Guests say

5 Railway Terrace in Buxton offers a comfortable stay with a well-equipped kitchen and clean premises. Despite some issues with bed comfort and a wobbly bannister, the property is praised for its presentation and quiet, safe location. The proximity to the train station is noted without disturbance, and parking is ample. Some maintenance issues were promptly addressed.

The property is described as clean, with no negative comments on cleanliness. Towels were left in the tumble dryer, but this seems an isolated incident rather than a trend.

The location is appreciated for being quiet and safe, with plenty of parking. However, one review mentioned light pollution from nearby railway lights.

Comfort received mixed reviews. While the property was described as comfortable overall, there were significant complaints about bed quality, which suggests that comfort could be improved.

Facilities are generally well-received, especially the kitchen. However, there were issues with a TV and concerns about the safety of the bathroom radiator placement and the sturdiness of the bannister.

There is no mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews provided, so it is not possible to assess this category.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.

The house was clean and warm and as the details said it certainly was colourful, but I have not slept on such an uncomfortable bed for many years. When I sat on the mattress I could feel the slats, it flattend so much and when my husband got into bed I thought the whole bed was going to collapse. He slept in the other room after the first night. That bed was not better as it was the cheapest type of bed available. Metal frame with extra legs in the middle. We had intended other family members to join us but after that first night we did not want them to come. The third bedroom in the attic was not used but I would not have felt happy having someone stay in that room as the bannister felt really wobbley. My husband nearly burnt himself on the radiator/towel rail in the bathroom as it was circular and placed very close to the shower cubicle door. The picture showed proper curtains on the bedroom window but there was only a gauze curtain and the lights from the railway at the end of the garden shone straight into the room. I contacted Sykes and expalined the issues. The owner was contacted about all of the worries and I was told they had suggested that I check the slats on the bed as they might have been moved by the previous occupant- we looked at the slats and they were screwed down! I was also told that the mattress was brand new - well it certainly looked clean but was not good quality and so was uncomfortable. I did tell Sykes that we were leaving early. I could not phone Sykes again as I had no phone coverage at the house. There were towels left in the tumble dryer which was still on when we arrived at 7pm. They were not dry so we turned it on again and folded them once dry and left on the side. I might expect to do that at a friend's house that I was borrowing but not when I was paying quite a bit for renting a house. Would not stay here again.

Everything was nice and clean and well accessible. At first we had a bit of a problem with the TV but that got sorted as soon as we mentioned it. The location is quiet and safe and even though the train station is nearby we didn't hear anything. Parking is plenty available. Thanks for having us. It was really pleasant!
