Whitstable is steeped in coastal heritage and still maintains a working harbour and Oyster beds blanketing the bay. Accordingly, Whitstable is celebrated for its annual Oyster Festival. Walk along the coastline, past the colourful beach huts at Tankerton to Herne Bay (5 miles) or along the beach in the opposite direction to Seasalter. Bring your bikes to cycle the Crab and Winkle Way, and to venture further afield, hop on the train (station within easy walking distance of the house) for a day trip to Canterbury and explore the beautiful medieval cathedral city.
