at The Aspens.
The Aspens stands alone surrounded by fields and meadows and has beautiful views of the countryside. Peace and tranquillity is guaranteed here well away from the world and it is totally private. The barn has been renovated and maintained to a very high standard and decorated and furnished with good taste and flair with an eye for detail. Every comfort has been catered for with luxury soft furnishings and bedding. It is immaculately clean and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we loved every minute Being keen birdwatchers we brought a long list of birds home with us. We were greeted by a family of spotted flycatchers in the garden and we saw black grouse and three species of owl in one week locally. The roe deer with their young were especially lovely to see in forest clearings in an evening. It is also perfectly situated for walking straight from the door or for touring the pretty villages of Teesdale and surrounding moors. We didn't want to leave this cosy and welcoming place and this holiday is certainly one for our memory box. Highly recommended but please leave a place for us!!!! This is a well appointed cottage surrounded by stunning scenery.
We were looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday, and we found it. The facilities at the cottage are excellent, from the underfloor heating to the very comfortable sofas and beds. The two ensuite bedrooms are both a good size and the shower in the main room was excellent (we only used one room but I am sure the second shower is good too). The kitchen had everything you could need including a coffee machine and wine cooler. The lounge was relaxing with good lighting, a log fire and a widescreen television. The wifi was reliable throughout. Outside, the cottage has wonderful views, and plenty of sheep with their playful lambs. The hot tub is well-maintained and extremely inviting, with separate towels, robes and slippers provided. A welcome gift of coffees, preserves, chocolates and prosecco was much appreciated. The owner, Mandy, is friendly, helpful and welcoming but also unobtrusive. She clearly wants to ensure that guests enjoy their holidays at The Aspens, and she certainly succeeded. We have already recommended the cottage to friends and family, and intend to return for a second visit in the future.

The Aspens is up there with the best holiday cottages we have used over the years.
The gift pack of local produce including fresh local milk, coffee, chocolates and the all important Prosecco for our first dip in the hot tub on arrival was very much appreciated. The fully enclosed garden was perfect to allow our puppy out in the gardens to explore without any worries over escaping, despite the attractions of the local bird and rabbit population. The old stone cattle barn has been expertly upgraded both inside and out with every home comfort imaginable, with the matching stone flags both internally and externally a personal favourite. The Aspens is an excellent base for exploring the many local walks in the surrounding dales of Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire and Cumbria, as well as for bird watching or simply relaxing in the hot tub, star gazing, if weather conditions allow. Iâve never seen so many Lapwings or Oyster Catchers in one place. We would highly recommend this property as a base for a relaxing break in the country, in total seclusion, but close enough to the local amenities in Mickleton or Middleton-in-Teesdale and look forward to returning in the future.
