What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage itself is excellent and we enjoyed our stay.
It is comfortable and well equipped. The location is great. It is against all the many positives that with regret I am leaving what may be seen as negative feedback. I am sorry to do this. The main thing for me was that the cottage was not as clean as I would expect. There were large dusty cobwebs in the living room around the furniture and lamps and across the window and in one of the bedrooms. It is the only time I can recall having to reach for a feather duster shortly after arrival. The floor was not properly clean. A highchair had been left out and there was dirt around it and just under the cupboard and other furniture. Worse still there were lots of large cobwebs hanging in two of the base cupboards and immediately hanging down as you opened the doors. You couldnât get into the cupboard. Feather dusting kitchen cupboards was a first for me. Some of the crockery was dirty and had not been checked. The two frying pans need replacing. They both stick horribly as the non stick surface has worn off. The handle on one wobbles so much it feels like it will fall off. The side panels of the bath are dirty and need cleaning. The bathroom door is very swollen and sticks horribly. It needs to be freed. The bathroom is otherwise really well fitted with quality appliances and a good shower. It is such a pity. The toilet brush was broken and unusable with the handle completely detached. How did the cleaners not notice? The absence of a useable toilet brush was unacceptable. I am really sorry to have to give what will seem like negative comments. I really didnât want to do this. The cottage is great but the quality of cleaning detracted from it. We felt the cottage and owners were let down by this.

We were quite amused and bemused by the 'Welcome Pack'. This consisted of a small cardboard box holding a J-cloth, plastic rubbish bag, small scourer, miniature container of washing up liquid, 3 dishwasher tablets and 3 plastic sachets of laundry soap {of which there were plenty already under the sink}. In all our previous holiday cottages the welcome packs were geared to the guests rather than cleaning up! There was a basket with tea, coffee and sugar sachets, and some small biscuits, plus 5 miniature bottles of milk in the fridge which was fine. In spite of the folder saying there would be, there was no initial supply of logs for the woodburner. Fortunately the extra boost function on the central heating made the cooler evenings more comfortable. On the website mention was made of the back garden backing on to surrounding fields - you could just about see one part of one field. Secondly, mention was also made of the chairs and table at the front of the property which would make a lovely place to sit - only if you were prepared to put up with the extremely noisy water treatment plant next to you which operated 24 hours a day. We're afraid that these two descriptions are reminiscent of estate agent speak when describing the property.

The property is situated in a perfect location 2 minutes from Sandsend sea front.
You do need to climb a few steps to get there though the quaint cottages in the location. On entering the property you enter the kitchen and living room area which are spacious and very well equipped with everything you would need on holiday, including a washing machine, dish washer, slow cooker and coffee pod machine. There are three bedrooms on the next two levels and one bathroom on level two and an en suite on level three. You can see the sea from level three. The beds were very comfy! The garden is levelled and a lovely space with a sea view from the top of the garden. We watched the sun rise from here on one of the days. The property is in a perfect location and you can see Whitby Abbey in the distance. There is a lovely Wits End Cafe 2 minutes one way and The Hart Inn pub 2 minutes the other way. There is on road parking but this is limited, although we were lucky every day that we stayed and managed to get a space. There is a public car park only a minute away though. Unsure of charges. In all I would recommend this property but do think it would benefit from a deep Clean to freshen it up. No complaints from us and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Whitby.

Good location within 10 mins walk into main town/attraction area.
Free street parking right outside and the streets nearby, if there are any spaces. We did find a space, so we had no problem. The property itself was generally good and spacious. The kitchen had a huge dining table with all the necessary cutlery, cups and plates. However, there were a few negative things. We couldn't figure out how to control the heating. We went when it was really warm and the radiators were still heating up. One side of the toaster started smoking, so it should be replaced. The washing machine didn't have drying function, so wouldn't be useful unless you were staying there for like a week. The bathroom skylight window was right above the toilet and had no blinds. It is on the top floor and maybe no one can see, but still felt weird and exposed at night time with the light on. There were 2 huge TV's in the top bedroom and the sitting room downstairs, and both did not receive any channels so they were useless. Only the little TV in the kitchen worked with a few channels.

A lovely cottage and generally very well equipped with super comfortable beds and thick fluffy towels. However the hot water was dangerously hot and would have presented a real danger to small children. It was annoying to have to rearrange the kitchen cupboards in order to store our food, there was no reason to fill every cupboard with cottage equipment when we managed to fit them more logically and efficiently. Another problem was the oven glove supplied,a lovely thought but it was so thin we had burnt fingers. It would have been nice to have been told about the mouse traps not because we have a problem with them but so as to not leave dead mice for 2 weeks. The light switches are far to complex, we never did work out how to switch on the outside lights, which was annoying now that the clocks have gone back, some labelling would have been most helpful as would a light further up the garden in what is otherwise a very dog friendly cottage.
