What our customers say about their holidays

Charming house, beautiful location, highly recommend.
We just returned from a wonderful Christmas stay at Waterside House. Every other year we try and find a house to accommodate our extended family and finding a large, luxurious home is not always easy. This home did not disappoint. The house is beautifully situated with a view from every room. Helen had decorated for the Holidays so, while the weather was not the kindest (thank you Storm Gerrit), the smell of pine, log fires and comfy couches more than made up for it. The whole house was cosy and very Christmassy - just as we'd hoped! The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment, plates, pots and pans for any level of chef and between the aga and electric oven, we had no issue making Christmas dinner for 16. There was plenty of room for all of us and we enjoyed the game room, the TV snug and gathering for games in the gorgeous main living room. Having 7 ensuite bedrooms really gave everyone privacy and space and it was nice that the 8th bedroom was on the ground floor (with a bathroom a few steps away) for anyone who can't easily manage stairs. Helen met us at the property and took time to walk us through and answer any questions. She was also responsive via text, answering quickly and provided great information about the local area. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the lake, the proximity to good pubs and National Trust properties. In summary, it is a wonderful house for a family gathering, for Christmas or any other vacation, and I highly recommend booking a stay at Waterside House.

We came to The Boathouse as a honeymoon after our wedding. We were absolutely blown away by the location, it is so peaceful and absolutely full of wildlife. As a couple who are interested in watching all kinds of birds and animals, it was beautiful to simply look out of your window and see it all. Some of these including the kingfisher, bats and hearing owls during the evening. Where we stayed was dog friendly and the area the boathouse is in, is fenced all around. This meant that we could relax and let her run around the area without having to worry. In the property there were amenities for both ourselves and the dog, which was a really nice touch. Even the dog enjoyed waking early in the morning and watching the birds from the bed. The owners were very approachable and would check in to see how we were doing. They had left suggestions of local dog walks and places we could eat, which was very handy. Not to mention upon arrival, they had purchased bread from the local bakery, milk, eggs, crisps, homemade strawberry jam and butter. Little touches like this made us feel right at home! In terms of the things to do within the property, there is a lovely bath in the bedroom and a hot tub outside with views of the surrounding countryside. We would highly recommend and will be returning here ourselves!

Welcome pack was excellent , the bed itself was very comfortable, and the hot tub itself was great and the location for walks was relaxing. However, there was only one breakfast cereal bowl which was a bit strange and very few utensils like table spoons and serving spoons so it was hard to serve anything up using small spoons, and there should be more tea cups as three is not enough. The TV should be bigger and the sofa smaller as we had to keep moving it to either open the doors or turn it to watch the TV. One major issue is the safety, you do not mention in the write up that it could be unsuitable for the older person or people with mobility problems, the stairs to get into the property are quite steep and if someone has a suitcase and is not so mobile this could be an issue. Getting into the hot tub could also have an impact as the steps are low and there is not a handrail. The bath also needs a handrail to get in and out of or change it for a shower cubicle which would be better and to get into the far side of the bed is also difficult. But for us it was fine but I can see potential problems with some but with some changes could be better.

We feel so lucky to have found The Garden Room. Itâs the perfect little bolthole for a peaceful escape. Nestled in a secret location in a tiny village near an ancient church with a 1000-year old yew tree, itâs totally private. The cosy room has everything you need - itâs absolutely immaculate and beautifully appointed with a well-equipped kitchen and snuggly linens. The hot tub is absolutely superb - properly hot and spacious with powerful roiling bubbles. We visited in late October and the weather was appalling, so we couldnât enjoy the delightful garden as much as we would have liked, but it was lovely to gaze out onto. We did get out on one wonderful circular hike between downpours with our little dog up to Ditchling Beacon from a public footpath just yards from the door - gorgeous views at the top. The generous welcome treats were well beyond our expectations - we are so grateful and we didnât even have to go out shopping for basics after arriving! Great pub food, groceries and beaches are just a short drive away. We definitely plan to return.
