What our customers say about their holidays

So this is definitely not a 1 bedroom apartment!
It is a studio apartment with a 3 foot wide Small Double Bed! Myself and my husband have used Sykes cottages previously and never been disappointed but unfortunately on this occasion we were. First the issue with the tiny bed.im only small ( size 10) my husband is not fat and average height build etc but we Really struggled with the tiny bed which only just it in the area partitioned off which was in my mind not a bedroom as only a partition wall which didnât actually go to the ceiling and no door so you were basically sleeping in the lounge/ kitchen! We unfortunately had to take turns sleeping on the sofa so at least one of us got some sleep and thankfully the sofa is a decent size but definitely not meant to be slept on but we had no option. When we arrived I realised this is actually a converted garage ,which is fine but the dimensions are very tight and itâs rather gloomy ( depressing but we wanted to make the most of our holiday and payed double what we have in previous cottages ( pre Covid) so couldnât afford not to try make it work. I entered the apartment and saw they had only left us 1 hand towel n 1 bath towel each ( which only just fit round my body and looked more like a hand towel next to my husband) so decided to call the owners to request a couple of bath sheets as 7 days with those would be another Issue! That was sorted immediately by the owner thankfully. Just a couple of other small things which niggled me was they hadnât provided any wash liquid,no tea or coffee ,only 1 half used loo roll. The other cottages we have stayed at have always left a small amount of tea n coffee and a little food welcome pack like cookies ,cheap bottle of wine n dog biscuits etc so we we shocked that the apartment was so basic. There are some small things which we think could improve your stay like this and things like the tea n coffee cups were so tiny as were the drinking glasses, they didnât have a cheese grater but loads of pans and other cooking utensils I didnât think were useful in a holiday apartment. This apartment was in a good location and we would return to Bowness but would definitely Not return to this Studio apartment which should only be let out to single guests in the future, ideally with a small welcome pack with the basic provisions as we payed approximately £850 to stay in a garage n sleep on a sofa!! Very Disappointed â¹ï¸

I couldnt fault the apartment at all, it was beautiful, very modern and spotless.
The shower is amazing. It has everything you would need, including, lovely thick fluffy towels, nespresso, washing machine&dryer(even some washing pods), ironing board &iron, dishwasher(although i never use them) hoover, every cleaning product you'd need, loo roll, hand wash, tea towels etc. I had taken a lot of these but came home with them. Lovely little touch of bottles of water,biscuits,teas/coffee,pods were very much appreciated, thank you. Gorgeous surroundings out front, patio area, grass with benches in front of the lovely river Leven.Amazing views from the living room window. lovely pubs 5 mins walk, The Swan & The Huntsman, lovely nice food in both and so friendly, Great position to drive anywhere in the Lakes. Nearest shops 10 mins to Ulverston,Booths is a lovely supermarket, fab pet shop with such friendly staff willing to give you advice on where to visit. The only thing we had abit of an issue with was the people in the apartment above us. We could hear every step they made, Im not sure if they wer exceptionally heavy footed buyt it soundeed like sosmeone was running a marathon in gthe style of an elephant . I did bring this to their attention in the nicest possible way, but was met with a lack of understanding and rudeness. I know you will hear each other and thats fine but they took the mickey. Hopefully this was just this family. Other than that blip we had an amazing time and would highly recommend Lakeside Hideaway.

Well kept and equipped compact studio apartment that is ideally located.
Unfortunately we hadnât seen comments on the bed size and reluctantly left after three days due to uncomfortable small double bed that is wedged up to a wardrobe in partition area of accommodation (appears to previously started life as the garage hence compact bedroom) in addition the quilt could do with going up a size. Very disappointed with owner as sent a pleasant message explaining weâd left on the Tuesday morning and this early departure would give them extra days to service apartment in preparation of new clients rather than short turnaround on the Saturday to date no response. This issue appears to be only negative recurring comment and either replacement sofa bed in lounge area or moving partition wall forward to allow larger bed would resolve this problem. Itâs sad that our polite message explaining our decision didnât deserve any response.

Second visit to this cottage and once again it did not disappoint.
The beds are super comfy, the bathroom is spacious with a great shower and the living/kitchen/ dining area has everything you would need. The furnishings are good quality and comfortable and have been updated since the photos on the listing were taken along with new flooring. Very practical for muddy boots and paws. The location with direct access to the river is perfect and if you are a paddle boarder or canoeist serve as your own launch site. There is some good outside space (not enclosed) with appropriate furniture if you get the weather and even a bench on the riverside. Great base for the Western Lakes area and Grizedale Forrest with some good walks direct from the property. The owners obviously look after the property very well. Loved our stay and will return.

Lovely cottage perfect for our needs by the river with access to 2 pubs.
Unsure if the heating has been checked after winter because there was a damp smell when we arrived and noticed air fresheners.around as if the heating had been turned off and just put on? Carried on though but noticed it was freezing on the second morning when we got up and the heating was off and was rung later in the day to say heaters were being brought as there was a problem with the heating. I have to say a bit disappointed for the amount we have paid. Also got the window cleaner at breakfast just as we were sitting down i had had a shower but was not dressed, cleaning the windows. I understand they need to be done but later in the day would have been good. Apart from that lovely situation. met the swans in the morning which was lovely.
