What our customers say about their holidays
Catherine - Verified booking
We stayed at Calliope House for my husbandâs 50th birthday during half term and had a lovely few days with friends of ours and their son, and our daughter.
Itâs a beautiful town house in a great location, within easy walking distance to everything Whitby has to offer. The bedrooms on the first floor, and the sitting room on the ground floor, were very comfortable and beautifully furnished. We chose the property in part because of the large kitchen: weâre all into good food, and cooking and knew weâd be eating in for the three nights we were there. Unfortunately our third and final night was marred through lack of appropriate pots for the induction hob. This wouldnât have been so much of a problem if I hadnât spent a fortune on lobster and crab from the local fishmongers for a special 50th birthday supper. There was a pan big enough to accommodate cooking pasta for six people, but unfortunately it, and the other smaller pan, didnât work on the induction hob so I was unable to cook the pasta and meal Iâd prepared. Weâd been able to use the induction hob successfully with the frying pans provided but Iâm shocked the kitchen was stocked with appliances that couldnât be used on the hob. As this was our final night and we only realised the issue in the final throes of trying to prepare a birthday feast, it was pointless trying to contact the owners. Itâs a real shame as it ruined the meal. Think lobster and crab linguine without the linguine. Our only other feedback would be to provide door stoppers. We came with our small and well behaved dog, who likes company at all times. Unfortunately the sitting room and snug doors appear to be old, heavy fire doors, which would always close fully. This meant we couldnât leave the doors ajar, so inevitably the dog would bark if I was on my own and left the room for a few minutes. Itâs also a shame that the house is missing a guest book. It would have been lovely to read othersâ recommendations of where to visit, recommendations for local activities, fish and chips etc. All this said, we would probably re-book but next time Iâd bring my own saucepan and door stopper!

The cottage was absolutely beautiful!
It exceeded our expectations in every way. The cottage itself is wonderful, very spacious, very comfortable. Absolutely spotless when we arrived. Had everything we needed for our stay. It was the little touches that made it all the more impressive, all the furnishings were high quality, the kitchen and dining room were fully equipped with everything to make our stay enjoyable. Had a wonderful time in the games room and in the hot tub! And I have to say extra special thank you for dressing the cottage up so festively for Christmas! We were blown away when we first arrived, the whole property looked absolutely beautiful (so much so that my 2 year old son referred to it as the "magic house" all week). The time and effort gone into dressing the house for Christmas was amazing and we were all very impressed. And an extra thank you for the welcome pack when we arrived - that was wholly unexpected but made the whole holiday that extra bit special. Communicating with the owners was also friendly and quick to respond to our queries. Cannot fault the place at all and can't recommend highly enough. Would definitely book again! Huge thank you! :)

This is a great house in a lovely part of Whitby. The tall terraced house has lots of room spread over four floors. We particularly liked the lounge with its views over Whitby and the kitchen which is well laid out for a group of friends to cook together and chat. We also used the front terrace a lot and enjoyed the steam train going by a few times a day. The house is close enough to town to pop in to get provisions and is no more than 15 minutes walk to one of the best beaches in the U.K. Railway chippy did excellent fish and chips. The Cod Roe is an excellent local fishmonger just a few minutes walk away. The local cycling is excellent. Hilly but roads in good condition. The cinder track to Scarborough is great and is quite flat and ideal for a mountain or gravel bike. Would also recommend the Bull Inn in Ugthorpe and any of the Esk Valley villages of Egton, Grosmont, Goathland, Lealholm, Sleights, Ruswarp (good garden centre and cafe) etc. Coastal villages of Staithes, Sandsend and Robins Hood Bay are great but loads of others to visit.

What a beautiful property in a fabulous location.
We had a fantastic time. There were two families and there was plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen/diner is very spacious and the two reception rooms are great for giving the kids and adults space away from each other. There is a really useful boot room off one of the reception rooms which is great for bikes, shoes etc. The bedrooms are very comfortable and relaxing. The children loved being self-contained on the top floor. But the real star of the show for us was the garden terrace which is a lot bigger than it looks in the photo and is such a lovely spot to sit in for a lazy breakfast and for sharing a drink and a meal in the evening. We were really lucky with the weather so spent both nights sitting there by the fig tree and scented jasmine - bliss! We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends and family.

I gave this 5 stars because there was very little that could be added to make the stay even more perfect for us.
I loved where it was positioned on the holiday park - it was so quiet and peaceful. We loved watching the rabbits in the morning and evenings. I stayed with my 19 year old daughter, and 14 year old son (who turned 15 whilst we were there). It was perfect for us because we didn't want to use the park facilities particulaly, only the fish and chip takeaway, the ice-cream place and the Nisa mini-supermarket. We thought it could benefit from some big spaghetti bowls and some side lamps. Apart from that it was perfect. A big and comfy seating area. Comfy beds. Generous supply of tea and coffee. Soft bedding. Car parking right next to caravan. And great to be between Filey and Scarborough, so we could visit our family and friends! If you have younger children I would highly recommend the park facilities, of play ground, swimming pool and much more!
