What our customers say about their holidays
Ken - Verified booking
Ourselves and two friends enjoyed our week in this new property which was in a pleasant countryside location and within reasonable distance of places to visit in East Yorkshire.
We did manage to find the lodge, despite the directions referring to a right turn when it should have been left. We understand that others may have been going to the wrong farms. The standard of the property was as expected from the images and the price we paid. That said, we had a problem with the shower room flooding and that was very disappointing and inconvenient when we were there for a whole week. The friendly owner was concerned and was to speak to his builder. There was no quick fix for us and we think shower doors are needed for both showers. The description failed to mention the dishwasher and so that was a pleasant surprise. Be aware that the âdouble roomâ is a double and not a king size bed as we would have hoped for in a property of this standard. We made the booking knowing that there was not a washing machine and drier. This was less than we would normally expect when staying for a week, even just for the purpose of freshening towels and especially with the flooding shower room. We wonder if the owner has had poor advice on this.

We had a wonderful few days in Skylark.
The lodge was extremely clean, well equipped and comfortable. We had all we needed for a very enjoyable stay. We cooked all our evening meals at the lodge and found everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. The showers were luxurious, and the wood fired hot tubs were a highlight for us all. For constructive feedback, perhaps adding blackout lining to the bedroom curtains would help for lengthier sleeping as the huge windows are wonderful but let a lot of light in! Also, more information about bins, recycling etc may have been useful. The amount of suggestions for places to go was brilliant! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. To have the hot tub ready to go when we arrived was wonderful, and such a nice touch. A very generous hamper on arrival was amazing. A fantastic lodge, thank you.

We enjoyed our stay over Christmas but would have liked to be able to turn the heating temperature up or down ourselves.
We would have stayed in the hot tub longer if it was warmer but it cooled down very quickly. We had to clean the drawers and hoover the main bedroom as it was dirty/hairy. We had to wash the bedding in the main bedroom as it smelt stale/smokey. The main bedroom quilt has a stain of some kind on it. The wardrobe downstairs in the hallway had a drawer which was full of slippers/flip flops/clothing so was not able to use it. When we cleaned the main room floor we found under the table was very dirty and under the settee when we angled it for watching tv. The hoover did not keep its charge to be able to hoover one room, we had to charge it continuously which is not good enough when taking pets or in general. We still enjoyed our stay and it is in a lovely setting but just wanted to offer constructive advice.

We spent a lovely long weekend at Hollowgill Barn in December 2022.
Incredible doesn't begin to describe it. The open plan upper floor is perfect for spending time together, with no one having to seclude themselves from the rest of the group to cook. Speaking of cooking - the kitchen is incredibly well stocked. Anything one could imagine needing is right there, and then some. The bedrooms are lovely, with great views out over the fields again, the beds are incredibly comfortable, the showers great. It is lovely waking up surrounded by the sheep in the fields, and you only have to step out of your door to start a great walk through the Cumbrian countryside. With Sedbergh only being a 10 minutes drive away for your shopping, you'll not want for anything. There's really we can fault about our stay at Hollowgill Barn, you definitely won't regret booking.

Like a Tardis, and excellently thought through. This lovely remote lodge is more of a home than a lodge. It easily accommodated 4 (um) shall I say, bigger than average adults. Well kitted out with things cleverly in the right place, I felt it has more than a touch of class. A great place if you like walking or if you prefer driving and visiting places, it is central to many popular attractions. Often you have an expectation, before you stay in our this exceeded ours. We would happily stay again. One find we had was Huttons in Earl Soham (posh village). It is a butcher/cafe/cheese counter / mini supermarket. Well worth a visit for a breakfast bap and coffee on a nice day. You will see what I mean.
