What our customers say about their holidays

The house is lovely, spacious and unlike most houses it has everything you need.
Soaps, cleaning supplies, cling film and foil, tea towels, towels lots of cooking supplies etc were supplied which was a pleasant surprise. Lots of room for parking, big garden which isnât overlooked. We were a party of 5 and a 9 month old baby. I would say the property isnât really suitable for a baby on the move. We had to move a few things out of the lounge and into the conservatory and use the table to block off the fireplace and not use the conservatory, not really a big deal. Although the house was cleaned, they do allow dogs downstairs so inevitably there are still hairs around which stuck to the toys we had for the baby so lots of cleaning had to be done. (Comes with having a baby though!) We did bring a blanket of our own to put down but the lounge is a huge space so not everything could be covered. None of the curtains are blackout either so myself and the baby would wake early because of the light. Not an issue in winter though. The window in the silver room has a huge cobweb at the top and a dead spider but can be easily cleaned so again not a big deal. The shower head is the same size as the shower meaning you have to turn it off to wash your hair and apply soap as there is no room to get out from under the water. I would say thatâs the only downside to the property. It was lovely to have the pond and listen to the water running. All of the rooms are spacious. The Green room could benefit from a new mattress as you really feel the springs, between that and the metal frame which creaks itâs quite noisy if you toss and turn a lot in your sleep. Each room I believe had a blanket available which was nice. The washing machine and tumble dryer were larger capacity drums which was great. Iâd definitely recommend to others.

We stayed at 28 The Turnpike for 2 weeks in August this year, there were 6 of us and we absolutely loved the property!
Probably the best we've ever stayed in Cornwall over the last 30 years. It was well kept, neat, tidy with some new modern decor and had everything we needed to make a cracking stay, right down to the smallest of details. I don't agree with some of the negative comments on the reviews below/above, of course there will be personal stuff around locked away, this is someone's personal home that they have kindly let us stay in, so it's not going to be like a 5 star hotel, but that just made it feel really homely! As for being kid friendly, we think it definitely was, you can't expect the owner to make it perfect for your child, you have to be prepared to compromise and take some of the responsibly on yourself. ....Complaining about a rose bush in the garden??? ....Really?? Speaking of which, the garden was lovely, plenty big enough for kids and the dogs to play, a beautiful little pond, a great outdoor seating area, nice little utility room for the beach wear after a long day in the sand, a nice big lounge with all the tv stations on a nice big tv and comfy couches and really spacious bedrooms. The 3 bathrooms came in really handy with 6 people staying there too. Absolutely lovely neighbours too, who were always at hand to advise on things like bin days etc. We had 2 cars and a trailer and the driveway and there was plenty of space left for parking and just a few gorgeous miles walk to Cape Cornwall along the most beautiful of Cornish valleys. I can't recommend this place enough, we'll definitely be trying to book again next year.

Great cottage for exploring this corner of Cornwall with everything it has to offer from historic mines to amazing scenery and far more than we managed to see in one visit. An extended original "miner's cottage" there was a great connection to the past we wanted to investigate in the area. Great food at the local Trewellard Arms and at Geevor Mine among many other locations. For those wanting to explore the mining heritage, having three major mines practically on the doorstep, and within walking distance if you try a bit, is great and you can watch sunsets over the mine heads and stacks from the cottage. Visitors with dogs may want to be careful of the local cats who like to sun on the courtyard wall, but cat lovers will need to avoid adopting the bravest who will try to come in if you leave the back door open. Maybe not great if you have a large car, but them most roads around that part of Cornwall are better suited to small cars anyway. The road outside can get you fretting about getting in and out unless you are confident getting in and out of a fairly blind turn into a narrow road or turning the car within the shared parking area. Don't see that as an issue with the cottage though, it's the nature of Cornwall and a world which remains much unchanged since before cards existed - take the chance to live a different life for a while.

Good points: good location for visiting the local area.
Plenty of off street parking. Spacious house. Newly fitted main bathroom. Good sized kitchen with everything you need. Considering it is a dog friendly property, there was no doggy smell. Secure garden. Fairly quiet area. Not so good points: We had a 2yo toddler with us and the property wasnât really toddler friendly. We asked for a stair gate, but only a stair dog screen was provided at the bottom of the stairs which meant we had to and buy a gate for the top of the stairs. The garden area had a rose bush with large thorns. This is obviously someoneâs home as thereâs far too much personal stuff in drawers and cupboards, lots for a toddler to get into mischief with. The swings could have done with a toddle seat. The grass could have been mown - was overdue a cut and some TLC. The property itself is a little tired and could do with a refresh of decor and facilities. The bath towels provided were a little on the small side. The noise from the road could be heard at night, something double glazing would eliminate. Instead of a fish pond, a hot tub would have be a good addition to this property. Overall, it was OK.

The property on the whole was really lovely, however there are areas for improvement.
There was no welcome pack for guests informing then of emergency contacts such as doctor, pharmacy etc. No helpful advice/details on transport such as taxis/bus services, hospitality in the local town, places of interest. We had to hunt for manuals on how to use the oven - incidentally the gas hob buttons were extremely easy to turn on without realising. The dining chair covers were filthy, there were crumbs in the groove of the dining table. There were no instructions on how to use the TV. The exterior door from the conservatory to the garden kept sticking and was difficult to lock. Decided not to open it just in case we could not lock it again. We were also taken aback by the request to feed the fish and water the plants if it was really hot weather. The fish pond itself could do with cleaning and the water was quite low....felt very sorry for the fish! However, we did feel very comfortable in the house, the beds were comfy and we had a very lovely, chilled holiday in a very beautiful, friendly part of Cornwall. This would be an absolutely fabulous place with a little TLC. Thank you.
