What our customers say about their holidays
Melanie - Verified booking
This Spa could be so much more.
I really don't know where to start. My stay consisted of myself, husband child of 12 and 2 elderly parents (in their 80s). After a speedy, courteous check in we were shown by map where our lodge was situated, (note to anyone with a disability the parking can sometimes be a distance from the car parking area to you lodge) was even more of a headache when you have to unpack and make 10 journeys with all you luggage!! Initial look of the lodges and surroundings were really lovely, and well presented. However when we started to unpack and put things away, we immediately noticed that the kitchenette, that is advertised is merely a micorwave/cooker toaster and kettle (how you are supposed to prepare a meal in this was mindboggling), that said there were insufficient plates, bowls etc, no larger bowls to cook anything in microwave/cooker, no chopping boards, sharp knives, wooden spoons, even a tea towels was none existent etc you get the picture like nothing!! I asked reception for these utensils - response was microwave was solely for warming food up?! I did state that it was a microwave/cooker but was informed that they didn't have anything like this, we were given more crockery, and they tried with larger pasta bowls but that was it. We then noticed we didn't have any robes to use the spa, so again went to reception and asked, housekeeping did bring some along and apologised stating they would bring some of the slippers the next day, this never happened! The lodge looked dirty cobwebs in the shower areas, cigarette butts where the hot tub is (at the back of the lodge), there was a brush and dust pan no hoover to clean any spills up. I asked housekeeping how did we get our towels changed I was informed that we had to ask for housekeeping and they would sort this. This never happened. In my parents room there was no blind/curtains at their bedroom window - not what you want when undressing etc - again went to reception this was rectified the next day. The mess from the drilling on the wall was never cleaned away bits of brick dust etc on the floor and nothing to clean it away with again asked for housekeeping never came. Now into day 2 of our 7 night stay and we had a blocked drain in our walk in shower room, the water was pouring into the lounge area, which we had to mop up with towels, my husband spoke to 4 members of staff over 2 days to ask for this to be rectified, and for all the dirty towels to be removed and given clean ones - shower drain was eventually unblocked however the towels were simply pushed into the other corner of the bathroom and no clean ones replace nor did the housekeeping clean the bathroom from the dirty water!! I had to carry all the dirty towels to reception collect clean ones and raise my concern that this was not good enough! We again spoke to staff that they was a leak on the kitchen sink and the en-suite bathroom sink no-one came, and to be honest got sick of going back and forwards to ask for clean towels. At no one given time did any member of housekeeping refresh clean towels, mop the floors hoover around or remove the rubbish ( I may add that there was nowhere to place you household rubbish so once again my husband had to carry and find a larger kitchen bin which was situated around the kitchen area of the spa)!! At the end of our stay another visitor had disposed of there household rubbish pizza boxes etc was strewn all over the lawns in front of us and seagulls and birds were feeding at a frenzy! There was ants and on our 5 night stay when looking at how bad the leak was under the kitchen sink, noticed we had had a visitor in the form of a mouse!! The spa itself was lovely and so were the staff we had encountered, however our stay was really spoilt due to the lack of cleanliness, and constant back and forth with reception. Would never return no would I recommend.

Overall I would rate this a 7/10.
Many positives. Lovely location spectacular views very well appointed kitchen all appliances working etc. What I feel it could benefit from: oven gloves, sweeping brush (long handle) and egg cups . The sofa albeit a very expensive designer piece itâs now time to replace. Itâs designed for looks and not comfort. Itâs also starting to split and it is heavily stained and does smell a bit. The chairs in the kitchen/dinning are also in need of replacing. They are sagging when you sit on them. Overall it was hard to find anywhere to sit and relax comfortably in this property. The outside seating was far more comfortable. I would say this is marketed at high end I would have expected better quality pillows and bedding. (Asda, budget pillows, synthetic bedroom rugs) The mattress in the double bedroom (non floating) may also now need replaced. It has 2 toppers and itâs still not that comfy. I would also keep in mind this location is very rural and you need to factor that into your daily driving. Once you get your bearings there is a pub a short stroll away but it doesnât seem to do food and is limited opening (September) which may be seasonal. We dinned at the lobster Pot that was lovely and I would recommend this. The cafe at the beach is also very good although only open certain days. There is so much to do and see in the area and surrounds. For example we spent a lovely day at the Hidden Garden (lunch was a rip off £2.50 for a can of juice and soup and a sandwich £12.95 literally two prices of bread with a slice of ham ) take your own sandwich or eat in the actual town as there is a lot of lovely cafes worth trying. There are lots of beaches to explore and the national park etc. we were very fortunate with the weather. Overall we had a pleasant experience visiting Wales.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks here in late June.
We had not been to Anglesey before and the situation of the property is superb, in a calm location with distant sea views, and was enhanced by the great weather. The property itself is well arranged and well equipped in the main. However, the Ligne Roset sofa set is a triumph of form over function, requiring as it does one to sit only a foot from the floor making getting up more difficult than necessary. It also has some ominous stains on its surface and smells of dog, as does the Henry vacuum cleaner when you use it. Dog lovers may not notice or worry about this, but we did not find this pleasant. The solar gain from the extensive windows is immense which is why we are advised to keep the blinds down at all times, which rather defeats the object of the wonderful views provided by the outlook. The polished concrete floors look impressive but are a serious safety hazard when the entrance doormat slides away on its surface as you set foot on it since there is no anti-slip device under it. We removed it for the duration. Apart from that we had a super holiday and there is a lot to see in the vicinity. The Lobster Pot Inn a short distance away is very good, if expensive, and the little Church Bay, within walking distance is attractive, although seemingly a magnet for dog lovers who allow their dogs free-range at all times. As you will have gathered we are not dog owners and therefore possibly have a more detached and objective view - others may not agree.

Having planned to take my elderly mother from Newport, Shropshire, for a week's holiday with my sister in Abergavenny, I suddenly found myself needing to make alternative arrangements when we heard that my sister had become unwell.
It was too short notice to book online, so I called Sykes who checked and established that my initial two choices of properties couldn't be made available in time, but the staff were very helpful, calling me back and suggesting others I could look at. My third attempt was The Old Cow Barn near Laugharne and we made the 150 mile journey that same Monday afternoon for a 5-night stay. We arrived after dark and were delighted to find this cluster of three converted barns surrounding a courtyard area beautifully illuminated with strings of colourful led lights and dancing Christmassy images projected upon the white walls of the barns. It was a jolly and welcoming sight. Upon entering the barn, we were further warmed to see a lovely lighted Christmas tree and other festive decorations - and a very nice welcome pack on the table. The furnishing is simple, cosy and well-thought out, with lots of lovely beams, a gorgeous mezzanine floor with its twin bedroom and own bathroom in addition to the two ground floor bedrooms and wet room. My other sister and brother in law joined us for three days and we all really loved this holiday home. The owners were really kind and helpful, too, and we could not fault the hospitality. We also enjoyed exploring Laugharne, as well as Tenby and Carmarthen which are within easy reach by car. We would definitely recommend Sykes and the Laugharne Barns to anyone considering a holiday in this region.

I filled in an on line form as soon as I arrived.
I also rang the owner. The description on your website is incorrect. If it had been a correct description of the layout I would not have booked it. It says on the ground floor thereâs a downstairs bedroom leading to the living room which leads to the kitchen, and thereâs three bedrooms on the first floor. So I booked it because Iâm disabled and use a wheelchair so everything was on the ground floor for me. But it wasnât. The kitchen was upstairs so totally ruined Christmas for us as I only went upstairs when two people carried me which was unsafe. One of the elderly couples decided they couldnât come when I told them about the layout of the property because they originally assumed theyâd only have to go upstairs at bedtime. So the cost had to be divided between two parties instead of three, which we wouldnât have paid if weâd known about it. Your website also states fuel provided so we didnât take wood, it wasnât provided so Christmas Eve had to go looking for wood. Contacted the owner who said he would have to contact Sykes about fuel being provided. Also said to him, as itâs Christmas we thought thereâd be a Christmas tree up, his reply was I live in Chester, Iâm useless (referring to himself). There wasnât even a piece of tinsel. The downstairs wet room leaked onto the bedroom floor, and we couldnât turn the heating off so had to go round turning radiators on and off.
