We booked our stay on the mobile app, and from the images posted, we were led to believe we would be staying in a spacious apartment with nice furnishings and enough space for two. We have realised since checking in that there is only 1 image showing the “apartment” that we were allocated out of approximately 40 images on booking.com, and it is very obvious why. The apartment has barely any space with the bed crammed into the tiny kitchen area There is a window into the communal stairwell with no curtains so privacy is non-existent and the room is lit by the lights from the hallway, so it would be very hard to sleep there There were only two small windows, one a skylight with blinds, the other a window in the kitchen area with no curtains or blinds so light was again an issue We were dissatisfied with the overall cleanliness of the “apartment”, including the fact that there was a small faecal stain in the toilet, presumably from the previous occupant, and that the walls had lots of smudge marks on them Additionally, the toilet rolls supplied had been started by a previous guest (it seems very simple to supply new ones) The roof was incredibly low which meant that it was difficult for my partner to use the toilet while standing, and the bed being pressed so close against the slanted roof meant it would have been impossible for us to use the bed There was no wardrobe, chest of drawers or bedside cabinet to store clothes or charge electrical devices As other reviewers on booking.com have expressed, there is no emergency fire exit from the room, or even the building other than the main entrance Additionally, where its located requires you to travel through a narrow alleyway which felt very unnerving in the dark.

We booked the flat literally at the last minute.
But Katie quickly got the flat ready for us and let us know when it was ready. The instructions for accessing the property were clear. But the flat is tucked away. So, if you canât find the property, itâs at the bottom of Mellbecks at Frankâs Bridge (ask a local). The flat was lovely and warm. The living area comprises of a large and very well-equipped kitchen area, separated from the large and very well-furnished lounge area by a large and very useful kitchen island. The lounge area had a two-person dining table which could seat four people, a large coffee table, a good-sized TV sitting on a sturdy TV unit, and a big, comfortable couch. The toilet/shower room was also a good size with a powerful rainfall shower. The bedroom was a good size too with a built-in wardrobe, bedside cabinets complete with bedside lamps, and dressing table. All of the furniture was of a surprisingly high quality for a rental property. The property was very clean and well-decorated throughout. There is an allocated parking space immediately below the flat, which for us was perfect, as we like to keep an eye on our car. We stayed there for three nights and slept soundly each night. The flat is located approximately a three-minute walk from Market Square and the main road through Kirkby Stephen. We went there because of a classic transport event. The main street was full of vehicles of all shapes and sizes. But because of where the flat is located, we couldnât hear any noise whatsoever from the main road. Would we stay there again? Absolutely.

Location and facilities were as advertised. Plenty of cooking equipment which was in good condition. Large fridge freezer, hob/oven and washing machine all working well and new and clean Check in was from 4pm, I arrived at 4:20 to find that the property was only half cleaned with the linen not changed yet. There was also a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. I rang customer service who responded quickly and advised that the cleaner was running behind due to a previous late checkout but was just in the car park collecting supplies from a car- this was not true as the cleaner was using a van which was not present in the car park. I was advised this would be completed quickly so I left the property, and was told I would be called when the cleaner was done. I received no phone call by 8pm so returned assuming the call had been forgotten- instead I met the cleaner just finishing the cleaning at that point. The smell of cigarette smoke was just as strong. I reported this again via the chat and the host responded that they would try to resolve this the next day. No effort was made to do so, and I received no further communication regarding the smoke for the next 4 days. On this basis I requested that the £50 cleaning fee be refunded. This was not acknowledged and I have not had any further apologies, solutions or compensation regarding the poor experience.

Not a thing when making initial accommodation request i asked if they could make sure the room was as close to ground floor as possible due to my wife's mobile disabilities I gave them ample notice regarding this received no feedback from them numerous phone calls didn't render any positive news had to wait until the very last moment to gleen all relevant information about room plus entry access only to be told room was on third floor no lift we reluctantly took this accommodation when we arrived the climb up those stairs was a nightmare inadequate bannerstairs definate health and safety hazard when we eventually got to room all amenities crammed into small space room was like a sauna with only the skylight available couldn't really open because of seagulls my point hear is that we weren't given opportunity to abort this accommodation by yourselves ie telling us we're not able to grant your request of having your room close to ground floor giving the reasons I highlighted so in that sense you excepted our booking under false pretence we could only stay the one night because of the problems we encountered we had booked for four nights so we had to make alternative arrangements extremely bad communication and without doubt the worse experience we've ever encountered. It was clean and had fresh decor and furnishings. We arrived at Upton House at 10pm at night, which the hosts were aware of, to find the key code given was incorrect and we couldn’t get into the apartment. I contacted the phone number for it initially to go unanswered. Finally we got through to be told repeatedly us not being able to get access to the key was “user error”. They finally accepted there might be a chance the code wasn’t right to ring us back another 10 mins later to give us a different code, which worked. No apology. Given at this point it was nearly 11pm we were relieved to be inside only to then find the temperature in the apartment was at 12 degrees. We adjusted it but it was absolutely freezing and we had to sleep in our clothes to be warm enough. It was horrendous. The following morning I requested a refund and two weeks later after messaging numerous times and being told conflicting information I’m no nearer to getting a resolution. Ultimately, nice apartment but the customer service is terrible. If you don’t want to be left without access and/or freezing and being strung along with lies, find alternative accommodation.
