What our customers say about their holidays
Nicola - Verified booking
Property was lovely and clean.
However we encountered an issue with the oven which tripped the electrics. This has obviously been an ongoing issue as there was a sign advising not to use certain appliances at the same time as it would trip. As a consequence we could not cook any food. The owner reimbursed us for the cost of a takeaway. However the location meant we had to make unnecessary trips out as a family at additional cost as there wasnât anything nearby to eat. Weâd also purchased food to be cooked in the oven which was frozen and that had to be thrown away as we hadnât brought anything suitable to transport it home. Additional unnecessary cost and we were refunded £34 for one takeaway. We also had to have our stay interrupted by the maintenance team coming to measure for a new oven , appreciate they need to do this in order to fix it but it didnât help us feel settled and relaxed. Really disappointed as we had to completely change our plans and go out when the intention was to stay in and not travel (which I do for a living hence needing the break). Lodge and location are lovely, shame about the issue we encountered letting it down.

The cottage is small but very nice.
We went when it had snowed and on arrival found a window was open upstairs so it was extremely cold. We read the book and put on the wood burner but werenât sure about the valves. We found it smoky. Also the burner did not spread to the radiators Uke told us it never gets hot enough for the radiators. This is misleading and should be changed in the book. There were 3 storage heaters, but the front door and front window were draughty. We had to wrap up in blankets and scarves to watch tv and put hot water bottles in the beds and cover them with blankets we found under the beds. If we come again it will be in the summer. There was a known plumbing problem. There was a blockage which cleared whilst we were there but we couldnât drink the water from the kitchen tap. It came out white. Luckily the host had left us bottled water so we had to use that. We only stayed 2 nights so we managed.

Super property, great location for shops, caféâs & restaurants.
Milking parlour for ice cream and Botanica for brunch/lunch were fabulous. River walk loop is great for walking dog, although the lack of even a tiny bit of grass for first thing in the morning and last thing at night was a challenge in the rain and no lazy/relaxing starts to the day! A few walks direct from the village, although the saturated ground made these very muddy. A drying rack to hang washing would be appreciated and an updated waste collection calendar useful. The money towards parking after the parking pass expired was appreciated. Lovely holiday enjoyed by all. Oh, and donât forget frequent trips to the Brewery which is dog friendly and also does coffee and cake. Market on Thursdays and proper hot chocolate from the chocolate shop.

Kirkby House had everything we needed and was in an excellent location.
The beds were comfortable and the house was warm, even in the middle of storm Debi. We were three couples and there was plenty of room for us all in the property. Although, like a lot of places in Kirkby Lonsdale, it didnât have a parking space there was a parking pass that could be used at a car park very close by and at other car parks in the surrounding areas. We also parked near the church and a nearby road without any problems. You can also buy a 3 day or 7 day pass for the car parks which were reasonable. Kirkby Lonsdale is a lovely little town with lots of nice places to eat and drink and I would definitely stay at Kirkby House if I came again.
