What our customers say about their holidays

We have just returned from a weeks stay at The Old Wagon Shed Leven, whist we adored the cottage and decor and the high standard of accommodation it was felt that there was an issue with privacy.
When booking, the photos depict a cottage on its own and a large garden area with a BBQ, it fails to mention that you share a courtyard with the owners and their neighbours and are never truly alone. My suggestion would be to take more photographs of the shared courtyard so people know what to expect upon arrival. The cleanliness was amazing and the owners make every effort to make sure the cottage is to the highest standard - the welcome pack was brilliant with the homemade scones the best weâve ever tasted! Due to the cottage being empty the days before we were due to arrive Helen allowed us to check in early, however usually it is is 10am check out and 3pm check in, I understand this is standard however this information is not freely available until full payment has been made, I suggest that Sykes make this available when browsing before booking so people can make an informed choice. Mostly the facilities were good but we felt our time there wouldâve been easier if there was a dryer in the cottage, there isnât a washing line But there is a small clothes horse, however when you are travelling with a family of 6 and making good use of the amazing hot tub it is difficult to dry things you may need. The immediate area of Leven is lacking in things to do apart from a couple of pubs, however there is lots to do in surrounding areas such as The Deep at Hull and the seaside places of Bridlington and Hornsea. Overall, our experience was ok but I donât think we will be returning.

We really enjoyed our time at the Old Wagon Shed Cottage.
The hot tub was a great experience especially after dark. The tub was cleaned, re-filled and checked daily by the owner. We didn't use the log burner but this would be very cosy in the cooler months. The lounge was spacious with a Chester style leather sofa, pseudo chaise-lounge, easy chairs and a large flat screen TV with Netflix etc. The bedrooms were well appointed with comfy beds, the master en-suite being especially good. Nearby there is a large well kept grassy area with a large tripod BBQ. A few things that would have been of benefit was somewhere to dry washing, either a couple of pull out clothes lines by the hot tub or access to a rotary dryer. We found it a little difficult getting towels dry some days. Alternatively a condensing dryer would not take up too much space in the kitchen. A second shower or mixer tap set would help in the bathroom, especially when four or more adults are staying. The kitchen needs a salad bowl, a couple of serving dishes, a water jug and a non-stick frying pan. The cupboards could be rearranged to provide at least one cupboard for food. These comments shouldn't be taken in a negative way just our thoughts that maybe of help. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

What can I say about this property the photo's don't actually tell you, we stayed here over the weekend from Friday 2nd October and well.
.. this property is just truly amazing. The property is just as amazing in reality, the decor is just amazing throughout the house, part of me did actually want to try and pack the fabulous four poster bed and the chaise in the car to take it home with me. Helen and Lee have really done an amazing job!... Obviously times are hard at the minute but Helen made our stay just wonderful and safe. When we arrived at the property it was just absolutely spotless, hand sanitiser station on entry if you wished for it and the hot tub cleaned daily. The welcome pack containing Bread, scones, jam, biscuits, cereals, tea, coffee, milk and butter not to mention the bottle of prosecco was also just an wonderful and thoughtful addition. (Sorry we didn't save it for you Helen!) Plus the wood for the wood burning stove, which I admit we did use everyday not because the house was cold, far from it. But because it made our evenings playing board games in the front room that much more cosy. Helen made us truly feel welcome and we are all already planning on when we want to return!

It is a lovely little chalet.
We were there in late January/ early February, I can imagine it would be nice to sit on the fully enclosed veranda in summer. On arrival, there was no milk or oat milk, which was on the list of 'what to expect', however we had taken some with us just in case. The mattress was very soft and feels like it needs replacing. The same with the L shaped seating. There were only 3 mugs, not a huge problem, as when our friends came round, we used one of the 3 small tea cups. We found the sweeping brush which was provided was full of hairs, apart from that the chalet was clean, and well equipped. The instructions/ welcome book were very clear and helpful. A nice touch to have a caddy full of dog treats. The central heating an air con/ fan heater worked very well to warm the rooms very quickly. There are LOTS of rabbits around the chalets, which are nice to watch, but very tempting for our dogs! The owners went above and beyond to support us with a request regarding our dogs.

Just enjoyed a lovely week here (12th-19th April) The cottage was beautiful and had everything you could need if you were just wanting to have a lazy relaxing break, thereâs also plenty of places around you if you like days out.
We had a great day down at Bridlington and Beverley was a beautiful place. The cottage has leaflets for whatever you could need, takeaways, pubs, things to do. The welcome basket is such a lovely thought after a travel to get there. Thereâs a pub straight opposite and also a shop (sold a bit of everything you could possibly need), takeaway (id ring ahead and ask how long as there was a good 40 min wait for pick up), butchers/bakers and a restaurant-bar just 2 mins away. All in all a really relaxing, chilled out break weâve had. Hot tub was amazing and ready to go for us getting there and there was even a basket with sticks, logs and firelighters waiting for us. Helen and Lee certainly know the special touches to help you get settled and these pictures donât do the place justice, itâs an absolutely stunning little cottage and we will return for another break hopefully soon :)
