What our customers say about their holidays
Ruth - Verified booking
To begin, this property of fantastic and a great place to visit with a group of people for a special celebration as we did.
The views are stunning, the location is perfectly picturesque and the house is everything you could want or need. Itâs clean, quiet, luxurious, warm and very spacious. Thereâs lots of parking, beautiful grounds and access to gorgeous walks and countryside from the door. Second fridge (great size and very cold) and extra food prep space in the utility room is excellent when catering for a big group. Hot tub is wonderful and such a treat. We would not have hesitated to book again immediately and give it 5 stars (with only a slight recommendation to provide more firewood and kindling given that the fireplaces are such an attractive feature). However⦠upon arrival we found a note saying that the dishwasher was broken and beyond repair. We had plans for extravagant dinners, breakfasts and indulgent cuisine so this was a nightmare discovery. Apparently a new one had been ordered that day and would not arrive until after our stay! With a party of 12 there was so much washing up. It felt like a full time job and took the shine off the place. There were constant grumbles from members of the party about how inconvenient it was. I feel sad to have to concentrate on a negative when everything else was so superb but it did have a significant impact on our stay. We felt it was a shame that there was only one dishwasher given the size of the place and had one gone down at least there would have been a back up. Maybe the owners will consider this for the future as there is plenty of space in the utility for a dishwasher.

"Eating out in St Ives was excellent.
We fully recommend: Porthmeor Cafe - Good situation, excellent staff & fantastic food. The tapas were great, the monkfish in batter was the best fish in batter I've ever had. Porthminster Beach Cafe - Great for a full meal, more of a restaurant. Closest St Ives restaurant to Carbis Bay - also close to the station. Once again, great location, staff & food. Sea Food Cafe in Fore Street - No view, but good quality. In Penzance - Mackerel Sky Cafe is fantastic. I've only just realised that it's no 1 on trip advisor, we found it by chance as it's just round the corner from the Exchange Art Gallery - part of the 'Art Pass'. Exchange & Newlyn Art Gallery are dreadful; Leach Pottery is interesting; Barbara Hepworth museum OK, but Sculpture Garden great; Tate was closed when we were in town (imminent Royal visit); Penlee House Gallery & museum was the best of the lot & well worth a visit. Train - very useful & what can you say at just £1 to get into St Ives. Hourly schedule can be a bit of a pain. Walk to St Ives very enjoyable. Walk beyond St Ives really good. Coast walk the other way from Carbis Bay is great to start with, but loses interest as you approach Lelant. Zennor worth a visit. Cafe by car park very good. We really enjoyed our holiday -thanks. !" We visited Shore Hall for a family celebration and all had a ball.
Thanks to Lyn and Paul for all their thoughtful touches and help both before and during our stay, they certainly are fantastic hosts. The property did not disappoint, our grandchildren particularly enjoyed the games room which was child friendly and exceptionally well equipped for all ages. Having two very comfortable TV lounges allowed our multi generational family to relax in style. The kitchen had everything you need catering for our 8 adults and 4 children and everyone enjoyed dining in the amazing period dining room with fantastic views. The 6 bedrooms were all very comfortable, well designed and allowed for different configurations for sleeping. The position of the 2 main bathrooms enabled the family to share without inconvenience. The pressure in the en-suite shower room was disappointing but adequate. Without doubt the highlight for our party was the hot tub even in the rain! Although the weather did not allow us to utilise the lovely outdoor space and facilities we could see the potential for fun and relaxation outside. The King William pub a short walk away provided excellent hospitality and a varied menu. To conclude Shore Hall provides an eclectic mix of old and new which combines beautifully. We hope to return in the future.

Having stayed at various Compass point apartments over the years we prefer staying in the penthouse apartments for the views.
Laurellie certainly didnât disappoint, the reclining armchairs in the conservatory were an added bonus ,so relaxing! Weather was mostly dry but very cold wind so didnât get to sit outside and enjoy the table and chairs . The only downside were the beds. The mattress on the double bed needs replacing asap ,itâs so uncomfortable you could feel the buttons in your back. We didnât have one good nightâs sleep! Our teenage sons kept stubbing their toes on the single beds ,perhaps a divan base with storage may be a kinder/better option as the child mdf bed frames petrudes all around the mattress . For the inflated price we had to pay for this years stay (had to move our original date from October previous year) I would not book this apartment again. We always stay at Compass point at Easter so are very aware of the price charged! I also noticed thatâs it noticeably cheaper to book this Laurellie for Easter next year than this year!!! This year £1182 next year £984.

This is an excellent holiday accommodation and base for exploring Keswick/the Northern Lakes.
The bathrooms, kitchen etc. are great and it is clear from the documents the owners have gone to trouble to make a 'home from home' which our family appreciated. We feel sorry for the owners about the access track which we were aware of from previous reviews and the details in the cottage make clear they and neighbours have attempted to address. The length and unmade nature weren't an issue for us, but halfway down is a short stretch where wheel ruts are so severe it is almost impossible not to hit something with the underside of a normal saloon car - this should really go on the listing as it could be an issue for some visitors with lower-set cars for example. 4x4s/SUVs etc. should be fine and this is useful for those booking to know. In addition, it is worth noting that you need to cross through and out of a communal hallway from the parking spaces to get to the cottage - which may make for minor difficulty for some carrying bags and/or walking gear.
