  An absolutely delightful location. We chose this cottage because it is detached & away from the main road, surrounded by lawns, and we like somewhere quiet and away from other people's noise - it lived up to expectations perfectly. Gorgeous outlook from the windows onto mature trees and Rhododendrons. Very relaxing. What beautiful grounds and environment to roam around in too. We had full control over the central heating, and it worked very efficiently, and on demand, when we wanted it. There was continuously available hot water. We also picked this property because we like to have a bath. So many other's don't, and we struggle to find places we like because of this. If the bathroom is ever updated, please, please keep a bath included! Some of us still like to rest & rejuvenate our tired legs while sitting back in a hot bath after a day's exploring, and it was so good (and essential) to be able to soothe arthritic pains in the hot water. The provision of Arran Aromatics toiletries was a real luxury, and our favourite - so enjoyed to the full! The contents of the very generous welcome basket was such a surprise - it included bread, lemon drizzle cake & biscuits (which to our delight were all home-made), eggs & jam. This place is like a dream, so comfortable & cosy, and we can't wait to come back again. The time we had was not long enough. So many places to visit - the Mull of Galloway, Logan Botanical Gardens, Castle Kennedy Gardens, and we'd especially recommend a visit Glenwhan gardens - our favourite! We also went to Culzean Castle - had a wonderful time there (a bit further afield, but well worth it), and beautiful Glentrool is not far away (the visitor centre there does wonderful fresh, home-made scones, not to be missed!). The Isle of Whithorn also has a lovely tearoom overlooking the sea, Garlieston also has a nice tearoom overlooking the bay. In Newton Stewart, we liked the Riverside Cafe the best. We didn't do much in the Galloway Forest Park, so we have lots to come back for another time.

  We stayed with our daughter and two friends for a week.

  The house was spacious, clean, warm, comfortable and a delight to stay in. The setting is idyllic with panoramic views over Black Mill Bay and the sound to the islands of Scarba and Lunga with Jura in the distance. The house really is a home from home and as well as, or better, equipped than most family homes, we did not want for anything or feel that anything was lacking. Thoughtfully, there was a bowl of fruit, plus milk and tea waiting for us on arrival. Tooti made us very welcome and has given the house a very special feeling, even putting binoculars in the sun room to help enjoy the views and wildlife. The area is quiet and walker-friendly, the roads are good and easy to take a wheelchair or pushchair along. The hills are of moderate height and easy to navigate away from the tracks to enjoy the views to the west and to catch the sunset over the sea and small islands in the direction of Mull. Wild flowers, orchids and cotton grass abound on the slopes overlooking the sea. We saw an otter in Black Mill Bay near the old jetty, seals near Cullipool, deer and a fox about a mile north of Ardlarach Lodge. Luing cattle and sheep roam the area giving it a special feel. A boat trip down the sound and around Lunga with Alistair from Cullipool was particularly enjoyable. We only left the island twice in the week, just walking around and enjoying the peace, looking at the flowers and wildlife, taking pictures and coming back to the comfortable house. Bliss!

  We arrived at West Lodge on the Penninghame estate late in the evening after a long day of travel and it immediately felt like a relaxing place to be. It was equipped with everything that we would need and the rooms were all different and comfortable. Waking up the following morning in the wonderful grounds of the estate was a real pleasure and the whole family felt at ease and ready to have a real holiday. The layout of the lodge allowed for us all to get together when we wanted to but also allowed for people to have their own space without making others uncomfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use without being cluttered with devices that we could not work out how to use. Very little went wrong while we were staying at the lodge but when we needed something to be changed the staff (who were all friendly and helpful) on the estate reacted almost immediately and without making a big thing out of it. Penninghame is a lovely place to be with its grounds and access to the forest for walking and cycling and it is in a part of Scotland where the scenery is breath-taking and the people are just so friendly. Our overall opinion at the end of the holiday was that we could not wait to come back again.

  We absolutely loved this cottage!

  The views were so good that we were quite reluctant to go out and about! It was nice watching the boats sailing by, the changing sky , sea and weather and we had some beautiful moonlit nights while we were there. We also saw a few brown hares lolloping about. The house was extremely comfortable (I would like to know what the pillows were for our own holiday rental property in the south of France!)and it was really well equipped. So peaceful and quiet (occasional mooing) Bit random but I loved the dry stone walls on the property and also the hydrangeas. We enjoyed the Atlantic centre in Cullipool for lunch/ cakes/ coffee and on our last day had a lovely two hour boat trip from Oban (Oban sea tours) during which we saw some seals and were treated to a view of two sea eagles perched on trees on the coast of Mull. One day we also visited Dunstaffnage castle which boasted fabulous views and then had some wonderful fish and chips in Oban sat watching the ferries and boats.(recommend the 'Oban fish and chip shop') All in all ten out of ten.   Fantastic lodge and beautiful location.

  The lodge was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. There were 2 couples in our party and there was lots of room for sitting and relaxing after a day out exploring. All of the bedrooms were so spacious, we had the big downstairs bedroom that had the massive walk in shower next door which was great. The outdoor space is ideal and we still managed to sit outside even when it was raining thanks to the covered section. Phone signal is pretty none existent but that’s what I would expect being in a remote location but the WiFi was fine for general browsing on the internet The location is great with so many beautiful walks either from the lodge or just a short drive away. The nearby river is perfect if you fancy a cold dip and the Glenmore area had some fantastic walks with stunning views of the mountains and there’s lots of Lochs nearby of various sizes (Loch Eileen was lovely) Aviemore is only a 15 to 20 minute drive away and has a small Tesco and an Aldi for stocking up on supplies Would definitely recommend and would stay again for sure.
