What our customers say about their holidays
Helen - Verified booking
The property is a nice little place, very convenient for Skipton, the canal walks and shops at your fingertips, and easy access to other areas of Yorkshire.
Nicely laid out, with the added bonus of a small utility/boot room at the back and downstairs toilet. But it could do with a bit of a deep clean. The bathroom especially was very dusty, with a large amount of dust collected on the tiles, nothing a quick hoover round wouldn't fix. I took photos of the dust, so I'm happy to share with the owners if needed. The property could also benefit from some general maintenance and decorating freshening up. In the bedrooms, storage is very minimal, with the small rail in the second double bedroom at the rear hanging off the wall. During our stay it wasn't suitable or safe enough to hang any clothing on and there wasn't any other space to hang clothes so my son had to pretty much live out of a suitcase for the duration of our stay. The smallest single room has no hanging storage at all, and no real usable drawer space, the drawers were only small enough for underwear. There wasn't even a hook on the back of the door, which the other bedrooms had. Even this would have been better than nothing. Some hooks on the wall at the end of the bed, or a rail would be suitable for this smaller room. Also in this room, the bulb had gone in the lamp and we couldn't find any spare ones in the house. I feel like this should have been checked and changed before we arrived, so we couldn't use it during our stay. The hanging rail in the main bedroom had to be shared between all of us, which wasn't ideal for privacy of the guest staying in the large main bedroom. I would also suggest that bigger bath towels are provided as they weren't big enough to go around even the smallest person in our group. Or take your own! The shower could do with moving as it's positioned to the right-hand side of the bath, next to the shower screen, which leaks water onto the floor! The shower isn't easy to use with its positioning. In the kitchen, the integrated fridge was not working, and having to collect fridge items from the stand-alone fridge in the utility area was a bit of a pain. Not sure how long the fridge has been broken for, but long enough for the owners to have typed up a note and put it in the information folder. Parking wasn't a problem for us, it's a very steep hill so make sure your car handbrake is working! One other thing, while we were in during the day, someone arrived to do some work on we assume the step at the rear of the property. We weren't advised that this was happening, and while I was in the kitchen, this man suddenly appeared in the garden/courtyard, filling up a bucket from the outside tap! Whilst this wasn't so much of a problem, if we'd have been sat outside in the courtyard, this could have been very inconvenient. I understand that maintenance needs to be carried out and whilst he didn't enter the actual property, it was a bit of a shock to see a random man out the back. Otherwise, everything else made for a lovely stay.

Mr Brenton - Verified booking
The good: - Great location for Malham and the Pennine Way - Lots of space in living areas and two of the bedrooms - Clean The bad: - Lacking some basics (scissors in the kitchen; saucepans big enough to cook basics for 4) - Very small and compromised bathrooms - In poor state of repair in places (large glass shower door held on with silicone, and fell off; bad smell from drains; TVs in bedrooms not working) - Layout of outdoor space leads to a total lack of privacy in garden (which is shared with the neighbouring cottage). For example, the Hot Tub is placed just a few feet from the one belonging to the neighbouring cottage, meaning no privacy if the neighbours use theirs at the same time. (Especially so if you have neighbours who spend their time smoking, drinking, swearing, shouting and arguing in the hot tub!) We eventually cut our stay short and came home a day early. The owner did offer a partial refund, reflecting some of these issues, but this has never materialised and he has since stopped answering messages asking him to honour his promises.

The cottage is lovely, comfortable and well equipped including excellent wi-fi (though the dryer part of the washer-dryer doesn't work). Burnsall is normally a delightful and tranquil location, its inhabitants are friendly and it is a great place from which to explore a beautiful and interesting area. But on hot days the whole of the surrounding area descends on Burnsall and its river and because the cottage is so central you cannot avoid the feeling that your peace has been disrupted. There are cars everywhere and if you look out of the window you can see lots and lots of people. If you open the window you hear lots of noise sometimes quite late into the night. Local volunteers clear up the appalling rubbish people leave behind them. In conclusion this should have been a five star review. But on warm/hot days in summer the cottage doesn't live up to its description as a rural retreat. So best to come in spring or autumn and you will have a wonderful holiday.

The house was clean and very comfortable in a lovely location with great walks right from the house. Our week was just after the schools went back but we hadn't realised how busy Burnsall was especially at the weekends. The number of TV channels was somewhat limited unless you brought your own Sky card which we weren't told about beforehand. What was more disappointing was that the field behind the property was open as a car park by the farmer with cars and pedestrians walking past the house and we were unable to use the "patio" tables and chairs which were right on the edge of the lane. The farmer who allows parking in his field instructed us to park under the ash tree (not oak!) but didn't mention that birds roost in that tree at night and the car was covered with excrement in the morning with no outside tap to use to clean it off. Apart from these points, we had a lovely week walking by the river with some great pubs nearby.
