What our customers say about their holidays

It appeared that Iona Cottage had only been open for a short time this year as there were only a few entries in the visitors book however we were delighted with the cottage, the fixtures and fittings and location.
The layout of the rooms is very good and definitely suits families and our two granddaughters loved the twin room in the eves with the on suite facilities. As we are experienced in booking this type of accommodation we woul like to offer the following constructive comments that we are sure would enhance the experience even further. First the frontage of the cottage is very attractive apart from the wooden board and gravel immediately in fron of the steps to the front door. This we believe is a potential trip hazard especially for anyone who has mobility issues. The mattress protector and fitted sheet for the double bed is too small as the kept coming away from the mattress which made sleeping a little uncomfortable and the mattress itself could be of a better quality as you could feel the springs when laying down. The washing machine is a great fixture, especially for anyone staying for more than a few days however there isn't a clothes line in the back garden so this is something that we would recommend is corrected quickly. The Red Book in the dining room needs to have more and clear information about how to operate the White Goods and the central heating making it easier for clients to operate these safely. As the property is rural, which is great, it would help if the owners could provide, in the Red book, information regarding local facilities, such as shops, and things to see and do in the area. Finally we would congratulate the owners on the overall experience and we would recommend the cottage to family and friends. Mr & Mrs Smith, Glenrothes, Fife Finally although it's nice to have a county style rear garden that is dog friendly and saceure the garden does need urgent maintenance to make the space more usable for the stay.

I agree with previous reviews that the kitchen is too dark with the existing lighting, regardless of dimmer switches, which were turned up full.
Maybe a battery operated stick on cabinet light would be a good idea by the cooker etc. the microwave is worn and shows sign of damage resulting in condensation forming in the door, the cleaner must be aware of this. The mattress, although comfortable didnât fit the bed base and the bed base around the bed near the pillows, that you can see was filthy and dusty. The air vent in the bathroom hadnât been cleaned, I hoovered that myself. The towel rail was dusty, the towels were old and hard, and laid over the dusty rail. The kitchen cupboard door where the bin is has dropped, again obvious to the cleaner so should have been fixed. Lack of glasses - only 2 hi-ball glasses which means if you change your drink you have to keep washing up. No bleach or washing up liquid, old wash cloths and scourer (which I didnât use) as they didnât look hygienic, so I brought my own. The front door condenses on the inside resulting in all the coats getting wet that were hanging there. No dog pack left, which the owner apologised for and said that the cleaner had forgotten to leave it, however, I would have expected her to drop one in the next day. All in all, this cottage needs a bit of attention as looking a bit tired.

This is a really pretty cottage in a quiet pretty village however to be a retreat you need to be 3 things, dry, comfortable and rested.
This cottage is being let down by basic problems. The 3 single beds have 1 mattress that is adequate, I spent the first night on the sofa to try and get some sleep. The pink bedroom is very damp, all clothes hanging in the cupboards quickly smelt of damp and the bedding on the grey bed also smells of damp. The garden is very neglected, I weeded the steps to create a safe path for my husband, and there is a pond which would be dangerous if we had small children. This is such a shame because the rest of the cottage is lovely, the kitchen is well equipped. The sitting room is cozy with French windows that looked onto the garden. The locks on the French windows and the front door are very tricky and at times impossible to lock or unlock. Because of the rural nature of the cottage the Wi-Fi is very limited so I advise doing your research before you get to the cottage for places to go. We did find the most of the local pubs had better Wi-Fi if we needed to load books to kindle or look something up. If the above issues were sorted out we would have no hesitation in returning to such a lovely place. So much more to explore.

The cottage was clean and cosy and met with basic requirements The bathroom was small but had plenty of hot water agood shower and a lovely deep bath It was situated within easy access to local places of interest and a pub, chip shop and co-op We did have a bit of problem finding it as was not signed in any way but locals were able to help There is no parking inside grounds of cottage but we always managed to get a space just outside We did not find the cottage dog friendly as dog wasn't allowed up on furniture and there was no outside area for dog to go Local to the cottage there is plenty of places to walk the dog but would have been good just to let dog out first thing in morning and last thing at night It clearly shows in photos and informs you in description of the slanted roof in bedroom This however did not stop us banging our heads After a few bumps you start to pay more attention

We loved our stay at the Coach House.
It was helped by some fantastic weather. It was a great base to explore the top of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The village of Churnside is a fabulous location with stunning views. The cottage was perfect for two and the courtyard is bathed in sunshine from early morning until about 4.30pm in the summer, so we had breakfast outside every morning. The cottage had everything we needed, albeit the kitchen was a little dark. As described, the on street parking was absolutely fine and not a problem. The mini co-op was a few doors down, and the village chip shop was no more than 50 yards away. All very convenient. Our hosts were lovely and very welcoming. We would also recommend Berwick Cycles for cycle hire if you are interested! A delightful stay in a delightful cottage.
