What our customers say about their holidays
Confirmed Guest - Verified booking
the whole cottage needs a thorough clean and furnishings very old and worn .When we arrived Mr Sinclair was just coming out of the cottage saying the TV wasn't working and he would be back. He did return a few minutes later and sat in the room trying to fix the TV. What a start to our holiday trying to unpack with a stranger sat there. The bathroom door wouldn't open properly, old rusty bin, light over mirror not working, heater in bathroom full of dust, old rusty tin of air fresher, shower screen on bath had black mould along the bottom. The kitchen had dirty cutlery trays and all utensils in them were very old. cupboard handle broken, dead beetle between the melamine plates, spider and web in a cup. No icebox in fridge so Mr Sinclair said to use the freezer where the dogs were kept in a separate outhouse which was disgracefully dirty. We were told not to shut the curtain in the hallway as the rail was broken. This meant when we left the bedroom to use the bathroom, we were on view up the lane. The single beds were very hard with child size quilts. furniture old, random old xmas decorations etc in draws which needed cleaning out. The carpets and flooring all needs changing as it is so old. there were dozens of flies every day due to the cottage facing the horse stables. We bought fly killer and were constantly spraying them. My partner honestly thought I was going to say " take me home" but because he had booked it for my Birthday I tried to make the best of it. We left 2 leg rest from our reclining sunchairs in the cottage shed by mistake, and after a call to them the day after our return, the daughter said she would get Mrs Sinclair to ring me. I have a friend in Ayr and though I could collect them when visiting my friend later in the year but I haven't had a call back and that was a week ago. I would have contacted you before now regarding how upsetting and disappointing our holiday accommodation was but I am just recovering from Covid and haven't been up to writing. On a positive note, we loved the areas of Rockcliffe and Kippford and would like to see other areas of Scotland. Baring in mind our bad experience at Tumbling Banks would the company give us some form of compensation for not only how upset we were but also for such poor accommodation as we would use Discover Scotland again but would suggest you think twice about using this accommodation to future clients in its present state. Kind regards, Susan Harwood

Cedar Cottage was an absolute delight to stay in.
We found the position of Cedar to be really good because you had the views of the mountains in the glen, but also the pond. We have never stayed in a self catering property that was this clean upon arrival. The bed was comfy and so was the sofa. We felt we had a good level of privacy too, despite being amongst seven other cottages. Noise was not an issue. In fact, the only noise you would hear would be the sound of a Curlew or an Oystercatcher her or an Owl. We saw many red squirrels. In fact, the most red squirrels we have ever seen. The enclosed paddock behind 3 of the lodges was an absolutely awesome addition when you have a dog. This allowed for our dog to play safely with other dogs, socialise with the dogs, at the same time whilst we relaxed. But you do also have your own section of garden that is fully enclosed and private. We felt the lodge was mostly well equipped in the kitchen. We would suggest adding a mixing bowl for those that want to bake. And a yorkshire pudding tray of course. They do provide lovely scottish made toiletries and upon arrival, you receive a really lovely welcome pack. The walk down to the falls is lovely. There is a lot to do locally but bear in mind, despite being on the A9 road, you are isolated to some degree. We arranged for a Tesco delivery on the following day and we stocked up on fuel. The owners are really friendly here and helpful and always available on hand. Places we would suggest visiting are Pattack Falls, Cairn Gorm, Green loch, Creag Meagaidh, Aberfeldy, Blair Atholl etc. Aviemore is very dog friendly. We would visit again for sure. And we would actually choose to stay in Cedar again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We had a wonderful few days staying at this lovely cottage just before Christmas to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary.
We had been keen to escape from the stress of Christmas and recharge our batteries and the appeal of a little fishermanâs cottage near the sea was hard to resist. The weather as predicted was awful but the cottage was so welcoming and warm with its log burning wood stove, lovely furnishings and decor. The bedrooms comfortably furnished with seaside themes and the beds so comfortable. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. The upstairs main bedroom and shower room has a very low sloping ceiling which it takes a bit of getting used to and I did manage to bang my head on it once so something to be aware of but you only make that mistake once and just something to be aware of. Being a thick walled cottage, we never heard any loud traffic even though we were not far from the town centre. There are also so many decent shops nearby for supplies, eg. Places to eat, coffee shops, gift shop, bakers, fishmonger, co op, hotel, fish and chip shop etc all less than 5 minute walk away and a lovely harbour and beach 15 mins walk away. The cottage can comfortably accommodate a family of 4 or 2 couples or even just one couple like us looking for some peace and quiet. We loved our stay here and would definitely like to return again in the summer. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our special anniversary and take home some lovely memories to treasure.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Airds of Kells House. The location is fantastic - perfect for exploring all that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer, as well as being surrounded by countryside views. My kids had such fun running wild in the grounds. We even saw deer on arrival (though they didn't return during our stay). The pheasants kept us all amused with their crazy running, though they were a little overwhelming for the dogs when outside (on leads). The house itself is really well equipped, with an abundance of crockery and tableware in the kitchen. We cooked the most delicious Easter roast in the rayburn. The bedrooms are also well appointed, we loved finding a torch in each for nighttime (or possible powercuts, but this didn't happen) - a nice touch. The beds and pillows are comfortable, with good quality linen and towels provided, and so much space for everyone. Additionally, the bathrooms are lovely, with plenty of hot water to go round. It's obvious the house is well loved and it is decorated to a high standard. If I had one minor comment, it would be that the rugs in the kitchen could do with non-slip backing, as we went skidding on them a few times! The only room we didn't use was the dining room (except to hide eggs for the Easter egg hunt), as the dining space in the kitchen was more than adequate for the 6 of us. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property :)

Tower Lodge is a superb cottage in glorious surroundings on the shore of Loch Awe, with views over the tree tops to the loch.
We have had a fantastic week with visits to Oban and Invarary, we have been to these places before but they never seem to lose their appeal and the fish and chips in Oban are delicious. We were very lucky with the weather which made the whole week much better. The cottage is very light and airy with a great view of the Ancient Castle Keep close by. There is lots of storage for food and clothes with extra bedding if needed. The wood burning stove in the living room was very efficient and warmed the whole house quickly in the chilly evenings, it was really cosy. The owners have conveniently placed a bird feeding station directly outside the living room window, and you can watch the wonderful variety of birds come to feed, it really was fascinating we watched them for hours and also outside on the bench and chairs provided, thr Robin's were particularly tame and almost took peanuts from your hand. There was two little voles that kept popping I and out of their home which made it even better. On our last night we had dinner at the Cruachan Inn, we had a fantastic dinner in fantastic surroundings and views and very efficient staff although they were busy took time out to chat and make the whole evening great. All in all the whole week was a great triumph inspite of the Covid restrictions , thank you Tim and Claire for the use of your fabulous cottage.
