What our customers say about their holidays

  • Sharron - Verified booking

We could not have had a more relaxing, stress free, peaceful, toasty warm & Super clean stay.

Rhian & family were on hand if needed, being very responsive to What's app messages. The added Extras were most welcome, Homemade Bake-off Standard cake, Fresh Farm Eggs, Local milk and not forgetting every conceivable kitchen implement you might need. I cooked a roast dinner. Never have I know such a well equipped kitchen- fresh clean tea towels, washing up liquid, laundry capsules, foil, even cake tins & lots more. But the Best thing for us, as a solo traveller with 2 Fur Babies, was the simplicity of the layout & the fully enclosed secure garden, with easy access through patio doors. I felt so very safe with the furs. We only used the ground floor- so we blocked off the Stairway- Rhian is looking into a stair Gate. The cleanliness was exemplary & Reassuring in this Covid World. Fresh, neutral decor. The Heating was adjustable to suit your own needs. The cottage was toasty warm. For the 1st time ever, I had no need for earrplugs! We enjoyed the open plan spacious living. The bathroom is large, shower has very good pressure, with oodles of hot water. Lots of very large Quality fluffy towels too. Our stay was simply wonderful, enhanced by the fact we were 3m from beautiful Church Bay, & Cemlyn Nature Reserve & Cemaes Bay. Pic postcard Moelfre was a little further on, with the Dog friendly Kimnel Arms. We bought fresh tasty milkshakes from the LLefrith Nant Dairy- Vending machines. The Gwesty Gadlys 4* was very welcoming with my dogs, and we had a Lovely Welsh burger. Both venues 4m up the road from Cottage. Nothing to dislike, maybe some might like a full Fridge/Freezer, but Rhian is happy for guests to use her Freezer. All in all a Lovely week recharging our batteries in a magical part of the World. Feeding the chickens and meeting the New Suffolk lamb, (1st on the farm), was a privelege. ThankYou.

The listing was inaccurate and said the property had facilities such as a dishwasher and heating which weren’t included.

Enough wood was provided to get us started when we arrived at the cold property, but that was 4x pieces of damp wood, so obviously not satisfactory. The house has heating, but you have to text the owner when you want it to be switched on and she took ages to respond, then only offered up to one hour of heating to be switched on at a time to “save on the gas”. The cleaner hadn’t refilled the soap dispenser or left any cleaning products for the kitchen. We were told twice that the cleaner would restock these things, but it didn’t happen. We bought our own cleaning products and found that the kitchen sides were filthy and far from hygienic. The coat stand is a health and safety risk as it falls over when anything is hung up. It almost impaled my dog and narrowly missed hitting my partner in the head. While all of the above was poor, the thing that was most dissatisfactory was the response of the owner when we raised the issues with her. Even after telling her that I had been omitted to hospital with a respiratory condition from staying in the property and not having access to heating, she showed a complete lack of empathy and reiterated that the reason for the lack of heating was because it was expensive to pay for the gas to heat the property. We certainly wouldn’t recommend this property and wish we had stayed away. There are lots to choose from in the area, many of which are cheaper than this one, which I think would be much better and run by a reasonable owner.

Whilst the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen were generally acceptable, although not good, the living areas were poorly maintained and in an unacceptable state of cleanliness.

On arrival we had to do a thorough clean of all surface areas, including soft furnishings. There were two sofas, we only sat on one, after surface washing, drying and spraying with dettol upholstery aerosol, the other sofa remained unused. The rocking chair was filthy and need several cleanings and spraying before it could be used. There was a large fresh blood stain on the back of this chair too. All switches and light pulls had to be cleaned, the floor lamp was filthy. Under beds remain dusty. Most of the cobwebs have been removed, but not the large old one between the oven door glass. The Beach Shack was far cleaner after our stay than it was before. The Shack was well ventilated - you could see through gaps in the walls and around all the poorly fitting windows. Two of the three external doors were non-operational. There appears to be a number of attempts to fill small holes around the wooden frame windows with random blotches of white filler, which was then left un-sanded etc. The garden was overgrown, although there was recent evidence of hacking back of the brambles. However, the kitchen utensils and dishes etc were clean and appropriate, the bedding and towels were clean and there were clear instructions re waste disposal. This Beach Shack has obviously been loved in the past and could be lovely again with some care and attention to detail. The location was the Beach Shack's saving grace. It was idyllic, very beautiful beach and excellent country walks.

    Disappointing stay.

The property was unexpectedly cold when we arrived. We were provided with a few pieces of damp wood to get started with the log burner, but it wasn’t enough to even get us through the first night. The house has heating, but the thermostat is kept in a locked box and you have to text the owner when you want it to be switched on. I felt uncomfortable having to ask someone on Whatsapp for the house to be warmed up. For the price I paid I just wanted to stay in a cottage where I could disconnect from being online and using technology for a week, so did not appreciate needing to use WhatsApp to ask to warm up the cold house. The cleaning products and hand soap were empty, which I was told would be addressed with the cleaner but I didn’t hear anything further. We bought our own cleaning products and found that the kitchen sides were dirty. The coat stand fell over when anything was hung up. It almost hit my dog and also narrowly missed hitting my partner in the head on both occasions that we hung something up on it. When communicating with the owner about my concerns above, she just referred to the positive reviews that had been left before and I would have appreciated if more was done to acknowledge my concerns and to rectify the points I had raised.

    Where do I start.

. Very difficult to locate with inaccurate directions and nobody answering the phone to speak to about this! The local shop within 1 mile appears to be closed constantly and shuts daily at 14:00 meaning when you check in at at 15:00 there is nowhere to shop - nearest supermarket is 20 mins away. The shack is held together with temporary repairs and just needs some tlc. We spent the first night deep cleaning the touch points and surfaces. 2 door handles are broken which made using them interesting. Spiders and cobwebs everywhere, including oven (yes that’s that right, the oven). Children and us refused to sit on furniture so purchased some bed sheets to use as sofa covers. Previous guests food was left in fridge, shower also had previous users belongings in. Active wasp nest on the side. Our Dog developed an allergy whilst there which must be dust related. Dog poo left in the garden from previous user. Checked out early. I could go on and on… Been back two weeks and still await feedback and a resolution from Sykes, very disappointed. I will be exploring false advertisement of this holiday
