What our customers say about their holidays
Margaret - Verified booking
This was a good, modern property with a lovely view across the bay and close access to the beach.
There was ample parking for two cars and was situated on a private road. It was clean, well furnished and had all the facilities needed for a great holiday, including the hot tub which could be hired at an extra cost. Our boys loved it. The welcome hamper was great and exceeded expectations. The only addition we would suggest to the facilities is that the owner provides cutlery suitable for younger children as our two found it difficult to handle the large cutlery provided and had to eat meals using a spoon! We particularly liked the idea of a report booklet so that any problems could be remedied quickly. Whilst we were there, we had problems with the DVD players not working. This was remedied promptly the next day. Thank you for the quick action. Every room in the house had a TV with DVD player attached to, I think, 3 of them. Whilst they were an asset for rainy days and allowed for different family choices of viewing, we felt that one in every room was rather over the top. Having stayed in this area of Cornwall for a good many years, we'd recommend Hagar Vor for a really good holiday.

The property is lovely with plenty of space for the three of us to enjoy.
The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of storage available. We would have preferred a larger parasol on the balcony but in fairness we could have sat in the shady areas of the vast garden. Unfortunately, the spiders behind one of the beds unnerved my sister and the few others in the house were quickly moved out - inevitable in the countryside but some appeared to be well settled. The front door was stuck at one point so we were unable to gain access to the property but fortunately the caretaker turned up at the same time to help resolve the issue even though he lives only ten minutes away. He obviously has ESP! The access to the property is okay for larger cars but not suitable for nervous drivers. We mostly coped well with the stairs but those by the front door inside where they are very slim nearly caught us out a couple of times. The weather was wonderful throughout our stay which was an added bonus. Thank you so much for providing your house for us to stay in. Pam

The cottage is in a great location for exploring Swaledale.
Carol the host was very friendly and informative. Although we couldnât let our dog off the lead in the garden as it wasnât enclosed and it was lambing season this didnât matter as all the walks we picked around the area had plenty of open fields for our Cocker Spaniel to let of some steam. The bed was extremely comfortable and the cottage had everything needed to make our 7 day stay very enjoyable. Coming back to the cottage after full days walking and putting on the log burner was so homely but to wake up every morning to the beautiful view of Swaledale we really didnât want our 7 day stay to end. We only had a drink in the local pub but the staff seamed friendly. The Dales Bike Centre just through Reeth do a lovely coffee and cake. We walked from Keld to Tan Hill and highly recommend the warm welcome and good food here. In a nutshell a great holiday.

We absolutley loved the cottage as soon as we saw the pictures on your Syke's websits.
...when we arrived we weren't dissapointed the quirky cottage was perfect for what we needed...with a handy pub a walk up the drive. ..the owners were lovey and helpful with directions etc.....the most fabulous views from the double bedroom are second to none. ...it was just perfick.....the shower is noisy as another reviewer said, and the bathroom suffers from not having an outside window...but that is what you get from a cottage that wasn't built to house a bathroom in the 1700's..it didn't harm our holiday.....the fact that you can walk straight to the river from the house without having to go on the roads is wonderful, after a day sight seeing and walking the dales you can still take an evening walk down and along the river.second sykes cottage we have rented this year..and I'm sure we will be using your dog friendly cottages again.

We've been going here since 2016 and this visit and was very disappointing.
Two bedrooms had awful damp, one worse than the other, and unusable. The balcony has been altered and the tiled flooring removed and replaced with fibreglass. This got very hot in the sun and burned our feet when walking on it! That never happened with the tiles. The ground floor kitchen has a terrible smell of heating oil still, not as bad a previous visit but still very noticeable. I'm a recovering cancer patient and the friend with me has a few health issues. Had we been made aware of the damp issues before going we would have asked for a refund and not gone. It's such a shame to see the deterioration in the property and I hope that they can get it back to the comfy welcoming property it used to be.
