  The cottage was damp and cold when we arrived so we eventually asked the hosts to put the central heating on, they did straight away.

  Very noisy from the joining cottages, you can hear everything. This was advertised as pet friendly so we chose on that basis. After arriving and being in the cottage for 5 minutes the host asked me to keep the dog from jumping up at the window to look out as this could damage the sills and they wont have time to fix anything before the next visitors come in. The dog was just looking at the chickens running about. Also told me to keep the dog off the furniture and do not let it upstairs and asked where does the dog sleep etc This made us really uncomfortable from the minute we arrived and felt we were being watched throughout. This is NOT pet friendly. A very limited kitchen, they leave those tea bags and coffees that you get in a cheap BB but no milk. This was very expensive and does not reflect the cottage, the price should be halved. We will use Sykes again but will not return and will not recommend this cottage although the location is great.   A lot to recommend this property: so very peaceful, views outstanding, feel like you have the river all to yourself, so much wildlife, dark skies at night, house much better than in photos and (spacious and very comfortable), amazing walks on the doorstep, ten minute drive to shops, supermarket, cafes and pubs. Not many amazing restaurants or shops in the area, but plenty of nice cafes (Lakeside Cafe Llandidrod Wells, Cafe Cwtch in Builth). For days out we went to Haye-on-Wye (vintage, antiques, bookshops, good eateries), climbed Pen Y Fan, sunned ourselves in Aberystwyth (amazing choice of restaurants and lots to do) and paddle boarding in Llandidrod. The Zip World climbing tower was great for our teenagers.

  The property was essentially perfect in every way. Location, peace and quiet, quality, facilities all outstanding. The view from the property was worth every penny if the cost. Only small gripe: We had a few equipment pieces missing, eg a whisk, the kettle was only big enough for 2 cups of tea (7 of us in the property!), no bin bags, no linen bags as per the departure procedures, snooker table had cues but most had no tips, no fans (very hot week!), WiFi was poor (not that I was bother but my teenagers were upset they couldn’t watch Netflix!). Have used many other cottage companies before but on this experience will consider Original Cottages for our next bookings. Wish could have stayed in this one forever :-)

  A very rural retreat. A very comfortable property with stunning views. Watch the heron on the river and the red kites in the sky, the cows and sheep in the surrounding pastures. The only noises are from the animals and the occasional plane, helicopter or RAF jet. The property has pretty much everything you need but as we have just had extraordinarily hot weather this last week we were glad we had taken a couple of fans as there were none available. Would recommend this property for those wanting a very peaceful hideaway but with quaint villages nearby and other attractions.

  The property is set in beautiful surroundings and is an ideal retreat from the rest of life, and for walking and bird-watching. This is a lovely property set in magical surroundings - it is exactly as advertised, don't expect luxury, but the basicness of the property goes with the 'get away from it all feeling' you get the second you arrive. So liberating to have no internet or TV and minimal phone signal. The perfect place to walk from, to read in, to write in, to practice yoga in, to think. My dog and I will definitely return.
