What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed at East Row lodge in early June and enjoyed the stay as we knew Sandsend really well having stayed many times.
We completed the feedback section when we got back but put this in the hide option as we felt we wanted the owners to have a chance to rectify some concerns we had as overall we had really enjoyed our stay. We were back again at this property at the end of August and found that the concerns had not been dealt with and on looking at the feedback saw that other customers had similar concerns. We wanted to feed these concerns back as we felt this is a terrific property and the stay could have been enhanced so much more with just a few little amendments. Firstly, the toilet in the bathroom had a faulty flush button and when turning the hot taps on in the property the boiler made a very loud noise suggesting maybe air in the system. Secondly we made a suggestion to put black out blinds in the main double bedroom and the annex as the sunlight woke us up very early, it was lovely to get such nice weather! Finally, we mentioned the tap in the garden decking area which is to be used to clean up after visiting the beach before entering into the property. When we were there in June the water had built up as there is no grid and had become stagnant, as it was very warm there were flies hovering over it. A few minor points - there were 2 beach chairs when we visited in June but these were missing in August? The locks on both the main property and the annex could do with oiling. The induction hob was difficult to get on as there was not an instruction to get the safety lock off but thank haven for google! In June we did leave a phone charger plugged into the hall socket but when we reported this we were told it was not there, this was disappointing as we clearly remember where it was. We really enjoyed our stay in the property and it is a great location for the beach and also has a premium parking spot which is a real bonus. We would like to stay there again but the property is looking a bit tired in real life so could do with a little spruce up which would be fantastic! Also these concerns we think would be covered by the maintenance of the property so not difficult to rectify.

The property was lovely and clean.
It's in a fabulous location with lovely views. We had problems with parking, arriving late at night we didn't notice the disc zone sign on the arch as its not lit up. There we no lines o parking restrictions notices on the road where we parked, next to the triangle, so 2 out of our 3 cars got fines. This was also after I rang Steve number, the number supplied on the back of the door to ring if any problems, he said it was OK to park there. He also informed me that he is no longer in charge of the property. The large front room was very cold, the thermostat is in the hall and kept knocking off when the small hall had reached temp. Maybe a suggestion would be to move the thermostat and get some warm curtains to cover the large glass windows. The master bedroom definitely needs larger bedding. It appeared to be a double quilt on a king-size bed. It did not cover us well at all. The instructions to open up the property need to be re wrote. I maybe my mistake, followed the instructions step by step whilst carry out the process, I didn't read ahead. We climb the 4 flights of stairs with our cases to find out then that the key to the appointment was being the drain pipe down stairs. Maybe this could be mentioned first. Parking in the allocated spot is also very very tight to get into and out. Finally I was sent an e mail each day reminding me to strip the beds when we leave. However I do think when paying 360 for a 3 night stay this should be covered in your cleaning cost. Please advise people of the public SBC parking opposite for ove rnight extra parking at £10. 50 for 24 hours it's much cheaper than the 2 parking fines we received. It's a lovely spacious appointment and very very clean, we appreciated the games and had great fun playing them, we also left pne of our games to add to the collection as we had such fun with your games. Thank you

We had a great stay at Ellerby lane house.
The positives were great location, lovely decor, very homely. The cleanliness was very good. The negatives were the beds were very hard so quite uncomfortable, there was no mirrors in the bedrooms so doing make up was a bit of a struggle. The property capacity is for 7 people but there wasnât 7 plates or 7 sets of cutlery as we were there for Christmas and was cooking Christmas dinner in the property we had to go and buy some as there was no contact number provided for the owners for if we needed anything. There is also no parking at the property which isnât uncommon for Whitby but I think it should be listed on the listing as it wasnât easy unloading our stuff parked on double yellows on the side street and we wasnât given any instructions prior, I had to call Sykes cottages to contact the owners to see where we could unload. It was also a little noisy at night time if you were trying to sleep and could hear people heading back from the pub, again not a major issue but the location is very central so could be a little noisy if you plan on taking babies etc. The toilet seat was also broken in the main bathroom and some of the blinds were broken so couldnât be opened. There is also no exterior bins for the property so as you can imagine being Christmas we had a lot of rubbish which we had to bag up and pile up near the entrance of the property for it to be collected by the owners. Besides all that it is a lovely place to stay, very cosy and the location really is perfect for exploring Whitby.

Oh dear, where do I start.
This property was advertised as a luxury apartment, what a misleading statement! We stayed from the 7th - 21st September 2024 (unfortunately we could not leave without staying as the previous people who left a review stated, I hope they can get their money back) one of the ladies is elderly and in quite delicate health and was unable to travel any further, we had driven from Gwynedd, North Wales, and having paid for the apartment, couldn't afford to pay for anywhere else. We decided we would have to stay and clean as we went along, you do not expect to have to buy disinfectant and cleaning equipment and work when staying in supposed luxury, the cleaners need to be replaced by someone who can do a decent job. We complained to Yorkshire cottages who were very helpful and provided a replacement microwave for the disgusting filthy one left in the kitchen, which had been mentioned in previous reviews but nothing had been done about, the rest of the problems we encountered they unfortunately could not help with as they are the responsibility of the owner. The cleanliness and maintenance of the property is disgusting especially as this is supposed to be a luxury apartment. There are too many safety issues, faults and complaints to list here, we will be sending a detailed list to Sykes/Yorkshire Cottages so they are aware of the problems and can take appropriate action.

Beautiful quirky old apartment, felt like we were in a sailing ship! So well placed for lovely cafes and restaurants in Church St, Bridge St and surrounds - brunch at Mr Cooper's Coffee House and dinner at The Edge and Cosa Nostra were particular highlights. Close to the Abbey, and just a short walk across the bridge to the town and beach. Really well equipped, spacious rooms. The only downside for us was noise from seagulls (but it is a seaside town!) and reversing delivery lorries outside in the early morning - the only reason for marking down on comfort. Parking is a real challenge in Whitby, we had 2 cars and ended up parking for the full week in the small council car park in Church St just a 5 minute walk away. We didn't manage to find any W spaces, and they were more of a walk away anyway. It was around £10 per day for the car park and saved the stress of trying to re-park after being out and about. EV chargers there were regularly blocked by ICE cars but I did manage to charge. We walked around Whitby, took the bus to Robin Hood's Bay for £2 each way and had a trip on the NYM Railway. The bus and train station are very easy to get to on foot and we would have likely used public transport for any other outings. Whitby is lovely for a short break.
