What our customers say about their holidays

  • Lucinda - Verified booking

Please note - I raised these issues with Sykes whilst we were there, along with providing photos and it is being looked in to (ref COR-409700-CF).

The lodge itself is a little tired and certain areas do require more attention in terms of cleanliness. The dust in the radiator as soon as you walk in, and also in the radiator behind the sofa, has months worth of dust, dirt and dog hair in it - this dust also evident around pictures hung up and especially around the vents in the bathroom! There is an intermittent foul smell coming from the drains and bathrooms, not constant but we definitely smelt it daily. With it being Christmas we didn’t want too much disruption having to move, so we managed as it was but the standards of cleanliness were really not good. The blind in the living room was broken when we got there and we were left instruction not to use it, also the mirror in the main bedroom wardrobe is cracked (you do know about this as there is an awareness sticker on it). There is a cracked floor tile in the bathroom and loose tiles as you walk in the bathroom door, this poses a big hazard to us having a toddler! We don’t mind paying an over inflated price for Christmas week however the overall standards of the lodge do really need to be improved. We always come away to whitecross bay over Christmas and have stayed in far cleaner and nicer lodges for the same money. We won’t be back to this lodge again.

This was our 2nd time we have stayed at this lodge.

The location is beautiful, in a lovely cul-de-sac and plenty of space for parking. The decking has a lovely new table and chairs & the spindles around the decking have recently been replaced. Hot tub is a bonus & was lovely and hot the whole time. The lodge is very spacious & modern. Kitchen has loads of utensils, crockery & glassware! It has a dishwasher & washing machine also which is great. The bedrooms are spacious & both the bathroom & ensuite were lovely. The only thing that puts this lodge down is the cleaning. The beds, kitchen units etc were immaculate but when you looked around there were cobwebs & spiders, skirting boards look like they haven't been cleaned in a good few months. Down the side of the bedside tables in the master bedroom, there is loads of dust that has clearly been building up for some time. I know this is not the owners fault as they are clearly updating the lodge (new spindles & outdoor furniture since last year) but the level of cleaning will put some people off and this would be a shame for such a lovely lodge! Last year the level of clean was so much better & that was in the summer school holidays. If this had been our 1st stay we maybe would not rebook, but due to previous stay we will be back!

Mary and Bertie were very nice hosts for our week.

The cottage is just as the listing describes. It sits a little bit out of the village of Cartmel, so is a little bit of a walk into the village, but not undoable. The lanes to the cottage are narrow, but we never had any issues and there are plenty of passing places. The cottage itself is lovely. Everything is there you could need, and even some little extra touches you wouldn't normally get (I'll not say what, it would spoil it). The kitchen is a good size and very well equipped, the lounge is comfortable and functional. Upstairs is really big with plenty of space. I know it's a 2 person cottage, but you could easily fit a fold out bed in as well and still have loads of room. The bed is lovely and comfy. One tip, if you're not an early bird close the blinds at night or you'll be woken by the sunlight streaming in at 5 in the morning. Bathroom is a good size too. The shower isn't high pressure, but does the job and has lots of room. We stay somewhere different each time we visit The Lakes, but would definitely come back here.

App.goo.gl/fS5JhDgSidFfeSYz9 Please zoom in on pictures to see how dirty this cabin was. Dear Sykes customer service, We have just had a week's stay at oakwood Lodge white cross bay. 1st I would like to say, the Lodge was not of a very good standard. The cost of the Lodge £1,100.00 and for this cost I would expect a higher standard. Cheap uncomfortable imitation leather sofas. Scruffy chipped dining table. Double bed not king-size you could feel the springs through the cheap mattress. Cracked loose tiles bathroom floor. Rusty radiators. Decking area not cleaned for months. Decking furniture green with mildew stained clothes. Windows that would not open, patio doors locked not to be opened. Glass broken on wardrobe door with sticker on. Worn flooring, And very dirty. Very poor-quality Pictures attached. Please forward to the relevant department. I'll wait for your response. Mrs and Mrs A Lea
