What our customers say about their holidays

Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location.
Big enough for a family of 4 plus a small dog. The washing machine and dryer were much appreciated in February, we were so muddy every day! The underfloor heating kept the cottage to a comfortable temperature and we used the log burner every night to get super-cosy and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to keep clean and tidy, plenty of storage for food and drinks. Views are OUTSTANDING. The garden was plenty big enough and safe for our little dog to mooch, I can imagine it would be glorious to sit out there in the sunshine but unfortunately we weren't blessed with the weather! Beds are so comfortable, with feather/down duvets and pillows. Towels were soft and easy to wash part-way through our stay. Plenty of sockets to charge devices, most have USB slots too so you don't need to pack the adaptors. No shaver points in the bathrooms so we had to use an adaptor to charge our toothbrush. The location is lovely, just outside the tiny village of Dalwood where the pub is a must-visit. Good location to discover the surrounding towns, although the country lanes nearby have seen better days (bring a spare tyre!). Recommend a visit to Sidmouth, it's a lovely town and most shops are open out of season. We've been a few times and stopped at the Blue Ball pub on the way home.

This property is absolutely amazing.
Do not hesitate to book as you will not be disappointed. We stayed with our black lab for 4 days and the weather was perfect. He loved the enclosed garden and adjoining field so plenty of lovely walks. Waking up in the morning with the sun shining was a real plus. The living area and bedrooms all looked out onto garden and the rolling hill where the sheep and cows were grazing. We spent many hours sitting on garden furniture just enjoying the scenery and peace and quiet. We needed a well deserved break away and that was exactly what we got. The pictures do not do the views justice. The bed was extremely comfortable with crisp white sheets etc and perfect pillows. Millie was on hand if we needed anything and was most welcoming when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for her so Thank You Millie for your kindness. Canât wait to return to this special place. Thanks again M&S and Shadow the black lab. July 2024

This was our second holiday at The Cosy Cowshed as it's a lovely place to stay.
The location is peaceful with far reaching views from the large patio and plenty of parking for our 2 cars. The property is clean, modern and well equipped. There is a good size enclosed garden for a dog to run around in, but this is not totally escape proof due to gaps in the hedge and wire fencing that doesn't go tight to the ground. There was a strong smell of drains in one of the bathrooms and its adjoining bedroom. This isn't as noticeable if the roof windows are left open all the time, but as they are self closing when it rains, it's impossible to do that. The extractor fan has been removed in that bathroom for some reason so that doesn't help. An air freshener is definitely needed! The other comment I would like to make is about the 5 bar gate. It needs adjustment as it's awkward to open and close as its heavy to lift into place. I mentioned this last year but it's still the same!

The Cosy Cowshed is a high quality holiday home in a beautiful peaceful setting with far reaching views.
It's very well equipped with everything you need for self catering including tea coffee and sugar, with milk and a bottle of local wine in the fridge! Overall it's very clean and comfortable. Our dog enjoyed the large enclosed garden. The village shop and pub are very good, and only a short walk away. We really enjoyed our stay and have already booked to come back again. Unfortunately there were a few negatives. The entrance gate needs adjustment as it's not easy to open and close. We had to clean the patio furniture, then discovered the cushions in the storage box were stained and felt damp, so we didn't use them. We also didn't use the clothes rack in one of the bedrooms, as this had lots of cobwebs and spiders. On the carpet under the rack were several dead "insects" in cocoons of web. I'm sure this was just missed by the cleaner as the rest of the property was fine.

We had a problem with the lights in the bedroom.
Electrician came when we were not there and said lights were fine. He obviously switched them on once and they worked but they were not working when we came in. It was an intermittent fault which I text back to the manager but not mended before we left. We were told that they were a dimmer switch and I had not turned it up! I am not stupid I know what a dimmer switch is and I did not have a problem with the other switches. Quite a lot of cobwebs about, loads behind the head board of our bed, obviously not cleaned for a long time. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay, the cottage is decorated to a nice standard, everything you would want in the kitchen, beds extremely comfortable and beautiful views. Would I stay again or recommend, yes I would.
