What our customers say about their holidays

This was our second stay at Hollytree cottage, we stayed in Autumn last year for a week between lockdowns and loved it, so this time booked for 2.
The garden and location with fields all around and the tree line of Delamere Forest in the distance is so lovely, we sat out round the fire pit a fair bit enjoying it, despite it being November. Inside is a lovely mix of old and new, with a lovely log burning duel side fireplace for extra cosines, the kitchen is well stocked and I even baked cookies whilst there, we slept well in the beds, which is good because we all mostly like fairly firm memory foam mattresses and theses are probably more middle of the road. We enjoyed the big deep bath and found everything nice and clean. Delamere forest is a 2 min drive round the corner which is great for walks, and the Hollies farm shop about 10 mins away is always a must, especially in the run up to Christmas. We spent a lot of our time chilling having family time in the cottage, it is so peaceful there and with a piano and second big table in the dining room to play games round, itâs a perfect place to get away from it all and spend quality time together. We did have a power outage on our last night due to a fuse box problem but the lady from the cleaning company who look after the property was really lovely and got on to it very quickly and someone came out to fix straight away. Iâm afraid Iâve forgotten the ladies name from the cleaning company but she was really nice and always got back to me very quickly, once I called the number in the cottage book, donât call the one Sykes gives you itâs not correct. The cottage is on a narrow single road and at times in the year the vegetation can hang over a bit but we have a big car and weâre fine, itâs nearer to the end of the road if you go left out of the drive towards the east and Delamere, rather than going right which is longer to get to the main road, we never had to pass another car the whole time we were there though. If I had to pick something to improve I would say it would be good to offer a few memory foam Pillows too, as many people use those now and Iâve notice a few places starting to have them or have them in a cupboard if needed. The only disappointment was that the trampoline had gone this year and the big garden table and chairs, which would have been handy as we sat out and had a few BBQâs, there is a smaller table and chairs and a bench seat which we managed on. We had a lovely time here and will probably be back again at some point and would definitely recommend.

Modestly priced and well located for outdoor pursuits.
Outside seating was comfortable and it had a nice aspect for morning sun. Dog-wise, it seemed very secure, being fenced all the way around. Plenty of secure, off-road parking. Bathroom, shower and bath were good when the hot water was working. And the towels were of a heavy weight and good quality. The beds were comfortable. However, some things need addressing: ACCURACY OF LISTING: I couldnât see a lake from the garden, the garage was locked so there was no bike storage as described, the view from the patio doors was of a red brick outhouse and the line about alfresco dining with pretty lake views as your backdrop is just plain mis-selling. CLEANLINESS: It looked and felt clean on arrival. However, the bathroom bin, with no bin liner in it, hadnât been emptied and contained previous occupantâs rubbish, including waste from feminine sanitary products. A smell from the kitchen cupboard under the stairs when investigated revealed a filthy and wet cleaning mop. The freezer drawers contained split bags of ice and split bags of frozen veg and ice lollies from a previous occupant. The tiny vacuum was over-full and filthy. There was no simple dust-pan and brush. Nor hot ash box/bucket for waste from the wood burner. COMFORT: Beds had not been set up as requested (twin rather than double). The house felt very cool at all times. Drying anything wet or damp was a challenge. FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE: Towels had been laundered, rolled nicely and placed on the beds, but we discovered one was still wet and the other three were still damp. Hot water run out several times. Reporting it, we did get a speedy response and the next day it was better. Sadly, the day after, on our leaving day, the showers once again were cooler. The only information in the welcome folder relating to the property was the wi-fi, which did work well. There were no instruction manuals for any of the equipment or white goods. For someone not familiar with the Hive system, attempting to operate the heating/hot water would have been impossible. The contact numbers (including emergency) were for the cleaner/housekeeping company with a request to call during business hours. The air-source heat pump heating system was completely ineffectual, and we had to resort to the electric-oil filled radiators provided. Personally, a little more information about the heating, hot-water and change over expectations would have been useful.

Wow We go away every christmas.
This is the first property that everybody wants to return to. It was wonderful, so much thought, and attention to detail. Set on a private road, a large garden, with ample parking Overlooking fields, very few houses. Isolated, peaceful bliss As we walked in, a beautiful real christmas tree, decorated, with lights twinkling And gorgeous cake, wine and biscuits, left for us. What a great way to be greeted. The property itself is stunning. A mix of contemporary and character. A stunning modern kitchen, with a fridge and freezer big enough for anything you bring. Every type of cup or glass or plate you can think of (the hidden cutlery drawer was under the smeg kettle and toaster- to save you reading the handout) The utility room and porch, so handy for coats and muddy boots. And perfect for hiding all the christmas presents! Lots of books and games, and the dining room had drawers of everything and anything you can think of. A lovely real fire, two fronted, for the dining room and living room The living room was our favourite. Room for people to be watching tv, playing the piano, opening presents, or playing with toys. What a great space. All the bedrooms were well sized, beds comfy (creaky floorboards add to the character) a fabulous family bathroom, and great shower (we never used the bath) We went out for great meals to nearbye places (book in advance) Chester zoo, christmas eve at cheshire oaks, lovely walks What a perfect christmas Minor flaws. Not enough firewood for a week. Which meant we had to go out to buy some on a day we didnt want to drive anywhere The downstairs bathroom needs upgrading. With adults and teenagers all wanting to use, the one upstairs shower isnt enough We would have loved to stay again this christmas, but more people are joining us, so wouldnât fit in. We will certainly look at staying again. Thank you so much

Access to the property was very easy without any problems as was unloading since the drive and the front door were very close.
The photographs and description were accurate and it was exceptionally clean and tidy. The owner lives in the village and she dropped by a few hours after we had gained entry to check that all was as it should have been. She also explained how to switch on the heating if it was required. We found the kitchen was well equipped for our needs and the garden set up would have been wonderful if the weather had not been so wet. The beds were comfortable and the shower worked well with plenty of hot water whenever we needed it. The heating worked well for the two evenings when it was colder than expected for the time of year. The kitchen diner/sitting room is very spacious and comfortable as was the smaller sitting room at the front of the house. TV reception was good and both the televisions have a range of apps for streaming depending on your subscriptions. The wifi worked very well in all areas of the house. Rainbows end is close to the centre of the village which has a small general shop that is open in the evenings and opposite is a public house (0.5 miles walk) that serves good local beer, food and non-alcoholic drinks. In addition there is a small coffee shop but it is closed on Monday & Tuesday. There is a second public house based on the nearby Shropshire Union canal that also offers accommodation and food (0.5 miles walk along the towpath). The nearest supermarket (&petrol) is 1.5 miles away just past the local Premier Inn ( called the Chester Central south east Premier Inn hotel). All in all a great let and since we have family nearby we hope to be returning at some stage.

Holly cottage is a lovely home from home cottage.
The mix of old and new is done really well, the old bits have that truly old quirky Beamed and wonky floor feel , and the new bits are bright and modern with big widows all round to take in the views of the gardens and surrounding maize fields. The main bathroom was lovely and the roll top bath really comfy, we took loads of spa stuff with us and it was the closest to being at an actual spa since covid started. Also the whole the place was very clean and comfortable. The owners were great at responding to us as We had a few questions about what the cottage had, like barbecue and hdmi port for tv as with all the covid restrictions we thought we would be at the cottage a lot and we weâre but that wasnât just cos of covid or the week of rain, it was because the cottage is so lovely and restfull to be in. On the dry days we chose to stay and enjoy the garden which is so quiet and peaceful, itâs very private and fully of mature trees and boarders with a big stretch of grass for games, thereâs loads of garden furniture and a fire pit, we had a lovely barbecue with fantastic food from hollies farm shop only 10 mins away. Thereâs big outdoor bean bags and footballs for kids and the trampoline was a big hit. Inside thereâs a lovely log fire which warms both the large but cosy sitting room And the dinning room which we used to play board games and ate at the kitchen table, the kitchen is well equipped and we were able to bake cookies and cakes. There are times of books if you like a holiday read and a 1000 piece jigsaw which is all there
