What our customers say about their holidays
Susanne - Verified booking
We were 4 adults, 2 of them over 80/ 90 (+ 2 dogs) staying for 12 days in May.
We liked Whitstable, its quirky high street with surprising range of shops, pubs/ restaurants etc, laid back and slightly green/ alternative vibe. Local walks to Prospect Fields or beach and shops convenient. Foxes + cubs on golf course, herring gulls nesting on roof and plenty of bird song- all good. Clifton Road was narrow and rough, parking challenging at times but we always found somewhere within walking distance. At first glance Newden Cottage impressed with decent amount of space and light, 2 cleverly designed bathrooms with good easy- access showers, cupboard with washing machine in the downstairs one, both wash basins too tiny. Nice looking kitchen with double doors to garden, big dining table, 3 decent bedrooms. Loads of clean towels but no spare bedding. Shampoo and hand wash/ shower gel provided but toilet paper lasted only a few days. My elderly parents managed the stairs ok but struggled with the heavy sash windows. Storage space eg for shoes would have been welcome, as would be a larger door mat behind the entrance door. Had we not been lucky with weather keeping floors etc dry + clean would have been tricky. There's a step along the upstairs corridor to bathroom which would benefit from a safety light at night. A few convenient night lights were found elsewhere. A welcome hamper was a nice touch, as was a box of dog things. Small enclosed garden gets some sunshine all day. Decking with peeling paint and outside furniture needed a clean, particularly the cushions which were damp and dirty in a box outside, possibly untouched since last year. Fake turf... Useful washing line. Clean inside on the whole, although dust and dirt here and there, eg in kitchen drawers, windows + -frames, shower drain. The outside table wobbled and a broken- off piece was on floor. The kitchen was beautiful but with limited worktop and drainage space. The owner kindly provided more crockery after I mentioned that we struggled a bit despite running dishwasher every day. The only (non- stick) frying pan was scratched and either very dirty or corroded- owner provided replacement. We avoided other also scratched smaller non- stick pans and used a brand new huge stainless steel pot. Unlike previous reviewers we didn't find kitchen equipment extensive. We did appreciate being able to bring 2 dogs- we asked, obviously. We booked relatively late, needing somewhere suitable for elderly parents and 2 dogs, based on positive reviews and careful study of available info. It's not a cheap area anyway but all in all, in our opinion, it was too expensive for what it is. Sorry.

We have just returned from spending our family Christmas at Rectory Cottage.
When we arrived, the cottage was lovely and warm and tastefully decorated to welcome us all. The cottage definitely has a Wow factor. Everything, both inside and out has been finished on a very high standard. No expense has been spared. A lot of thought has gone into it. It felt very homely and comfortable. Having the lounge, and kitchen diner on the first floor was a brilliant move, as it gave you access to the stunning views. There is everything you could possibly want inside the kitchen. Lots of crockery, cutlery, glasses, and dishes and pans of all sizes. There were six adults and three youngsters aged 15, 12 and 8 yrs of age, The pool was well used, as was the hot tub.. Always warm and inviting. The water in both the pool and the hot tub were checked daily, even Christmas day by the friendly owner, Stuart Jones. Sitting in the Hot Tub and admiring the beautiful views was just wonderful. Made even more special by celebrating Christmas with a glass of champagne, in the hot tub! We went into Newtown to the cinema and watched the new Mary Poppins film, and took a trip to the Elan valley dams on Boxing Day. Newtown has two good supermarkets, Tesco and Morrisons, and the local shops are varied, just about everything you should need. . I would recommend anyone to go and enjoy this cottage and its hospitality as much as we all did.

I booked this property as a celebration of my 70th birthday.
It was an opportunity for my children and grandchildren to spend precious time with me, my husband and each other. Stuart is a perfect host and a very special person. He has carefully built a wonderful property in which we have been privileged to build family memories which we will treasure always. The views from all sides of the cottage are stunning and, even in February, we managed some walks, although appropriate footwear is essential. The site feels very safe and this allowed us to relax and enjoy the break from work and school. The facilities on the site were enjoyed by all members of our party. We played every day in the games room and swimming pool - much appreciated by the children in particular. The parents spent time in the hot-tub- the spectacular views were an added bonus. The Wi-Fi also meant that those family members who could not afford a complete weekâs break werenât excluded. The cottage was spacious and exceptionally well-equipped. There was ample equipment to cook and serve family meals together, an experience which we all value. The dishwashers also aided the inevitable cleaning-up! We hope that we can return in the future and other parties have as great a holiday as we have had. Thank you Stuart.

Despite Storms Dudly, Eunice & Franklin we all managed to arrive safely.
First impressions are always important and we could not fault the appearance, cleanliness and layout of Old Rectory Cottage. Pretty well everything is provided and previous renters had left behind useful bits and pieces. The quality of the bed linen, towels and tea towels is of a high standard. We were a party of 8 adults and 6 children and found the accomodation spacious. The Cottage has kitchen and lounges upstairs and bedrooms downstairs. Hence you can hear the young ones running about having got upo earlier than the rest of us. The swimming pool and hot tub were a blessing bearing in mind our first two and a half days we were under the cosh opf the storms so unable to leave the cottage. Needless to say having exclusive use makes life a lot easier when you have youngsters desperate to burn off some energy. There's everything you need in Newtown in respect of shops and major supermarkets. We had a Tesco delivery but others deliver as well. Well done to Stuart Jones and his team for making our stay memorable. If you book you will not be disappointed but get in quick it's very popular.

Beautiful cottage, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
Well decorated and the upside down nature of the property means that you can enjoy the views at all times. There were eight of us and so it felt very spacious. Having two kitchens and living rooms meant that there was plenty of room for everyone - and with a TV in both living rooms and in every bedroom there was no arguing over what to watch in the evenings and a good WiFi signal also kept our teenagers happy. The pool is lovely and clean - and warm too! It was a great treat having it all to ourselves - having an indoor pool means you can enjoy it regardless of the weather. The hot tub is a generous size and is cleaned regularly, we made use of it every day. The large gardens are very well kept and a pleasure to walk around. The property is within easy reach of Newtown, which is very handy for popping to Tesco or Morrison's for groceries and the tiny cinema there is also a treat. We had a wonderful time and fully intend to return. Many thanks to Stuart and his team for a lovely family holiday with many happy memories!
